Despite efforts to discuss about interaction and interactivity, defining those has been neglected. Theoretical conceptualization of the interactivity would provide a basis for studying digital interactive media and communication models. Therefore, this study aims at conceptualizing the interactivity which will be discussed in the debate of communication models.
There are similar iesearch findings about the increasing feasibilities of media selection and the media attitude of new media users or consumers. For instance, it has been experienced that the videotex systems promised news that was more timely, more thorough and more personal than printed newspapers, but the promises were hollow. This media user would play with this system for a short while and then quit.
This study deals with the interactivity of interactive media in terms of the technological perspective, as well as in terms of the information exchange. What users do with media content is more important than how content may affect users. The goal of communication is more to exchange information than to persuade users have greater control of the communication technologies.
The concept of interaction that is a root of interactive media is evolving as far as the types of media are extending. In this paper, operational definitions of interactivity that are developed and applied to empirical studies are searched and discussed, then it is insisted that the further conceptualizing processes are needed. And some guidelines for further studies on it are suggested.
