목표 모형과 심성함양 = Objectives Model and Cultivation of Mind

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Ralf W. Tyler's curriculum development model which is often called as 'objectives model' has been criticized by the well-known curriculum researchers, for example, H. M. Kliebard and W. F. Pinar, etc. In recent times, Joseph Dunne criticizes the objectives model in the peculiar point of view. According to Dunne's analysis, Tyler's curriculum development model is the abstract theory constructed on the superficial understanding of practice: On the one hand, Tyler's objectives model left out details or particulars included in the concrete human relations, and, on the other hand, it cannot be regarded as the method of cultivating phronesis, the inherent aims of education. Then, what do we do for cultivating phronesis? Dunne takes the answer from Aristotelian tradition. But the answer has an aptness to equating phronesis with a technique of living. Neo-Confucian Curriculum theory, a system of explanation on the method of cultivation of mind, indicates the right way of finding the concrete answers about the question.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

‘목표 모형’이라는 이름으로 불리는 타일러의 교육과정 개발 모형은 클리바드, 파이나 등 여러 학자들에 의하여 비판을 받아 왔다. 최근에 요셉 던은 새로운 시각에서 타일러의 목표 모형을 비판하고 있다. 던에 의하면, 타일러의 목표 모형은 ‘실제’에 관한 피상적 이해에 입각하여 구축된 추상적 이론이다. 그가 보기에, 타일러의 목표 모형은, 한편으로, 인간의 행위 과정에 포함되어 있는 수많은 세부 사항들을 빠뜨려 놓고 있으며, 다른 한편으로, 교육의 본래의 목적인 ‘프로네시스’를 함양하기 위한 방법이라고 볼 수 없다. ‘프로네시스’를 함양하기 위해서는 어떻게 해야 하는가? 이 질문에 대하여 요셉 던은 아리스토텔레스적 사고 방식에 입각하여 대답하고 있다. 그러나 그 대답은 ‘프로네시스’를 임기응변술이나 처세술로 간주할 위험성을 안고 있다. 심성을 함양하는 방법에 관한 설명 체계로서의 성리학의 교육과정 이론은 그 질문에 대한 올바른 대답을 시사하고 있다.
