The Government is concerned about this all-time low birthrate and busy implementing new policies in order to 'promote the childbirth'. The former population related policies were geared toward keeping down the population by encouraging people to use contraceptive methods, to be sterilized as well as by tolerating open abortions thereby promoting the attitude of undervaluing the life. The current policies promoting childbirth are geared toward increasing the birthrate by promoting and supporting artificial fertilization to the sterile couples leading to another type of threats to life. This is nothing but a threat against the life. The dignity of life itself has been plummeted, influenced by the pretence of pro-choice which is just a cover-up of people's selfishness. The science, especially the bioscience has been rapidly progressing. However, unfortunately, these policies and researches have achieved a lot about the ways on how to control and use the procreation ability but not the ways to preserve the embedded value of the fertility and to maintain the procreative power in a balanced manner. The bioethical consciousness begins from valuing our own life. We can value the other's life only when we do recognize the value of our own life. The fertile women are ignorant of their procreative power. Therefore, the women do not value their ability for procreation. On the procreation ability as well as the process on how the women can accept the value of life by themselves. When a woman can recognize the value of the fertility, she would learn the way to preserve the life, and would become open-minded about a new life. This is because her ethical sense on life will be strengthen as she experiences the mystery of her body.

I have analysed the musical aspects concerning Chouli (Churye, 주례, 周禮). one of the Confucian Canons. and attempted to consider the backgrounds to chakak (작악, 作樂. systems of composing music) and its relation to that of the early Chosŏn dynasty. Its analyses are based on seven aspects: (i) a brief survey of Chouli in terms of historical backgrounds: (ii) methods of the uses and functions of music relating to various rites regarding Orye (오례, 五禮) [literally Five Rites of Passage . such as kilye (길례, 吉禮, all the etiquette of state rites) . hyungye (흉례, 凶禮, rites of unfortunate affairs). pinye (빈례, 賓禮, social functions between ruling classes). kunye (군례, 軍禮, military ceremonies) and karye (가례, 嘉禮, domestic gatherings)]; (iii) types and numbers of officials who were called akkwan (악관, 樂官) as well as the contents of their works or duties in relation to musical affairs concerned; (iv) types of akmu (악무, 樂舞, types of music) and its functions; (v) an examination of classifications and types of musical instruments employed; (vi) contents regarding music theory such as sibiyul osŏng (12율(律) 5성(聲), twelve pitches and five tones). akjo (악조, 樂調, scale/ mode). pyŏnsu (변수, 變數, a type of musical performance) and akhyŏn (악현, 樂懸, installation of musical instrument); (vii) musical ideas based on other clues for sŏngŭi mihak (성(聲)의 미학(美學), aesthetics of musical sound). ŭmyangron (음양론, 陰陽論, the Yin and Yang principle) and chunghwa (중화, 中和, equilibrium). The survey regarding Chouli revealed two aspects : (i) backgrounds to the book : (ii) its contents of musical aspects. Firstly. I would consider that Chouli, which was concerned with chŏnjang (전장, 典章, all the cultural systems and organisations of the Chou dynasty) of the Western Chou dynasty (c. 1027-771 B.C.) . was written by the historians of the Chou court during the Eastern Chou period (770 -256 B.C.). The reason appeared to have derived from the fact that aspects of both its writing period and contents on the Chou dynasty were certainly around the Western Chou period. The other reason lied in the fact that the theory of Yin-Yang. which constituted the core of the musical ideas. was applied to the several sections of Chouli as a primary principle. while ohaengsŏl had not yet been applied, and although there was evidence that it was only on the seminal stage of oje (오재, 五材, literally five malerials/ elements) and remained the same stage afterwards. This fact corresponded to the historical process that ohaengsŏl was emerged from the Ch unch u periods [춘추, 春秋, literally Spring and Autumn Periods] (722-481 B.C.). Secondly, I have looked in the contents of musical aspects in Chouli in detail. There were twenty categories in akkwan relating to musical affairs such as administrative works. akjang (악장, 樂長, representatives of musical matters). educators. performers. curators for instruments. instrument makers. and so forth. The rankings of these officials corresponded to the status of ko (고, 考), ŭn (은, 殷) and po (보, 輔) which were equivalent to the order from the highest ranking to the lowest one - chŏng (정, 正). yi (이, 貳). ko. ŭn and po of kŏnje (건제, 建制, systems of official duties). And the total of the numbers was more than 1.463 people. Of them more than a half were ko (고, 瞽, the blind) and muja (무자, 無者, dancers). From the rest of the numbers the majority belonged to chongsa (종사, 鍾師), kyŏngsa (경사, 磬師) and paksa (박사, 鎛師) which comprised about sixty people. whereas the people who were classified with saengsa (생사, 笙師) were twenty-one people who belonged to a minority. There were different status among them: for instance, people who were working as administrators had higher rankings than the people who were engaged in practical matters such as performer or people in charge of foreign

