This study was to verify the effect of the communication skill training upon middle school students' solution ways of interpersonal troubles and lingual responses to them. The main hypotheses of this study were as follows. First, the communication skill training will have a positive effect on middle school students' solution ways of interpersonal troubles. Second, communication skill training will make lingual responses to troubles positive.
Two groups pretest-posttest experimentation design was used to test the hypotheses. Thirty students were selected as subjects among the first graders of the middle school who volunteered for the communication training. Fifteen students were assigned to the experimental group and the other fifteen were assigned to the control group. And then the preliminary examination about the solution way of personal troubles were carried out. No measures were taken for the control group for the experimental period, whereas seven weeks' communication training program was put in for the experimental group as an experimental treatment. Analysis of covariance was used for the data analysis. To search the change of lingual responses to troubles, the distribution of the ways of lingual responses in troubles was cross-analysed at the beginning and end or the experiment for the experimental group.
The results of analysing collected data in this study are as follows. First, in the four ways of enforcement, adaptation, compromise and compromise except avoidance the statistically meaningful differences were shown. Therefore, the first hypothesis were partially verified. Second, in the trouble making objects, emotions to the trouble making objects and handling ways of troubles there was a statistically meaningful differences. So the three subhypotheses were all verified.
The following results were extracted from the above results. First, the communication training have a positive effect on the enforcement, adaptation, compromise and cooperation way among the middle school students' solution ways of interpersonal troubles. Second, the students who participated in the communication training have a positive attitude in the statement of causing interpersonal troubles, emotional responses and handling ways.
The results of this study partially agree with those of the previous studies that interpersonal relationships can be improved through the communication training program. The subjects of the previous studies were mostly high school and university students, and the communication training also has a positive effect on the middle school students' solution ways of interpersonal troubles.
The limits and proposals are as follows. First, to generalize the results of this study and expand the range of practical uses more multilateral studies researching into the effects of the program to search whether the statistic differences have a practical differences are needed. Second, the increase in frequency doesn't figure qualitative change of the solution of trouble because lingual responses are likely to be influenced by content mainly dealt with during that period. So the more various and systematic tries to verify should be made. Some limitations and implications of this study were discussed.
