    Electroencephalographic records and clinical data of 4,531 patients were analyzed and reviewed. All of the patients had undergone EEG examinations at Seoul National University Hospital EEG Laboratory, during recent 9 years (1964-1972). Summary of the results are as follows:
    1. Among total, the greatest number of patients was in epilepsy(62%), and next came psychiatric illness(11%), headache(6%), head injury(6%), infectious disease(5%), cerebral vascular disorder(2%), intracranial tumor(2%), congenital disease(2%), degenerative disease(1%) and metabolic and endocrine disorder(1%), in order of lesser frequency.
    2. In age distribution of various diseases, congenital and degenerative diseases were most frequent in the age group of 0-3 years ; infectious disease and epilepsy in 4-15 years; psychiatric illness in 16-30 years; and C. V. D. , headache, tumor, metabolic and endocrine disorder and head injury in 31-60 years. In age group over 61 years, C. V. D. and metabolic and endocrine disorder predominated.
    3. In epilepsy, grand mal type was the most frequent(64%), and next came focal(16%), T.L.E.(7%), Jacksonian(6%), petit mal(3%), mixed(2%), infantile spasms(1%) and myoclonic(1%), in order of lesser frequency.
    4. In age distribution of various types of epilepsy, infantile spasms and myoclonic seizures were most frequent in the age group of 0-3 years; petit mal, mixed, T.L.E., focal and grand mal in 4-15 years; and Jacksonian in 16-30 years. In age group over 31 years, Jacksonian epilepsies predominated.
    5. Percentages of abnormal EEG's in various diseases were as follows: it was highest in tumor(61%), and next came infectious disease(58%), epilepsy(58%), C.V.D. (51%), degenerative disease(50%), congenital disease(45%), metabolic and endocrine disorder(41%), head injury(39%), headache(26%) and psychiatric illness(19%), in order of lower percentage. Those with symptomatic epilepsies showed higher frequency of abnormal EEG's than those without.
    6. Percentages of abnormal EEG's in various types of epilepsy were as follows: it was highest in infantile spasms(85%), and next came petit mal(69%), mixed(67%), myoclonic(63%), focal(58%), T.L.E.(58%), grand mal(57%) and Jacksonian(52%), in order of lower percentage.
    7. Among symptomatic epilepsies, 37% were infectious disease, which showed the highest incidence.
    8. There was no significant difference between primary and symptomatic epilepsies in the percentage of abnormal EEG's.
    9. In all kinds of diseases, localized abnormalities and the slow wave abnormalities were the most frequent abnormal findings. In C.V.D., head injury, and tumor, asymmetry was the next frequent finding. In epilepsy, congenital disease, infectious disease, psychiatric disease, degenerative disease, headache, and head injury, isolated spikes prevailed. In degenerative disease, rhythmic spikes were prevalent, and in metabolic and endocrine disorder, the depression of voltage.
    10. In infantile spasms, myoclonic epilepsy, and petit mal epilepsy, generalized abnormalities were the most frequent. In Jacksonian, focal, grand mal, T.L.E., and mixed seizures, localized abnormalities were the most frequent. In all clinical types of epilepsy, slow wave abnormalities and isolated spike abnormalities were the most frequent, while in petit mal, spike and wave abnormalities prevailed as well.
    11. Generalized abnormalities appeared most frequently in infectious disease, as localized abnormalities did in tumor and focal abnormalities in epilepsy. Slow wave abnormalities appeared most frequently in infectious disease, as spike and waves did in epilepsy, rhythmic spikes in degenerative disease, isolated spikes in epilepsy, asymmetry in infectious disease, depression of voltage in metabolic and endocrine disorder, and bilaterally synchronous and paroxysmal abnormalities in epilepsy.
