초보 어머니들의 양육 특성과 어머니됨의 변화 과정 = The Parenting Characteristics of Inexperienced Mother and the Process of Becoming a Mother

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to analyze the parenting characteristics of inexperienced mother and the process of becoming mother. The main participants of this study were four mothers and their five babies who are one year olds and younger. This research was carried out for 6 months. The data were collected by participation observation, in-depth interviews, and mothers meeting, and reflective journals.
According to the results of this study, the parenting characteristics of inexperienced mother were ‘ verbalizing a baby's features and behaviors’, ‘maintaining and strengthening of baby's behavior by praising and encouraging’, ‘explaining of the circumstance and teaching the name of objects’, ‘teaching the baby's name by calling his/her name repetitively’, and ‘teaching social relationships through by using infant-based communications and mutual designations.
The process of becoming a mother was involved with ‘coexistence of joy and anxiety’, ‘mystery and wandering about having another life in their body when they were pregnant’, ‘joy as well as pain’, ‘embarrassing and deep impression’, ‘a mother rather than a woman’, ‘changing the viewpoint of the world’, ‘ambivalent feeling about becoming a mother such as going to the heaven and the hell’, and ‘recognition of accomplishing a family’.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 1세 미만의 영아를 키우고 있는 초보 어머니들의 양육 특성을 알아보고 어머니가 되어가는 과정에서 어머니로서 느끼는 심리적 변화와 정서를 살펴보기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 5명의 영아와 4명의 초보 어머니를 참여관찰, 심층면담, 어머니들의 모임 및 저널쓰기를 통해 질적 연구를 수행하였다. 연구 결과 1세 미만의 영아를 둔 초보 어머니들은 영아의 행동과 모습을 언어화하기, 칭찬과 격려를 통해 그 행동을 계속 유지 및 강화시키기, 사물의 이름과 용도 알려주기를 통해 사물의 명칭과 특성 인식시키기, 이름과 호칭을 계속해서 불러줌으로써 자신의 고유한 이름 알려주기, 영아중심의 호칭사용과 언어적 표현을 통해 사회적 관계 인식시키기의 양육특성을 보였고 어머니 됨의 변화과정으로는 기쁨과 불안함의 공존, 내 몸에 또 다른 생명을 품고 있다는 신비로움과 경이로움, 고통이 곧 기쁨, 엄마가 되었다는 어색함과 감동, 이젠 여자가 아닌 엄마, 세상을 보는 관점의 변화, 천국과 지옥을 오가는 엄마의 길, 비로소 완성된 가족의 탄생을 느낌으로 나타났다.
