Purpose : To investigate the relationship between 3D bone architectural parameters and direction-related elastic moduli of cancellous bone of mandibular condyle. Materials and Methods : Two micro-pigs (Micro-pig^(R), PWG Genetics Korea) were used. Each pig was about 12 months old and weighing around 44 kg. 31 cylindrical bone specimen were obtained from cancellous bone of condyles for 3D analysis and measured by micro-computed tomography. Six parameters were trabecular thickness (Tb.Th), bone specific surface (BS/BV), percent bone volume (BV/TV), structure model index (SMI), degree of anisotropy (DA) and 3-dimensional fractal dimension (3DFD). Elastic moduli of three orthogonal directions (superiorinferior (SI), medial-lateral (ML), andterior-posterior (AP) direction) were calculated through finite element analysis. Results : Elastic modulus of superior-inferior direction was higher than those of other directions. Elastic moduli of 3 orthogonal directions showed different correlation with 3D architectural parameters. Elastic moduli of SI and ML directions showed significant strong to moderate correlation with BV/TV, SMI and 3DFD. Conclusion : Elastic modulus of cancellous bone of pig mandibular condyle was highest in the SI direction and it was supposed that the change into plate-like structure of trabeculae was mainly affected by increase of trabeculae of SI and ML directions.


방사선사진에서의 골질과 임상적으로 평가한 골질 분류의 상관관계

Purpose : To investigate the validity of digital image processing on panoramic radiographs in estimating bone quality before endosseous dental implant installation by correlating bone quality in radiographic images with clinical bone quality classification. Materials and Methods : An experienced surgeon assessed and classified bone quality for implant sites with tactile sensation at the time of implant placement. Including fractal dimension eighteen morphologic features of trabecular pattern were examined in each anatomical sites on panoramic radiographs. Finally bone quality of 67 implant sites were evaluated in 42 patients. Results : Pearson correlation analysis showed that three morphologic parameters had weak linear negative correlation with clinical bone quality classification showing correlation coefficients of -0.276, -0.280, and -0.289, respectively (p<0.05). And other three morphologic parameters had obvious linear negative correlation with clinical bone quality classification showing correlation coefficients of -0.346, -0.488, and -0.343 respectively (p<0.05). Fractal dimension also had a linear correlation with clinical bone quality classification with correlation coefficients -0.506 significantly (p<0.05). Conclusion : This study suggests that fractal and morphometric analysis using digital panoramic radiographs can be used to evaluate bone quality for implant recipient sites. A 60-year-old female, who complained of delayed healing and swelling after extraction of left lower second molar during chemotherapy, visited our department. She had a history of a resection surgery of breast cancer and postoperative radiotherapy. The conventional radiographs showed diffuse permeative bone destruction in posterior mandibular body, which gave the first radiologic impression of osteonecrosis associated with radiotherapy or chemotherapy. And bone metastasis from the breast cancer was also considered in the differential diagnosis. On the enhanced computed tomography (ECT) the posterior mandibular body was occupied by a large expansile lesion showing central low attenuation with peripheral rim enhancement. Magnetic resonance images revealed that the low attenuated area on ECT did not show as high signal intensity as water on T2 weighted image and indicated solid component of a tumor. The final diagnosis was central squamous cell carcinoma. We present the diagnostic imaging features of the patient with special emphasis on the differential diagnosis.

Desmoplastic ameloblastoma is a rare histologic variant of ameloblastoma. It shows important differences in anatomic distribution, histologic appearance, and radiographic findings compared with the general type of ameloblastoma. It is histologically characterized by an abundance of densely collagenous stroma and radiographically a mixed radiolucent-radiopaque lesion. We present three cases of desmoplastic ameloblastoma. All the patients complained on buccal swelling with or without pain and the sites of occurrence were the anterior and the premolar region. Plain radiographs showed mixed radiopaque-radiolucent lesion with ill-defined or diffuse sclerotic margin and no external root resorption. Additionally, CT scans revealed buccal expansion and relatively well-defined margin of the lesions. The clinical and radiographic features of the presented cases were compared with those of the desmoplastic ameloblastoma in the previous literatures. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2006; 36 : 63-8)

