This study was conducted to provide basic data for development of education program in highschool for skin care and suitable make-up through exploring highschool girl's behavior toward skin care and make-up and its related factors. Data were collected from 701 highschool girls from Aug 25, to Sep 30, 2003.
The result of this study are summarized as follows ;
1) According to general characteristics of the subjects, 66.2% of students belong to mixed highschool, and 33.8% belong to girls only highschoal. and 67.3% of students belong to technical school, and 27.7% belong to humanity school.
2) About health conditions, 49.9% of students answered 'very well', and about body type, 48.5% was 'middle class'. about skin conditions, 29.2% was 'oily', 22.7% was 'natural', 15.5% was 'mixed', 13.8% was 'dry skin'.
3) The most serious trouble related to skin were pimples(53.5%), and 77.3% of students has a lot of interesting about her skin and more then half of students doesn't make-up frequently. Major resource of information of make-up was books, magazines, internet, TV and radio.
4) 71.0% of students already experienced make-up. Rate of make-up in mixed highschool was higher then the other type of highschool. And it technical school students was also higher then humanity school, and 3th grade of students was higher then other grade.
55.0% of students has first make-up experience when she was middle school student and major reason was be look good.
5) About of frequency of make-up, less then 1 time in a week was highest rate, and 1 or 2 times in a week was next. The answer that make-up on special day or before meet their friend was extraordinary high. About knowledge and information of make-up, almost half of students answered 'got enough information for make-up'. And about social cognizance to make-up, 75.6% of students answered 'not bad', and 9% answered 'not good'.
6) About rate of satisfaction, about 50% of students answered 'ordinary', and it was higher in thin students. most of students who get higher frequency of make-up answered 'ordinary'.
7) About Importance of education for make-up in highschool, 74.6% of technical school students and 79.9% of 3th grade of students answered 'necessary'. The same answer was 63.5% among students who regard make-up negatively and 78.3% among students who regard make-up positively.
In conclusion, frequency of make-up is higher in technical school students.
And they also regard that education for make-up is necessary. A lot of students start their make-up when they're middle school students. And they want suitable education for skin care and make-up.
Make-up isn't object to restrict anymore to highschool girls, we should start education about skin care and make-up to prevent problems cause by wrong informations, and for they start their social life with good outlook.
