덕 윤리의 관점에서 본 간호실천과 보살핌의 태도 = Nursing practice and caring attitude from the aspect of virtue ethics

In this paper, I aim to inquiry caring attitude for the nursing practice from the aspect of the Maclntyre's virtue ethics. According to Maclntyre,s ethics, the virtue are to be understood as those dispositions which enable us to achieve the goods internal to practice, and to understand what the good life for man is. The virtues find their point not only in sustaining the form of an individual life as whole life, but also in sustaining moral traditions which provide both practice and individual lives with their necessary historical context. This Maclntyre,s arguments can be considered as the proper theoretical basis for the understanding of the moral character of nursing practice. The reason is that the virtue of nurse contribute to the achievement of nursing practice and to understand the narrative unity of the individual life as the good life, and are consistent with the moral traditions of nursing practice.For the nursing practice is required caring attitude as virtue as well as the internal goods, which are practical knowledge as technical skills and interpretive skills of the patient. Caring attitude as the virtue means that nurse appreciate the plight of the patient in the narrative unity of his life, through sympathic awareness of his suffering respond to his need. From this aspect of the virtue ethics, caring attitude make nurse achieve the internal goods to the nursing practice, contribute to understand the personal identity of the nurse, und sustain the sense of the moral tradition of nursing.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 매킨타이어의 덕윤리를 간호윤리의 영역에 응용해 보면서, 간호의 도덕적 실천을 위해서 갖추어야 할 덕으로서의 보살핌의 태도에 대해 탐구해 보고자 한 것이다. 매킨타이어는 공동체 내에서의 특정한 실천의 탁월성과 인간의 총체적 삶의 목적 그리고 도덕적 전통이라는 맥락 속에서 덕의 본질과 그 역할을 통합적으로 설명하고 있다. 이러한 매킨타이어의 덕에 대한 설명방식은 간호실천의 도덕적 성격을 탐구하기 위한 이론적 근거로서 설득력을 지닌다고 여겨진다. 왜냐하면 간호에서의 덕은 바로 전문적인 실천과 개인의 삶의 목적을 분리시키지 않으며 사회적 제도와 역사적 전통으로부터 고립되지 않는 공동체의 도덕적 삶을 유지하기 위한 필수적인 요소로서 간주될 수 있기 때문이다. 탁월한 간호의 실천을 가능하게 하는 내재적인 선은 실천적 지식으로서의 기술적 숙련성 뿐만이 아니라, 덕으로서 보살핌의 태도이다. 보살핌의 태도란 개인의 총체적인 삶의 질서 속에서 개인의 취약성을 이해하고, 이에 대한 공감의 과정을 통해 그들의 요구를 받아들여 이에 응답하는 태도이다. 이것은 간호실천의 탁월성을 성취하기 위해 습득되어야 할 자질이며, 동시에 그 자신이 어떤 삶을 살고 있는 가라는 인격의 정체성을 구성해주며, 더 나아가 간호의 도덕적 전통에 대한 적절한 감각을 내포한다. 오늘날 시장경제의 논리에 따라 이윤추구를 위한 효율적인 경영전략이 앞서가고 있는 의료현장에서 덕 윤리는 인간의 ‘좋은 삶’을 위해 공동체 속에서 보살핌을 실천하는 간호의 도덕적 전통에 대해 다시 생각해 보게 하는 것이다.
