Hwang Jini is a famous gisaeng and a poet who had a distinguished poetic talent both in Chinese poetry and Sijo. It is regrettable that only a few her works are existent today but the existent poems of 6 Sijo and 8 Chinese poems shows her individual and outstanding poetic achievement. In the rhetorical dimension, her poems used simile expressions rather than description and form individual and outstanding poetic expressions through metaphor and metonymy. The subject of the poems are mainly yearning for love and sadness of parting. This characteristic in subject supports establishing her unique individual poetic world by embodiment through fanciful imagination and outstanding simile rhetoric. This poetic characteristic where simile expressions are distinguished is the common attribute disclosed both in Chinese poems and Sijo. This poetic characteristic makes people know essential characteristic of her poetic world and how it was created. And it is known through analysis of the Chinese poems that the characteristic of frequently using simile was affected by poems of Li bai. Just as her active temper that did not like to be bound to something, her poems has characteristic expressing her emotion freely and frankly at maximum rather than being bound to something. And such emotion is embodied through excellent simile.
