      The abrasion of the road, recently, have been accelerating with the increase of traffic volume and traffic velocity of vehicles, which strongly demands skid resistance increase of pavement. Skid resistance, of course, is not represent the safety index of vehicles as for the diversity causes of traffic accidents, but one of the most important factors for the safety of vehicles. The main purpose of this study is to suggest the safety & repair counterplan at the seriously abrasion points and the management & increase plan of the pavement skid resistance. To accomplish these main objectives, the following studies were performed in this report that is the results of the first study year. The state-of-the-art based on the literature study of general characteristics of pavement skid resistance and the management & increase plan were examined. The characteristics of skid resistance according to the effects of pavement types, travelling velocity, accumulated traffic volume and special locations were analyzed by Pavement Friction Tester(PFT) through the selected field test of highway. The counterplan of present anti-skidding pavement and re-grooving method were also examined. From this study, it is found that skid resistance increase of present anti-skidding pavement is the level of 10 percent increase than ordinary concrete pavement and the effect of re-grooving is not anticipated. Skid resistance with the increase of travelling velocity and traffic volume are also reduced and these results are similar to the previous researches. In the last year of this study, it will be examined the variation of skid characteristics and the improvement plan of anti-skidded pavement through the lab test and field test. The standard levels of skid resistance to prevent the traffic accidents will be suggested.
