지구촌 농쟁 문제 중심의 지리교육 = Global Issue-based Geography Education on Social Studies

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 지구촌 사회의 시민적 자질 육성이란 교육적 과제에 대해 현행 사회과 지리교육이 충분히 부응하고 있지 못하다는 문제점을 지적하고, 그 개선 시점으로 지구촌 논쟁문제 중심의 지리교육의 필요성을 제기했다. 그리고 이러한 관점을 구체화하기 위해 미국에서 지리교육 개혁의 일환으로 개발된 지리교재(GIGI)를 분석하고, 이를 바탕으로 지구츤 시대의 지리교육의 내용 편성 및 학습 원리에 대한 시사점을 제시하고자 했다.
분석 결과, 본 교재는 지구시민적 자질 육성이라는 교육 원리에 바탕을 두고, '지구촌 논쟁 문제를 통한 지역 연구 과정(전체 구성)', '문제 상황의 공간적 특성의 파악과정(단원 구성)', '지리적 질문에 기반을 둔 탐구 과정(학습 과정)'이라는 원리에 따라 편성되어 있었다. 이러한 GIGI의 원리는 지리교육이 지구촌교육과 기능 중심 교육이 결합된 방향으로 시민교육을 지향하고 있다는 점에서 향후 우리나라 사회과 지리영역의 내용 편성이나 교수 학습 개선에 시사하는 바가 크다는 점을 지적했다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine curriculum and lesson plan for the global issue-based geography learning on social studies. For this purpose, I analyzed Geographic Inquiry into Global Issues(GIGI), which is the text of geography in America. In the result of analysis, I can get implications as follows.
Firstly, it presents new viewpoint about a geography curriculum. GIGI organizes the curriculum around global issues that gets out of the traditional curriculum organization. Secondary, it grasps the global issues from a spacious characteristic or viewpoint. It gives the originality of geographical field as space or place when learning the global issues. Thirdly, it organizes a curriculum and learning process according to a geographical inquiry process.
I think principles of GIGI are very implicative to the curriculum organization and lesson plan on the geographical field of social studies in Korea. Because it points to the civic education which can learn a knowledge, value and problem solving on the relationship between human and space through the learning of the global issues in the geography.
