This paper explores the meaning of home and maternity to African-Americans in Toni Morrison’s Home. In the novel, Frank Money, a returning veteran from Korean War loses his way, trying to survive the slavery and war trauma. Through his journey home, a positive and secure place to African-Americans, Morrison probes how to confront and remember the past without being haunted and exhausted by it and eventually achieve subjectivity. In the end, Frank and his sister Cee return to a black women community in Lotus, Georgia, where they are healed and come to have their wholeness with the women’s support. In pursuit of the quest for home, Morrison presents the community of maternal love can be an alternative home that brings about spiritual unity.
