Vol.14 No.1

The factory automation is really the most important problem which the manufacturing industry confronts with. So, the explanation is required about the question the why the investment of factory automation if given and what result connecting with the automation is expected. The existing research about the automation is mainly made in view of engineering and technology, but enough. And, the confusion which is related to the understanding about the correct concept and the strategic effect is caused. It's cause can be find in two points of view. First, it is the confusion of age about the concept of automation. The automation is recognized to the meaning of mechanization which substitutes the work of hand for a machine under the mass productive system in a small good, but today the concept of the automation is based on the establishment of computerization. That is to say, it means to explain the use of information machinery connection with the computer, and actualization of the economies of scale and strategic importance in the economies of scope is simultaneously increasing. Second, it is the confusion of step in the automation technique based of the information. That is to say, the early automation means the automation which substitutes some cornputers of production line for Computer Numerical Control machinery. in this case, it contributies to the increase of production efficiency rather than the security of inflexibility, The automation of unit machine for each of production line is eventually composed of the island of automation, and by causing the synergy effect which is concentrated in the computer organically, and the automation which in characterized as the inflexibility like the FMS can be actualized.

Vol.38 No.4

Companies build the factory automation system to improve management effectiveness and productivity as prime strategies for sustainable growth. But most companies undergo various trials and errors while carrying out the project without elaborate preparation stage for factory automation. In this study, we tried to verify what factors are critical to effectively building distribution automation system, which is a branch of factory automation system. A consulting model for setting up a Material Handling Automation System by utilizing the Stage-Gate Process, which is product development process was studied. 29 material handling automation projects carried out between the year 1990 to 2013 at K-Company were selected. Interviews with the project managers, operators and maintenance personnels, various records and current status of the projects were used as data for structural equations based on the Milan consulting model and existing researches of factory automation, CIM for material handling automation. Creating effective basis of production, material handling system and energy saving system with expert review, when preparing a material handling automation project, help promote the project planning thus contributing to the performance of the resulting system, which appears though rather weakly in our data. Also the effect of material handling automation can be enhanced through sufficient and effective links to the relevant environments such as production logistics management and automated warehouses. More detailed planning characteristics of project promotion or some time-series data of effective Material Handling Automation System could enhace furthur studies. We propose a consulting model for setting up an efficient material handling automation system.

Vol.13 No.2

The research empirically examines the effect of automation level on foreign direct investment (FDI) in aging society based on previous studies arguing automation can mitigate the problem in productivity and economic growth due to population aging in developed countries. Is automation in production positive to attract FDI inflow in aging society? The impact of automation on FDI inflow to developed countries is not simple because of the trend of population aging. Population aging is not hospital to foreign direct investment since it leads to a decline in capital’s marginal productivity. Based on a series of studies showing that automation offsets the decline in labor productivity in aging societies, this research focuses on the possibility that automation increases FDI inflow to developed countries experiencing aging, and empirically analyzes that higher levels of automation increase FDI inflow even when aging levels are high. The result from an analysis of OECD countries and China presents that although a 1% increase in population aging results in $2.659 billion decrease in FDI inflow in manufacturing, the negative impact of aging on FDI inflow alleviates with the level of automation. The empirical result implies that a higher level of automation plays a crucial role in participating in the global supply chain since it has a positive effect on FDI inflow in developed countries.

Vol.25 No.2

Robot Process Automation (RPA) is a computer technology called Robotic Process Automation, a form of business process automation based on the concept of software robots or artificial intelligence (AI) walkers. In general, in traditional workflow automation tools, software developers design software that creates a set of actions to automate tasks and interfaces for the back-end systems using internal APIs or dedicated script languages. However, in RPA software, automation can be implemented by configuring an operating processor as if the general user is directly performing the task of the application. In other words, it can be said that it is a suitable development method for automating simply repetitive tasks rather than developing specific programs in which all necessary functions are implemented, as in general software development. Thus, this is more appropriate for configuring and automating RPA software in traditional manufacturing companies that are not easy to develop and apply smart factories or high-end AI software. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the requirements required at the actual manufacturing companies, focusing on the manufacturer's case in Changwon, Gyeongsangnam-do, called SinceWin Co., Ltd., and to examine the possibility of RPA software in the manufacturing companies by implementing actual RPA software that supports office automation. Through the research, it was confirmed that the actually implemented RPA software met the requirements of the company and helped manufacturer practice significantly by automating the parts that were worked error-prone and manually periodically.

Vol.40 No.1

This study aims to examine the effects of automation on employment and working hours. Previous studies have approached the topic at the national level or at the industry or regional level. However, they often miss the specific national context and how businesses respond to automation at the firm level. Also, they do not focus on the differential effects of automation on regular and irregular or atypical employment. In this study, we examine the impact of automation on employment and working hours by subgroups. We used biennial data from the Workplace Panel Survey from 2015 to 2019. The results show that the level of automation has a statistically significant and positive effect on increasing the number of dispatched workers for large companies and the increase in irregular employment for small and medium-sized enterprises. Regardless of the occupation, higher levels of automation are associated with an increase in hours worked. Overall, the findings that the effects of automation can lead to increased precarious employment and longer working hours suggest that close monitoring of automation’s impact on employment and active institutional interventions are increasingly important.

