국제회의도시지정의 정책 효과성에 관한 연구 = The study on effectiveness on the convention city designation policy

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is examining the Convention City designation policy in Korea through policy-making process. The study tries to suggest the way to develop competitiveness of Korean convention industry and policy directions for it. In order to survive in the fierce competition with other Convention City, the following strategies are recommended in the long-term perspective. First of all, it should be investigated whether the designation is proper or not for the city and for the citizen, considering structures and traits of that area. Benefit-cost analyses for the mid-term/long-term period are needed and careful pilot survey should be essential. Secondly, when the effectiveness and the possibility to develop meet the standard, organic collaboration alliance among the center government, the local government, relating business, scholars, and citizens should be made. It has to make elaborated plans to build a convention center and to promote the convention. Thirdly, creative efforts and investments for differentiating, specializing, and professionalizing the area to keep competitiveness should be continued. Thorough studies for structures and characteristics of the area are needed for it. Fourthly, the convention city has to build the multipurpose and sophisticated convention infrastructure and cooperate with Korean Convention Bureau for highly expert invitation, operation, public relations, marketing, and so on. Lastly, convention support enterprises based on local area are needed. The convention city has to train the high-quality human resources, and devise proper solutions for the leakage of convention specialists in advance.
