윤보선의 반공사상과 5.16군사정변 직후의 정치적 선택

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 1961년 5.16군사정변 직후 윤보선의 정치적 선택과 윤보선의 반공사상의 상관성을 분석하였다. 우선 윤보선의 반공사상을 그가 살았던 시공간을 종횡(縱橫)으로 연결하는 장기지속(longue durée)적 사상연쇄(思想􃓜鎖, idea-chains)에 주목하는 관념사(觀念史, history of idea)적 관점에서 고찰해보고, 그러한 반공사상이 5.16직후 그의 정치적 선택에 미 친 영향을 분석하였다. 이 연구의 목표는 5.16군사정변 직후 윤보선의 정치적 선택이 과연 정당했는가 여부를 평가하기 위한 것이 아니다. 다만 대한민국의 광복과 재건을 위해 활동하던 시기부터 형성되었던 윤보선의 뿌리 깊은 반공사상과 5.16군사정변 직후 그의 정치적 선택 사이에 밀접한 관련이 있다는 점을 역사적 자료들을 통해 논증하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article examines the ideological basis on which Yun Posun(1897-1990), the then President of the Republic of Korea, made his political choices following the May 16 military incident of 1961 led by Park Chunghee. First, we look at how the anti-communism of Yun Posun was nurtured during his time as an independence activist under the Japanese occupation and his activities for reestablishing a Korean nation-state after 1945 in terms of idea-chains of longue durée, connecting space and time. Second, this article brings into focus the way his anti-communist stance wielded influence on Yun Posun’s political choices on the morrow of the May 16 military incident. The study is not intended to measure whether those political choices were legitimate or not. Rather, through a rereading of the geopolitical situation and historical materials of the time, it argues that Yun Posun’s deep-rooted anti-communism, which had been nurtured since his participation in the independence movement under the Japanese occupation, was closely intertwined with his political choices shortly after the May 16 military incident of 1961 led by Park Chung-hee.
