브루너 전·후기 교육이론의 한 해석 : ‘서사’와 ‘범형’을 중심으로 = An Interpretation of J. S. Bruner’s Early and Later Theories of Education: Focused on Narrative and Paradigmatic Modes of Thought

국문 초록 (Abstract)

브루너의 전기 이론에서 학습은 지식의 구조를 발견하는 것으로 규정된다. 그러나 발견에 지식의 구조가 필요하다는 점에서 발견학습은 학습의 결과를 학습의 조건으로 전제한다는 난점을 가진다. 직관적 사고는 이 난점을 극복할 단서가 된다. 직관적 사고를 통해 세워진 가설을 검증하는 과정은 곧 지식의 구조를 확립하는 과정이다. 그러나 전기 이론은 직관에 필요한 소량의 지식이 어디서 비롯되는지 설명하지 못한다. 후기 브루너는 의미 만들기에 주목한다. 개인은 개별 대상을 모종의 관점에 입각하여 해석하고, 개인은 해석에 대한 재해석을 통하여 관점을 분명하게 한다. 전자와 후자에 해당하는 것은 서사와 범형으로, 양자는 실재 구성의 두 방식이다. 양자는 의미를 만들어 내고, 그 이면의 구조를 확립한다. 이 점에서 서사와 범형은 마음 형성의 두 측면이다. 서사와 범형 사이의 관련에 주목하면 브루너의 전기 이론은 교육받은 마음의 정의를, 후기 이론은 그 마음의 형성 과정을 보여주는 것으로 해석될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Bruner’s early theory regards learning as a discovering of the structure of knowledge. As the structure of knowledge is required for the discovery, discovery learning has the problem that it presupposes the result of learning as a prior condition for learning. Intuitive thinking is the key to overcoming this problem. A process to verify a hypothesis is the process to establish the structure of knowledge; however, the early theory failed to explain where the very least knowledge for an intuition comes from. Later Bruner noticed meaning making. Based on some perspective, a person interprets specific things. By re-interpreting these interpretations, the perspective becomes more clear. There are two modes of thought, narrative and paradigmatic, corresponding to the former and the latter of these processes. They are the ways of constructing reality. Each way makes meaning and establishes the structure underlying it, so they are two aspects of the shaping of mind. Focusing on the relation between narrative and paradigmatic modes of thought, on the one hand, Bruner’s early theory can be interpreted as an explanation of the educated mind, while, on the other, the later theory presents the process that shapes mind.
