This paper analyzes < Daughters of Kim`s Pharmacy> written by Gyeong-Ri Park and considers the social meanings of their lives. The heroines of < Daughters of Kim`s Pharmacy> show the aspects of women`s changed lives in the period that the order of traditional home was destroyed. The heroines do not leave themselves to grudge or fate but they show the aspects of changed home according to the condition of changed life in the modern times of Korea. The eldest daughter, Yong-Suk becomes widowed early; however, she shows the aspect of home worshiping money. The tendency she values money above everything else is to complement her weak social position. Second daughter, Yong-Bin builds her own self-identity through education. She shows the aspect of home based on independent self-consciousness by displaying the social awakening equal with men escaping the position of traditional women. Third daughter, Yong-Ran refuses the conventional marriage, however, it was attracted by instinctive sexual pleasure rather than being based on self-consciousness, and thus, it ends up with a failed marriage. And the youngest daughter, Yong-Ok shows the aspect to obey the patriarchal system; however, she is suffered due to her hypocritical father-in-law and indifferent husband. The supplement to the suffering is to embrace Christianity. Her death symbolizes breaking of patriarchal families. The heroines of < Daughters of Kim`s Pharmacy> show various aspects of lives by dismantling the meaning of traditional home. This is the result of close interaction between construction of an individual`s identity and social factors in early modern Korea.
