The Basic Research for the Contents of Roboethics EducationHyuna Jee Abstract: With the emergence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, a variety of ethical problems due to artificial intelligence robots are expected, and much attention has been paid to the importance of roboethics that can solve such problems. Accordingly, more and more people are agreeing that we need a new change in school education to apply roboethics. This study aimed to embody the roboethics education in moral education as it focused on the need for roboethics education according to the emergence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution era. To do this, this study clearly identified the meaning of roboethics. In addition, this study clarified the contents of roboethics education based on the roboethics. Key Words: The Fourth Industrial Revolution, Robot, Artificial Intelligence Robot, Roboethics, Roboethics Education 로봇윤리교육의 내용에 대한 기초 연구지 현 아** 연구 목적: 이 연구는 인공지능 로봇과 관련된 다양한 윤리적 문제를 해결할 수 있는 로봇윤리의 중요성에 대해 인식하고 이를 토대로 로봇윤리교육의 구체적 내용을 제시한 후에 최종적으로는 현재 로봇윤리교육 내용의 개선방향을 제시하여 로봇윤리교육의 내용을 보완하는데 주요 목적이 있다. 연구 방법: 로봇윤리의 의미와 로봇윤리교육의 내용에 대해 논의한 후에 로봇윤리교육의 실태에 대해 분석하고, 앞에서 밝힌 로봇윤리교육의 내용을 분석틀로 해서 로봇윤리교육의 개선 방향을 제안하였다. 연구 내용: 로봇윤리교육의 실태를 분석한 결과, 현재 진행되고 있는 로봇윤리교육의 내용은 로봇윤리 중 ‘인간의 윤리’ 내용만 강조하고 있었고 특히 약인공지능 로봇을 대상으로 하는 ‘인공지능 윤리’ 내용만 강조하고 있었다. 결론 및 제언: 로봇윤리교육의 개선 방향으로 미래에 인간의 자율성을 뛰어넘을 수 있는 강인공지능 로봇에 대한 존재론 탐구를 통해 로봇과 인간의 차이점을 알아갈 수 있는 ‘로봇의 윤리’ 내용을 추가할 필요가 있다는 점을 제안하였다. 핵심어: 제4차 산업혁명, 로봇, 인공지능 로봇, 로봇윤리, 로봇윤리교육 □ 접수일: 2022년 10월 3일, 수정일: 2022년 10월 16일, 게재확정일: 2022년 10월 20일* 이 논문은 2019년 대한민국 교육부와 한국연구재단의 지원을 받아 수행된 연구임(NRF-2019S1A5B5A07110661). ** 대구교육대학교 윤리교육과 강사(Lecturer, Daegu National Univ. of Education, Email: delona@naver.com)

A Study of Theoretical and Practical Issues for Roboethics

This paper aims to examine and criticize the ontological views of robots; if they can exist only by the hands of human beings or in themselves, also explore the given approaches of roboethics, and finally to seek the new orientation of roboethics. Robots are seen in various views, but in past they are under the notion of machines created by human beings. In robotics, the long-term ethical concerns of utilizing robots in human lives are difficult to calculate; whereas in the minds of traditional ethicists there is a tendency to be excessively worried for the bad effects in robots` performances. Now to prepare for living with robots, first of all, we have to consider robots` ontological positions and moral activities, as agents, input by human beings as creators, designers, programmers, producers, consumers, controllers, or regulators. In this consideration, beyond the recognition that robots are made as tools, robots can be qualified as quasi-agents that have certain influences on humans by promoting intelligent, purposive activities in the programs to realize other-regarding virtues reflected by human morality which include self-regarding interests from the first design. When reaching any contemplation, this enables us to consider three main ethical approaches to robots: Asimov`s laws-based, deontology-based, and utility-based approaches. Thinking over their approaches and possible issues, will furthermore, make us go forward to demand a new challenge in roboethics: responsibility of human beings as their creators of robots, or the responsibility of robots as quasi-autonomous beings programmed for the goals of humanity, even though they are created for the purpose of self-regarding interests of humans, for example, to earn a lot of money.