Vol.24 No.3

This paper defines the turning point of the “automation” discourse in South Korea as the 1990s, especially when the discourse and technologies of “financial automation” spread in the society, by analyzing the popular narratives in the media at the time. The “automation” discourse previously centered on a rather playful imagination of a hopeful future but, at this turn, connected with a sense of anxiety over an inhuman and cold-hearted dystopia. To examine this, the paper traces the trajectory of the “automation” discourses in South Korea and, based on that historicization, investigates the representations of financial automation in the films of the 1990s. It explores the transition from the 1980s when the automation technology and its mobility system were embraced as the objects of amusement and admiration in a consumer utopia to the 1990s when the financial transparency became the spirit of the times in that neoliberal globalization visualized the individual’s everyday life in the flow of financial automation.

Vol.- No.105

This study explores the impact of the rapid advancement of generative artificial intelligence technologies on the overall process of film production, focusing on the concept of “automation,” and examines its aesthetic implications. Recent trends—such as AI-generated Studio Ghibli-style images and the humanization of pets—demonstrate the growing presence of AI as a tool in visual creation. However, these phenomena often remain at the level of superficial fascination with technical effects and lack deeper engagement with the fundamental aesthetic and philosophical questions surrounding cinema. To address this gap, this study draws upon the film philosophy of Gilles Deleuze and the realism theory of Siegfried Kracauer to analyze the aesthetic potentials and limitations of AI-generated films through two conceptual lenses: the “automation of thought” and the “automation of reality representation.” First, the automation of thought refers to film’s unique capacity to trigger reflective thinking in the viewer. Based on Deleuze’s concepts of movement-image and time-image, this paper argues that AI-generated imagery can also activate viewer cognition. For example, the AI-generated short film <Get Me Out>, which won a prize at the Runway AI Film Festival, combines synthetic and live-action images to create overlapping temporal and spatial structures that compel interpretive engagement. This process illustrates Deleuze’s notion of the “power of the false,” wherein AI-generated images transcend mere imitation and become agents of new ontological and perceptual possibilities. Second, the automation of reality representation emphasizes cinema’s ability to mechanically record and reproduce reality through the camera. While rooted in photography, cinema extends realism by incorporating temporality and motion. This study further analyzes Tesla’s AI-based video generation technology used in its autonomous driving system, which reconstructs a 3D spatial reality from multi-camera input. This example suggests that cinematic realism, when integrated with AI, can evolve from mimetic reproduction to algorithmic construction of plausible realities—indicating a new phase of aesthetic automation. Ultimately, this study contends that AI-driven filmmaking should not be confined to discussions of visual fidelity or technological sophistication, but rather be redefined as a dynamic aesthetic field formed through human–machine collaboration. AI-generated films are actively deconstructing and reassembling the language of cinema, signaling not the end of film aesthetics, but the beginning of a new era of creative possibility.

Vol.37 No.4

This study aims to empirically investigate the impact of automation level on the demand for automation-related training programs in manufacturing firms. To this end, this study utilizes the results of a sub-survey of the Korea Institute of Advanced Technology(KIAT)'s 2022 Industrial Technology Manpower Supply and Demand Survey to conduct an empirical analysis. According to the results, there is a positive relationship between the level of automation and the demand for automation-related training programs among workers. While most of the previous studies have focused on quantitative research on human resources such as job creation, job discovery, and new recruitment due to automation, this study has the significance of empirically analyzing the demand for training programs necessary to improve the job skills of incumbents. Considering the results of this analysis, it suggests that companies promoting automation need to identify and support the demand for related training programs when introducing automation.

Vol.- No.83

This paper is aim to identify what is called the ‘meta-mechanics’ of surrealism films. And to reveal what is the concept of ‘automation’ in early movies from 1900’s to 1960’s. Also I would like to analyze what automation represents. Finally, I will interpret all this on an anthropological dimension. To do this, it is very important for analyzing the problems of ‘François Marie Charles Fourier’s labor in phalanstère’ using the ‘eros’ of ‘meta-mechanics’. In particular, ‘automation’ will be divided into ‘filmic automation’ and ‘engineering automation’ to examine the concepts of ‘kinetics’ and ‘photomontage’ in films. And this paper is to find out the anthropological meaning by comparing ‘automaton’ and ‘artificial intelligence’ in <Metropolice> which Fritz Lang directs. In conclusion, this article shows what the meaning of humans and technology, humans and movies produce trans-disciplinarily. The most clear explanation of this meaning is “the paradigm shift of power”. My attempts will be valuable in that they deal with “movie” and “human” in the “automation”- era.
