The purpose of this study is to establish long term perspective for career counseling around 21st century after analyzing and evaluating the present career counseling in relation to the occupational environment and labor market change. Extensive literatures including career counseling as well as forecasting studies regarding occupation and labor market toward twenty-first century were reviewed in this study.
Chapter 2 contained the issues of perspectives of change toward 21st century about occupational environment. The major topics were; ① rapid advances of technology, ② transition toward information and knowledge based economy, ③ increase of the aged and participations in economical activities of women, ④ changes of value about workers. Also perspectives of labor market change and new vocational abilities were presented.
Chapter 4 detected how the past research and practice about counseling contributed in the development of career counseling. Also current status and possibility of future growth of career counseling were analyzed. Chapter 4 suggested new directions of career counseling toward 21st century. In conclusion of the last chapter, some recommendations were made for the improvement of career counseling.
