This paper is to investigate concepts. decision-making models, determinants, dnd current practices and trends in strategic outsourcing options which should be of vital concern in improving the competitive advantage of Korean manufacturing flrms operating in the NAFTA region. Little research has been done on this topic in Korea in spite of the growing importance of outsourcing strategies all over the world. Inthis context, management and professionals need to evaluate the structures and strategies of outsourcing of the company, and compare it with those of competing companies. The research proceeded in two phases: one is dealing with an estensive review of the outsourcing literature, and the other is tracking current situation and trends in outsourcing of Korean and Japanese subsidiaries in the NAFTA rehion through the findings of several surveys by relevant groups and some interviews by the researcher.
