Although Hangul is mainly used in Korea, it still belongs to the Chinese character culture area, so there are still many Chinese characters in the documents. In some cases, if a document that contains both Hangul and Chinese fonts does not contain Chinese characters that match Hangul fonts, it is necessary to replace them with other similar fonts. Because there are not many Chinese fonts on PC that are commonly used, there are cases where documents are not readable due to the inability to choose Chinese characters that match when Hangul and Chinese fonts are together.
If you can’t find Chinese fonts that go well with Korean fonts when you write Korean and Chinese fonts together, you have to spend a considerable amount of time and effort to develop new Chinese fonts, which is impossible for the general public, not for font specialists. There was a study on the shape characteristics of Korean fonts for the classification of fonts, and a prior study recommending similar Korean fonts at a ceremony for information on the structure of Korean fonts, and further research on matching Hangul fonts with Chinese Characters is needed to solve the problem of lack of legibility of documents due to the inability of Korean and Chinese characters to select suitable Chinese characters when writing together.
In this study, the structural information of Korean fonts was first examined based on prior research and then, in order to systematically understand the structure information of Chinese fonts, the basic Chinese characters were found in the books and the main elements of Chinese characters were extracted. A survey was conducted on how influential the characteristic elements of strokes that can determine the shape of Chinese characters are in determining Chinese characters. Based on the results of the questionnaire analysis, the characteristic values of representative characters in representative fonts were measured according to the property definition and the criteria set. Based on the information on the structure of Chinese characters, the characteristic values of Chinese characters were modelled and the matching techniques were proposed based on data analysis.
Through this study, first, we selected the elements that can distinguish and characterize the shape of Chinese character fonts and can be used in search or recommendation services based on them. Second, it is expected that the shape characteristics of Chinese character fonts can be extended by applying them to Japanese fonts that started with similar brush strokes. Third, when writing Hangul and Chinese characters together, considerable time and effort are needed to find the right font to solve the problem. Accordingly, the matching technique proposed in this study between Korean and Chinese character fonts is expected to enhance the legibility of documents by utilizing data analysis and recommending the most similar Chinese character font among the ones that do not have Chinese character fonts in the system.