Robots are entering into our world. Development and ever-widening application of robotics is accompanied by the situations where we should encounter philosophical and ethical questions about robotics, robotic beings, and human-robot relation. Roboethics is a new disciplinary area which deals with those problems. The aim of this paper is to contribute to establishing the basic principles of roboethics. With this in mind, I analyze and evaluate Isaac Asimov`s Three Laws of Robotics and a corrected version suggested by Murphy and Woods(2009). Then I propose another corrected version of Asimov`s Laws, a sort of grammatical rewriting of them. My version, making it clear that robots are artefacts created by human being for a certain purpose, will help us to spare some redundant philosophical debate in roboethics and suggests the direction for the development and articulation of roboethics. Even if robots are not genuinely autonomous agents, they can function as agents realizing a certain degree and amount of autonomy in the phenomenological level. Roboethics should provide us the principles for how to handle such phenomenological autonomy.

In the AI ​​ethics discussion, robot ethics is generally regarded as the first normative approach to AI technology, an early stage in the AI ​​ethics discussion. Meanwhile, the two discussions are sometimes described without any particular distinction. How should their correlation be understood in the context of AI ethics? The thesis clarifies the relationship between the discussion of roboethics and AI ethics to increase the understanding and effectiveness of AI ethics. The connection and mixing of roboethics and AI ethics is found in the literature from 2016 to 2018. As robots become autonomous systems, issues of roboethics are integrated with issues of artificial intelligence ethics. On the other hand, it can also be found that the discussion of roboethics is similar to that of AI ethics. From this, it can be seen that the relationship between the two ethics should be understood as a continuation of the technology-society-value discussion, and it should go beyond the focus of the existing discussion and become ‘everyone’s ethics’ based on human responsibility. It is requested to combine human life and value orientation in the future with special period conditions and consider it critically with alternative imagination.

Nursing Ethical Considerations in the AI-Based Technologies

Purpose: As artificial intelligence(AI) has currently used in many ways related to nurses, there is an ultimate need to consider the ethical values of AI in healthcare. Thus, the present study first investigates several types of AI-based technologies and robotics applied to nursing, such as supportive, cooperative, and collaborative robots. Moreover, several ethical guidelines and requirements for AI, ethical issues and concerns of AI, especially nursing ethical considerations, are explored based on the principles of biomedical ethics and the nursing code of ethics. Method: We searched for existing scientific literature using the keywords “AI or Robot or Nurses”, “AI or Robot and Ethics” in PubMed until March 2022. Next, we reviewed the articles related to ethical issues and considera-tions in AI-based technologies, especially in the field of healthcare. In addition, a web-based search about robot-ics in nursing was conducted to find out their specific roles. Results: The direction of ethical discussion of AI has changed from Roboethics, which emphasizes ro-bot’s behavior and the responsibility of robots, to ethics for humans, such as developers and users. There are many ways AI is helping to overcome health care challenges, such as diagnosis, precision medicine, and prediction models. For the safety of human-robot interaction, ethics of caring need to be discussed in close proximity for nurses, patients, or both. Therefore, AI needs to consider patient safety first, do no harm and aggravate the patient’s condition, sufficiently provide to treat diseases and improve patients’ health conditions, and the service needs to be distributed equally without prejudice and discrimination regardless of medical problems. Conclusion: As AI has incredible potential to empower people and widely benefit current and future generations, AI ethics needs to be further discussed in a direction in harmony with the development of related industries. Nurses should understand AI applications and their implications for nursing research and practice to improve patient care and clinical outcome. In addition, careful ethical considerations and engagement with nurses in implementing and evaluating AI-based technologies in healthcare are critical to the best clinical decisions and developing reliable innovations.
