This is a case study on the effect of industrial relations(IRs) on human resource development(HRD) in Yuhan Corporation in order to explore characteristics of IRs to facilitate HRD. This study takes notes of three aspects of paths between IR and HRD: attitudes and strategies of trade unions toward HRD, employment relations, and work organizations. The results of examination indicates that the vitalized HRD in Yuhan Corporation has been based on the three aspects. Yuhan Corporation has a trusted and cooperative relationship between workers and employers based upon high level of business ethics, and it also has high level of job security and internal labor market, and human-centered human resource management. Consequently, the employer has invested pretty much in HRD, and trade unions support it actively. The work organizations in Yuhan Corporation have been affected by the feature of a pharmaceutical company. An institutional regulation (named as GMP) on the pharmaceutical companies has facilitated the rapid change of technology, strict work processes, and functional flexibility of the work organization. The characteristics of work organizations affected have created the needs for multi-skills and consequently have facilitated training & development.