The Akhakkwebeom is more accurate and valuable than any other music treatises in that it recorded the pictures, illustrations, and the measurements of the instruments. However, it contains inaccurate descriptions because of the compiler s misunderstanding between theory and practice. The Akhakkwebeom used two kinds of rulers, the yeongjo ruler and pobaek ruler, and it uses the former for measuring the instruments. Four aspects should be considered with relation to the yardstick of measuring instruments. First, the length of the hwangjongjang of 12 yurwijangdoseol, 9 chon; Second, the awareness of the length of dongyulgwan created during the reign of King Sejong; Third, the proportional length between the hwangjong ruler and yeongjo ruler that is 1:0.899; Forth: the measurement of the instruments actual length measured by the yeongjo ruler. The yeongjo ruler was used for establishing buildings or heavy facilities, and the reason it was used for producing instruments was because the creation of hwangjongyulgwan failed, and only 1 li of difference existed between the yeongjo ruler and the length of dongyulgwan transmitted at the Jangagweon at that time. Although the hwangjongjang was 1 cheok, Seonghyeon erroneously applied the old theory of 9 chon and mistook the difference of length 101 li for 1 li. The actual length of the yeongjo ruler and the results of the existing studies on the yeongjo ruler are approximately 30-31cm, and the length of the yeongjo ruler examined by the author is approximately the same length as well. Considering that the length of the yeongjo ruler has not changed greatly, and that the pitches of the aak have not changed, the length of the yeongjo ruler between today and during the period of Akhakkwebeom is assumed to be not very different.

The kinds of instrumentation of court ritual and banquet musics at the time of Akhakgwebeom are as follows: deungga and heonga of abujeak; deungga and heonga of jongmyo and yeongnyeongjeon; jeonsangak and jeonjeongak of munsojeon, yeoneunjeon, and sogyeongjeon; the ensemble, composed of female entertainers (yeogi) and musicians (akgong), of jeongjeon banquets; gochwi of jeonjeonggochwi, jeonhugochwi, jeonbugochwi, and hubugochwi. Focusing on “Siyong,” this paper discusses the characteristics of instrumentation of Akhakgwebeom by examining various performance pieces and the instrumentation s form and use. To scrutinize the kinds of instrumentation, genres of music are divided as follows: the ritual music of abu; the ritual music of jongmyo and yeongnyeongjeon; the ritual music of munsojeon, yeoneunjeon, and sogyeongjeon; banquet music; and gochwiak. The purpose of this paper is to understand the musical culture of King Seongjong period. Moreover, the significance of this paper is that it reveals a part of the history of instrumentation. The instrumentation of Akhakgwebeom differs according to musical pieces, and Hyangdanggyoju is the most discussed piece. Each ensemble is consisted of various types of court performers such as aksa, aksaeng, akgong, and yeogi. In Akhakgwebeom, two kinds of performance posture are discussed: sitting and standing posture. However, today the tradition of performance posture is no longer carried on. Whereas Sejongsillok and Gukjooryeui describe the directional disposition of the ensembles, Akhakgwebeom has no descriptions about direction. However, because today s court music performance has become a staged one, the direction of disposition no longer has any meaning. Also, the instrumentation of Akhakgwebeom is divided into performances of ritual music, banquets, and marching music; instrumentation of these performances are further subdivided. Among the musical pieces performed by various ensembles, the pieces performed at deungga and heonga of abu ritual music are currently carried on as part of the repertories of the Confucius Shrine Ritual (munmyojerye). The pieces performed at deungga and heonga of jongmyo and yeongnyeongjeon are continued to be offered at the Royal Ancestral Shrine Ritual (jongmyojerye); the piece Junggwangjang is added to Botaepyeong, a set of pieces performed at jongmyojerye. The instrumentation of jeonsangak and jeonjeongak performed at the shrines such as munsojeon, yeoneunjeon, and sogyeongjeon are not transmitted, but among the musical pieces, Nagyangchun, Yuhwanggok, and Jeongdongbanggok are still performed today. Among the pieces of dangak or gochwiak performed by various ensembles such as the ensemble, composed of female entertainers (yeogi) and musicians (akgong), of jeongjeon banquets, jeonjeongheonga, jeonjeonggochwi, jeonhugochwi, jeonbugochwi, and hubugochwi, Gyeu, Yeokseong, Jeolhwasamdae, Geumjeollak, Seongsumugangman, Hwangungak are no longer performed, but Yeomillakman, Yeomillagyeong, Nagyangchun, and Boheoja (Ryeong) are still performed today. Whereas during the King Sejong period the court made an effort to improve court music that corresponds to the Chinese system, during the Akhakgwebeom period the court established its own system and criteria, which were maintained throughout the Joseon period despite changes in size and structure. The significance of Akhakgwebeom is that it discussed the instrumentation of that period systematically and synthetically. The study of the changes and transmission of instrumentation will be remained for future research.

