The bond characteristics of various types of glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) reinforcing bars with different shape of the surface deformation and manufacturing process were analyzes experimentally. Five types of GFRP rebars whose surface deformations were round, spiral, sand-coated, deformed and waved were considered. Also, two types of manufacturing processes such as pultrusion and RTM(resin transfer molding) were included. All testing procedures including specimens preparation, set-up of test equipments and measuring devices were made according to the CSA S806-02 recommendations.
From the test results, it was found that bond characteristics of GFRP rebar to concrete were greatly influenced by the surface deformation of GFRP rebar. Also degree of roughness made by sand coating significantly increased bond performance of GFRP rebars.
