DMZ의 평화적 이용과 인권 = Peaceful Use of the Korean DMZ and Human Rights

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

“Korean Demilitarized Zone” established by the Korean Military Armistice Agreement of 1953 has now become a fountain place which could result in diverse division-stricken sufferings. That is to say, the zone afflict many kinds of mental or economic uneasiness on people residing at the DMZ and adjacent area, including security unstability, low standard of living, limits to the exercise of property rights. It is very difficult to completely abolish the DMZ in the near future. Notwithstanding the fact, it is a historical and national demand that sufferings and discomfort stemming from the DMZ, namely, military heritage of Cold War on the Korean Peninsula, should continue no longer in the 21st unification era. Peaceful use of the DMZ is a good way not only to diminish division-stricken sufferings but also to build political or military confidence between South and North Korea. It could make a contribution to promotion of such human rights and welfare as right to enjoy safety, right to enter into and exit from the DMZ, right to exercise property right existing at the DMZ, right to enjoy freedom of science and arts through the DMZ and the like. Considering this, necessity and propriety of peaceful use of the DMZ should be re-illuminated and reinforced from the perspective of enhancing fundamental human rights and welfare.
