This paper presents a new technique for the reduction of the total harmonic distortion, in the line current, produced by the three-phase diode rectifier. To minimize the harmonic distortion of the line current, additional 3 switches are operated by the logic of continuous current condition. This approach used for the reduction of the harmonic currents also helps to improve the input power factor and enhance the system efficiency. The proposed 3 additional switches and their operation are presented. The main features of this switching system are low cost, high efficiency and simplicity. The simulation and experimental results obtained demonstrate the validity of the new approach. The proposed method of harmonic control can be employed in existing system utilizing the same old diode bridge rectifiers.
