Yoon, Hyung-Min,Lee, Byoung-Ok,Cheong, Cheol-Ho,Hur, Jin-Suk,Kim, Sang-Gon,Chung, Woo-Nam,Lee, Yong-Ho,Park, Woo-Chan The Institute of Electronics and Information Engin 2015 IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing Vol.4 No.2
In this paper, we describe the world's first real-time ray-tracing chip architecture. Ray-tracing technology generates high-quality 3D graphics images better than current rasterization technology by providing four essential light effects: shadow, reflection, refraction and transmission. The real-time ray-tracing chip named RayChip includes a real-time ray-tracing graphics processing unit and an accelerating tree-building unit. An ARM Ltd. central processing unit (CPU) and other peripherals are also included to support all processes of 3D graphics applications. Using the accelerating tree-building unit named RayTree to minimize the CPU load, the chip uses a low-end CPU and decreases both silicon area and power consumption. The evaluation results with RayChip show appropriate performance to support real-time ray tracing in high-definition (HD) resolution, while the rendered images are scaled to full HD resolution. The chip also integrates the Linux operating system and the familiar OpenGL for Embedded Systems application programming interface for easy application development.

It has been suggested that digital divide occurs in demographic and socioeconomic environments of the country. On the contrary, the E-Government was expected to provide information services to the people in a balanced manner, improve the quality of the people’s life by participating in government policies, and enhance the people’s understanding by sharing more diverse information. So far many studies have studied digital divide by economic and educational level with demographic characteristics. E-government is evolving with the introduction of advanced ICT along with the fourth industrial revolution. But previous studies have focused on the analysis focus on the ICT technology side that the development of ICT technology leads to a digital divide. Therefore, this study will examine the factors that can actually affect the digital divide in E-government using ICT rather than the development of ICT technology. This study established 93 national panels and conducted self-correlation verification and demonstration analysis by year through the main determinants of e-government and digital divide. As a result, it has a positive effect on bridging the digital divide as E-participation, E-urbanization and GNI(Gross National Income). In addition, GNI groups are dividie into high-income, middle-income and low income countries. It was confirmed that there is a difference in GNI groups. The digital divide was studied through the E-service and E-participation indexes. As a result it was found that E-participation helps the digital divide than E-serivce of government. It has implications that is necessary to provide consumer services in the E-pariticipation rather than quantitatively expanding the E-service. This study suggests that major factors of E-government have a positive effect on digital divide then suggesting strategic implications for the consideration of national policy and E-government system.

The purpose of this research is to examine the characteristics and current status of OASIS, a web archive, developed and operated by the National Library of Korea. From December 2013 to November 2014, an analysis of a numerical growth and subject distribution of 55,581 websites archived at OASIS shows many problems in quality, including an overwhelming proportion of 'Social Science' and its subclass 'Politics', consequential lack of balance in subject distribution, lack of authority or scholarly value of some contents, unclear application of selection criteria for personal creators/publishers, and inaccurate and overlapping statistics. Despite an impressive growth in quantity, immediate improvement of selection policies and quality control is needed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the possibility of using the WorldCat, an International Union Catalog operated by OCLC as a tool for analyzing the trend of knowledge distribution in libraries around the world. In this study, four subject keywords, that is, Korea, Korean, Japan, and Japanese, were used to search materials related to Korea and Japan, and four facets, including medium, genre, language, and user level, were used to categorize search results from the WorldCat. The result shows that information resources related to Korea held by libraries around the world are only a little more than a third of Japan-related information resources. Especially Korea-related information resources for juveniles are less in numbers and lack in diversity in languages, media and genres, when compared with Japan-related information resources. Also an examination of two bibliographic records demonstrates that viewpoints expressed in user contributed reviews might affect diffusion of knowledge on certain subjects in the Next Generation Library Catalog.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the major features of Next Generation Library Catalogs. 'Next Generation Melvyl Pilot' of University of California Library System and 'SearchWorks' of Stanford University Library are examined. While the former is developed, based on OCLC WorldCat Local, the latter is based on the Blacklight, an Open Source Catalog Software. Both commonly provide the features, including enriched contents, facet navigation, keyword searching, relevancy ranking of search results, and user contribution, etc., but some functions vary in scopes and contents. Also, it seems that both are in process of development rather than complete implementations.
