2009 revised national curriculum was enforced in March, 2013. Accordingly, new middle school music textbooks were published. Textbooks are the main teaching materials used for education in school. Many research papers of analysis of textbook using a variety of methods and perspectives have been published. Analysis of textbook is an important activity to measure the quality of textbook. Also, it is very important to by analysis of organized and systematic textbook utilize in the teaching and learning. Analysis of revision music textbook is considered necessary because 2013 is the first course in 2009 revised national music curriculum.
This study subject is 17 kinds of music textbooks of 2009 revised national curriculum enforced in 2013. This study analyzed three-one is about the configuration and system about unit of textbook; another about the overall percentage about domain of each textbook; the last one about the expression domain. The objective of this paper consists of two things. One is whether contents are applied in the 2009 revision national curriculum. The other is what each textbook characteristic and difference are. From this, the following utilization is expected. First, it can be employed as basic data for music educator's teaching research. Second, it is helpful for preliminary music teachers to grasp contents of textbook. Third, it can be harnessed for music education researchers to develop teaching materials.
This research shows that 2009 revised national curriculum is generally reflected in textbooks. Also, changes in the area of 2009 revised national curriculum are clearly reflected in textbooks. The teaching and learning methods based on students' musical skills and interests are employed in textbooks. Details such as fonts and section icons are composed aesthetically and sensuously.
However, some problems are discovered-typographical errors, the imbalance of musical pieces of instrumental music domain, and the lack of systematic standards in choosing musical pieces. Based on them, desirable textbooks are as follows. First, textbooks should reflect various conditions of each school environment. Second, systematic standards in choosing musical pieces should be identified. Third, musical pieces for practice or performance should be confirmed considering level of each student. Fourth, more creative music activities are required. Fifth, the problems mentioned above in textbooks should be corrected and reviewed.