Eco-Friendly MoO3 Doped Indium Oxide Thin-Film Transistor

For the development of high-performance thin-fi lm transistors (TFTs), In 2 O 3 , which can be produced through a solution process and possesses exceptional electrical properties, is a key oxide semiconductor material. On the basis of aqueous solutions, In 2 O 3 semiconductors can be manufactured in an environmentally benign manner, but they have disadvantages such as diminished electrical properties and decreased stability. This investigation investigated the eff ect of MoO 3 doping concentration on the electrical properties and stability of In 2 O 3 TFT fabricated from aqueous solutions. By modifying the oxygen vacancy, the addition of MoO 3 to the In 2 O 3 solution reduced defects within the semiconductor thin fi lm and enhanced the stability of the oxide semiconductor. Observations of MoO 3 doping concentration condition (0 wt%, 3 wt%, 5 wt%, 7 wt%) in In 2 O 3 TFT exhibited enhancements in Vth : 12.8 V → 3.7 V movement and on/off current ratio. Moreover, the results of positive bias stress and negative bias stress, which are evaluations of reliability, confi rmed the eff ect of enhancing the electrical properties and stability of In 2 O 3 TFT through MoO 3 doping by decreasing Vth as the doping concentration increases. To observe the change in In 2 O 3 fi lm by MoO 3 doping concentration, atomic force microscopy and contact angle measurements confi rmed the gradual interface change, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analysis confi rmed the change in physical properties of In 2 O 3 fi lm due to MoO 3 doping. In addition, a Mo-In 2 O 3 TFT-based resistance load inverter was evaluated, and its applicability as an active electronic device was confi rmed by analyzing its inversion characteristics under diff erent VDD conditions.

Background/Aims: Long-term data on antiviral therapy in Korean patients with hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative chronic hepatitis B (CHB) are limited. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of entecavir (ETV) and lamivudine (LAM) over 240 weeks. Methods: Treatment-naive patients with HBeAg-negative CHB were randomized to receive ETV 0.5 mg/day or LAM 100 mg/day during the 96 week double-blind phase, followed by open-label treatment through week 240. The primary endpoint was the proportion of patients with virologic response (VR; hepatitis B virus [HBV] DNA< 300 copies/mL) at week 24. Secondary objectives included alanine aminotransferase (ALT) normalization and emergence of ETV resistance (week 96), VR and log reduction in HBV DNA levels (week 240), and safety evaluation. Results: In total, 120 patients ( >16 years old) were included (ETV, n=56; LAM, n=64). Baseline characteristics were comparable between the two groups. A significantly higher proportion of ETV-treated patients achieved VR compared to LAM at week 24 (92.9% vs. 67.2%, P=0.0006), week 96 (94.6% vs. 48.4%, P<0.0001), and week 240 (95.0% vs. 47.6%, P<0.0001). At week 96, ALT normalization was observed in 87.5% and 51.6% of ETV and LAM patients, respectively (P<0.0001). Virologic breakthrough occurred in one patient (1.8%) receiving ETV and 26 patients (42.6%) receiving LAM (P<0.0001) up to week 96. Emergence of resistance to ETV was not detected. The incidence of serious adverse events was low and unrelated to the study medications. Conclusions: Long-term ETV treatment was superior to LAM, with a significantly higher proportion of patients achieving VR. Both treatments were well tolerated. (Clin Mol Hepatol 2017;23:331-339)
베이지안 위계적 모델을 적용한 KBL 선수들의 포지션과 3점슛 능력의 관계 분석

This study aims to identify differences in 3-point shooting ability depending on position by confirming the structural relationship between the position and 3-point shooting ability of Korean professional basketball players. For this purpose, game results related to 3-point shots of professional basketball players from 2021 to 2022 were collected from the KBL website, and the collected results were analyzed by applying a Bayesian hierarchical model. the results are as follow: 1. the position with the highest 3-point shooting ability was guard, followed by forward and center. The group with the highest heterogeneity was the center. 2. there was no significant difference in the 3-point shooting ability between guard-forward, guard-center, and forward-center at the 95% HDI level. 3. as a result of verifying the difference by extracting one player from each position with relatively high 3-point shooting ability, it was found that there was no significant difference at the 95% HDI level. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is currently no difference in 3-point shooting ability depending on position in Korean professional basketball, and these results suggest that there is a change in role depending on position in domestic professional basketball games.