Mulberry and Peach portrays a Chinese woman’s forced diasporic experiences across China, Taiwan, and the U.S. during and after WW II. As a diasporic text it differs from other diaspora-related discourses such as ethnocentric texts and immigration ones. Far from any fantasies of centrism, the novel focuses on two things: revealing the material history of a diaspora as it was and exposing the mechanism of various logocentric ideologies that territorialize the diasporic body in a molecular way. The first results in the faithful portrayal of a female diaspora, Mulberry, as her real body experiences a variety of diasporic circumstances including wars, escapes, containment, and interrogations, which have been persistently denied by host countries as a site of disavowal and fetishism. The second, the exposition of ideological mechanism, also helps to demythify and disfranchise the Other. As Mulberry’s body traverses national boundaries, it turns out to be continually subjected to the policing forces exerted by national ideologies. Neither Communist nor Nationalist China is an exception. All nation-states employ varying categories such as gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity to territorialize Mulberry’s body. Mulberry, as a female diaspora, finds no logos at all to be able to identify herself with including her own homeland.

남성패션의 변천 및 특성에 관한 연구 - 1890년대 부터 2차 세계대전 직후까지 -

The purpose of this study was to identify the change and characteristics of 20th men`s fashion. The result of the Study as follows; 1. In the period 1890`s-World War I there was a display of opulence and extravagance. Therefore men`s fashion pursued with elegance and grace. The rise of sports and an erosion of rules of Victorian society were evident influences before 1914. So men`s silhouette resembled athletic appearance and less formality was shown in masculine attire. 2. During the period World War I-1920`s the new equality of social relations between the sexes had an influence in fashion. Unisex look evolved so boyish shaped became the feminine ideal, men wanted to boyish fitted leaner stylings and natural shoulder suits. In the twenties youth, who seemed to have a social dominance, asserted their own testes in fashion. New style of men`s fashion such as oxford bags and Ivy League Look appeared. After World War I comfort is the aim of fashion so casualness was reflected in fashion: vests often were discarded and man wore a soft, detachable collars. 3. In the thirties depression marked a shift in mood from gaiety and progressivism of the twenties to the conservative, even reactionary values. The role of men and women returned to more traditional attitudes.Every men`s general appearance was bold and manly: his chest was broad and well-built, his shoulders square and muscular. The effects of World War II were not on style but on textiles and clothing construction: lighter weight fabrics appeared and construction was simplified. 4. Men`s dress changed only in detail and not in essence. But there was a continued increase in the variety of clothes and color in men`s fashion. 5. The casual look, the prototype of informal, functional and nonspecialized attire, is a most impotant phenomenon of the 20th men`s fashion, It is rooted in the general rise of sports, the revolt of youth and war.
