          A Feasibility Study Evaluating Standards for Covered-Positions Built with Concrete Materials

          In terms of protective engineering, there are no noticeable researches regarding covered-positions for smaller units in South Korea. So, standards to maintain and build protective facilities for larger units have been applied in ones for smaller units without any adjustment. The previous study was to calculate penetration depth of the concrete walls because the experiment performed indoor. In this outdoor experiment, velocity of projectile impact as one of the other important factors was considered to prove the validity of 30cm concrete wall thickness as effective protective level of the covered-position. Random effects and extraneous variables which could be occurred in outdoors experiment were controlled with statistical techniques. As a result, velocity of projectile impact was significant variable and the given standard, 30cm thickness of concrete walls was as valid as ever.

          The Multiple Traveling Purchaser Problem for Minimizing the Maximal Acquisition Completion Time in Wartime

          In war time, minimizing the logistics response time for supporting military operations is strongly needed. In this paper, i propose the mathematical formulation for minimizing the maximal acquisition completion time in wartime or during a state of emergency. The main structure of this formulation is based on the traveling purchaser problem (TPP), which is a generalized form of the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP). In the case of the general TPP, an objective function is to minimize the sum of the traveling cost and the purchase cost. However, in this study, the objective function is to minimize the traveling cost only. That's why it's more important to minimize the traveling cost (time or distance) than the purchase cost in wartime or in a state of emergency. I generate a specific instance and find out the optimal solution of this instance by using ILOG OPL STUDIO (CPLEX version 11.1).

          A New Analytical Method for Location Estimation Using the Directional Data

          This paper presents a new analytical method for estimating the location of a target using directional data. Based on a nonlinear programming (NLP) problem formulated for the line method, which is a well known algorithm for two-dimensional location estimation, we present a method to find an optimal solution for the problem. Then we present a two-stage method for better location estimation based on the NLP problem. In addition, another two-stage method is presented for location estimation problems in which different types of observers are used to obtain directional data based on the analysis of the maximum likelihood estimate of the target location. The performance of the suggested method is evaluated through simulation experiments, and results show that the two-stage method is computationally efficient and highly accurate.

          Aerodynamics of a 2-D Flat-plate Airfoil with Tripwire

          In this paper, we experimentally investigated the effects of attached cylindrical tripwires on the aerodynamic performance. The research was carried out with a simple two-dimensional (2-D) rectangular airfoil fabricated from thin flat-plate aluminium, with elliptical leading and trailing edges. Tripwires of varying widths and thicknesses, and attack angles of $-5^{\circ}{\sim}20^{\circ}$ were used to investigate the aerodynamic characteristics (e.g. lift and drag forces) of the airfoil. We found that attaching the tripwires to the lower surface of the airfoil enhanced the lift force and increased the lift-to-drag ratio for low attack angles. However, attaching the tripwires to the upper surface tended to have the opposite effects. Moreover, we found that attaching the tripwires to the trailing edge had similar effects as a Gurney flap. The aerodynamic characteristics of the flat-plate airfoil with tripwires can be used to develop passive control devices for aircraft wings in order to increase their aerodynamic performance when gliding at low attack angles.

          Scheduling for Military Training of Serials with Partial Precedence Relationships based on the Assignment Problem

          This paper focuses on a scheduling problem of military training. Repetitive and identical training over multiple serials is a common type of military education. A simple but systematic method is suggested to determine a training schedule for small groups divided from each serial. A satisfactory training schedule and the number of such small groups can be determined by iteratively solving assignment problems with additional constraints. With this method, loads of instructors can also be balanced without violating constraints associated with precedence and continuity relationships among lectures.

          A Broadband Active Composite Dipole Antenna for Direction-finding Applications at V/UHF-band

          A compact broadband active composite dipole antenna for direction finding system at the V/UHF-band is presented. It uses the composite structure which improves the antenna gain and the active circuit for broadband operation. This type of antenna has a high gain more than that of one dipole antenna within limited length(1m). The basic design and performance of both antenna structure and integrated active circuit are presented.

