The purpose of this study is to present prospective teaching-learning method for environmental education of water quality, and analyze the STS teaching-learning model. Futhermore this study has identified the effects of STS teaching-learning method on the environmental knowledge of water quality and attitude to environmental conservation of water quality. To carry out this study, 2 classes were randomly selected from 8 classes of 6th grade of K elementary school in Seoul. 1 class of them was assigned to the experimental group and the other class was control group. The number of 36 students of the experiment and control group are also 36 each other. This study has been carried out with the environment of water quality in the elementary practical arts textbooks of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, and the experiment instruction had lasted for 8 weeks from March to April, 1996. For testifying the effects of this experiment after treatment, both of the pre-test and post-test were administered and the results of the test were compared with each other, and the test was confined to the environmental knowledges of water quality and environmental conservation attitudes of water quality. The results of this study were as follows (1) Application of STS teaching-learning model hardly showed effects on knowledges of environment-conservation related to water quality. (2) Application of STS teaching-learning model showed effects on attitude to environment-conservation related to water quality.
