This study examined whether adolescents’creative disposition mediates the longitudinal association between perceived negative parenting and grit. Accordingly, this study utilized data from the 2018 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, specifically from the 1st year to 3rd year of middle school, to examine the trajectories of change in the variables over time and their structural relationships through latent growth modeling analysis. Results showed that, as students progressed through grades, perceived negative parenting increased significantly, whereas creative disposition and grit decreased. Second, the initial value and rate of change of negative parenting attitudes had a significant negative effect on the initial values and rates of change of creative disposition and grit. In addition, the initial value of creative disposition had a positive effect on the initial value of grit, while its rate of change showed a significant negative effect. Thirds, Mediation tests supported a significant longitudinal mediating effect of creative disposition in the link between negative parenting and grit. The findings of this study highlight the mediating role of creative disposition in the longitudinal relationship between parents’ negative parenting attitudes and grit during middle school, a critical transitional stage of adolescence. These results provide foundational evidence to inform strategies aimed at enhancing grit among adolescents.
