The purpose of this thesis is seeking a method for classification which is universally used in musical education to prompt effective teaching of the piano. I have investigated Suzuki's educational philosophy and suggested course of study which is at present being disseminated worldwide. I first analyzed the tunes included in volumes Iand II of Suzuki's Piano School and then continued to research volumes Ito VI arranged by composer and musical period with chart.
On the basis of the concept that the superiority and inferiority of ability is to be determined by the educated time-span, the teaching method, the quantity of practice and musical environment Suzuki suggested that parents have to carry out the five principles in order to cultivate children as a remarkable pianist.
(1) An earlier education
(2) A repetitive practice
(3) A competent teacher
(4) A better educational environment
(5) An application of good teaching method
I have analyzed Suzuki's Piano School Text Book with great interest becaus at present only Beyer, Alfred and Bastien collections are widely used in Korea. I hope that our own methodology will be developed and the practical teaching method will be researched by excellent educators for the applications of all kinds of branch in our country.
