This study conducted a comparative analysis of the undergraduate international business curriculum between Korean and German universities. Ten universities, each ranked in the top 10 by country in business and management studies as announced on the 2022 QS World University Rankings website, were selected as subjects of the survey.
This study classified the international business curriculum using six areas: functional, analytical, soft skills, social responsibility, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary subjects. The main comparison results of the international business curriculum between Korean and German universities are as follows. The average number of subjects in international business was 6.9 in Korean universities, 3.2 more than the average of 3.7 in German universities. Korean universities had the most functional subjects, and German universities had the most soft skills subjects. A total of 21 international business subjects offered only in Korean universities were found to be 12 more than the total of nine subjects offered only in German universities.
Since this study was conducted on only 10 universities each in Korea and Germany, there may be some limitations in generalizing the research results. In future research, it is necessary to analyze not only the curriculum of other majors in business administration, but also the international business curriculum of master's and doctoral courses.
