도정노동요의 구성방식 연구 = A Study on composition ways of work songs in grain pounding

Work songs in grain pounding(hereinafter referred to WSGP) is a sub-genre of korean oral literature. When there was no letter for human being, people had kept folks song in their mind depending on their memory, and had naturally developed structural ways of keeping them in their mind. Since WSGP had the special feature of carrying out work and song in the field, contents of work songs had difficulty in meeting requirement for highly literary form.
Although people were restricted by time and place because they had to sing at the field while working, they got over the monotony of work songs in composing work songs by using various ways: idiomatic phrases and their application, repetition, association, theme, and etc. These ways enabled folk songs to have the effect of emphasis and lengthening, and people expressed their empathy through the theme.
Therefore, based upon these propositions this study introduced the typical composition ways of WSGP and examined what characteristics did compositions ways have according to work types of WSGP.
Used in the beginning of the song, idiomatic phrases functions to call people's attention; repetition and association play a great role in making contents longer and also are contributed to formal effect of lines which doesn't have meaningful relationship; and theme is the way used for the meaningful effect.
Work types of WSGP can be divided into mortar milling, treadmill milling, millstone milling, and grinding. Of these mortar milling was composed of a lot of idiomatic phrases and parallel adequately; treadmill milling was mainly made up with repetition and parallel. The words of grinding song is more remarkable than that of millstone milling. Since milling and grinding are systematic and tough, these composition ways may be quite good for contents of songs.
