This paper examines the change of the number of firms and laborers in manufacture from 1944 to 1949 in Korea. The results are as follows. compared to 1944, the number of firms and laborers employed in manufacture were drastically decreased in 1946. It was because of the unfavorable economic conditions.
The tendency still continued to 1948 in the number of firms. But the number of firms sharply increased in 1949. Nevertheless it was a little over the half of the firms existed in the Japanese colonial rule.
The speed of recovery in laborers employed was much faster. It began to increase from 1947, and it reached to about 82.4% of that of 1944. So the size of the firms were larger than before.
Also we can find faster in Machine and Tools. Textile and Chemical industry than the other. And in Seoul, Chungchong and Kyoungpuk province the energy of recovery was stronger than other provinces.
