Rates of the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide by copper(Ⅱ)-Schiff base complexes were measured at various concentrations of hydrogen peroxide. Decomposition rates of hydrogen peroxide increased with increasing pH for CuⅡBSDT and CuⅡBSTP but then decreased with the same variation of the pH for CuⅡBSTT. A possible mechanism in accord with experimental results was proposed. The mechanism involves the deprotonation of copper(Ⅱ)-Schiff base complexes of hydrogen peroxide, followed by the formation of peroxo complexes at the rate-determining step.

The rates for the oxidation reaction of l-ascorbic acid by Cu(Ⅱ)-polyamine complexes were measured by Onish's method at the pH 4.6. The oxidation process of l-ascorbic acid is proposed to occur by the inner-sphere mechanism that involves the formation of a Cu(Ⅱ)-ascorbic acid complex and electron transfer at the rate-determining step.

Multidentate N,O-containing ligands, such as N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-ethylenediamine(BHED), N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-propylenediamine(BHPD), N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-diethylenetriamine(BHDT), N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-triethylenetriamine(BHTT) and N,N'-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-tetraethylenepentaamine (BHTP) were synthesized by reduction of the imine group of Bis(salicylidene)-ethylendiamine(BSED), Bis (salicylidene)-propylenediamine(BSPD), Bis(salicylidene)-diethylentriamine(BSDT), Bis(salicylidene)-triethylenetetraamine(BSTT) and Bis(salicylidene)-tetraethylenepentaamine(BSTP). Proton dissociation constants of the ligands and stability constants of transition metal(Ⅱ) ion complexes with BHED, BHPD, BHDT, BHTT, and BHTP were determined by potentiometic titration. The sequence of stability constants $(logK_{ML})$ of complex increases as BHED<BHPD<BHDT<BHTT<BHTP as the number of donor atom increases. The order of stability constant for the transition metal ions is CO(Ⅱ)<Ni(Ⅱ)<Cu(Ⅱ)> Zn(Ⅱ) which follows the Irving-Williams series.

질소-산소계 여섯 자리 리간드들의 전이금속이온 착물에 대한 전위차법 연구

The open-chain hexadentate N$_4$, O$_2$ ligands 1,13-bis(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,5,9,12-tetraazatridecane-tetrahydrochloride (BSATD${\cdot}$4HCl) and 1,14-bis (2-hydroxybenzyl)-2,6,9,12-tetraazatetradecane-tetrahydrochloride (BSATED${\cdot}$ 4HCl) have been synthesized as their tetrahydrochloride salt and characterized by EA, IR, NMR and Mass. Their proton dissociation constants(log$K^{n}_{H}$) and stability constants(log$K_{ML}$) for Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), and Zn(II) ions were determined in aqueous solution by potentiometry and compared with those of analogous N$_4$, O$_2$ ligands contain ethylenic spacers or propylenic spacers, which make six-membered chelate rings between the aliphatic nitrogen atoms. Synthesis and characterization of [Cu(BSATD)]ClO$_4$ and [Cu(BSATED)](ClO$_4$)$_2$ complexes are described.

Objectives:Far-infrared (FIR) lights have been investigated for sleep quality intervention. We sought to measure the advantageous effects of FIR in sleep using polysomnographic data as the objective outcomes. Methods:The ten healthy volunteers were enrolled in a single-center, prospective, patient-blind, single-arm trial. Individuals slept on a sham mattress and a FIR emitting mattress with polysomnography for one night each. Results:Sleep efficiency showed an increasing trend but was not statistically significant. PSQI-K significantly decreased (p=0.013). The latency to REM of the baseline was shorter than that of the intervention (p=0.008). Though there was no statistical significance, Stage N1 and N2 were shortened, and Stage N3 was prolonged after the intervention compared to the baseline. Conclusions:The FIR-emitting mattresses improved sleep quality on self-reported insomnia. We suggested the candidate for the markers altered by the FIR therapy, such as the normalization of REM latency and increased N3 sleep.


여러자리 시프 염기 리간드와 구리(Ⅱ) 착물의 합성과 성질

The novel Schiff base hexadentate ligand, bis-(salicylaldehyde)-triethylentetramine (BSTT) and heptadentate ligand, bis-(salicylaldehyde)-tetraethylenpentamine(BSTP) were synthesized by the reaction of salicylaldehydes with triethylenetetramine and tetraethylenepentamine, having four and five nitrogen atoms, respectively. These liquid Schiff base ligands were become in form of the pale-yellow crystals in the specific pH 4.0 by adding acetic acid concentrated hydrochloric acid. The Cu(Ⅱ) complexes of the Schiff bases were synthesized by reaction of the Schiff base with Cu(Ⅱ) ion and their possible structures were proposed by several analytical data, and physical and chemical properties.