          Characteristics of Supersonic Nozzle and Jet Impingement

          Viscous solutions of supersonic side jet nozzle and supersonic jet impinging on a flat plate are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. For rapid and abrupt control of a missile in supersonic flight, side jet on a missile body is found to be a useful devise as evidenced by recent missile development at several nations. The magnitude of the side jet and the duration of it decide the level of control of such a missile system. The aerodynamic characteristics of the side jet devise itself are examined in terms of key parameters such as the side jet nozzle geometry, the chamber pressure and temperature. On the other hand, the jet impinging flow structure exhibits such complex nature as shock shell, plate shock and Mach disk depending on the flow parameters. Among others, the dominant parameters are the ratio of the nozzle exit pressure to the ambient pressure and the distance between the nozzle exit plane and the impinging plane. As the plate is placed close to the nozzle, the computed wall pressure at or near the jet center oscillates with large amplitude with respect to the mean value. The amplitude of wall pressure fluctuations subsides as the plate/nozzle distance increases, and the frequency of the wall pressure is estimated on the order of 10.0 KHz. Objectives of this paper are to show accurate simulation of nozzle flow itself and to demonstrate the jet flow structure when the jet interacts with a wall at a close range.

          Optimum Replacement Intervals Considering Salvage Values In Random Time Horizon

          An optimization problem to obtain the optimal replacement interval considering the salvage values is studied. The system is minimally repaired at failure and is replaced by new one at age T(periodic replacement policy with minimal repair of Barlow and Hunter〔2〕). Our model assumes that the time horizon associated with the number of replacements is random The total expected cost considering the salvage values with random time horizon is obtained and the optimal replacement interval minimizing the cost is found by numerical methods. Comparisons between non-considered salvage values and this case are made by a numerical example.

          Higher Order Axismmetric Boundary Element Analysis of Turbine Rotor Disk of the Small Turbojet Engine

          일반적인 선형 탄성해석 경계 요소법이 초 고속 회전과 정상 열전도에 의한 열 탄성 효과가 고려된 문제에 적용되었다. 축대칭 경계 요소법 구성이 요약되었고, 등가 경계 적분 방정식의 물체력 핵 함수의 체적 적분 전환방법에 일반화된 내적과 벡터 연산법 개념이 도입되었다. 고차 경계 요소 적용을 위한 이산화 수치 해석법이 요약되었고, 소형 젯트 엔진(ADD 500)의 터어빈 로우터 디스크의 해석 결과가 유한 요소해와 비교되었다. The BEM for linear elastic stress analysis is applied to the highly rotating axisymmetric body problem which also involves the thermoelastic effects due to steady-state thermal conduction. The axisymmetric BEM formulation is briefly summarized and an alternative approach for transforming the volume integrals associated with such body force kernels into equivalent boundary integrals is described in a way of using the concept of inner product and vector identity. A discretization scheme for higher order BE is outlined for numerical treatment of the resulting boundary integral equations, and it is consequently illustrated by determining the stress distributions of the turbine rotor disk of the small turbojet engine(ADD 500) for which a FEM stress solution has been furnished by author.

          HLA/RTI based on the Simulation Composition Technology

          In defense domain, mission level and engagement level simulation tools exist. In order to experiment a simulation scenario for obtaining results of both mission level and engagement level simulations, we should write a same simulation scenario in a mission level simulation tool as well as an engagement level simulation tool, and we have to operate these tools for analysis of each purpose. Moreover, we could not guarantee that these scenarios are completely same since each scenario is composed of different fidelities of simulation models, although the scenarios are written by a same experimenter and with same simulation purpose. To deal with the difficulties, I propose an approach to analysis of both mission level and engagement level simulations from one simulation result. For this, I have built Composite Combat Mission Planning Simulation Environment (CCMPSE). In this paper, the HLA/RTI based simulation composition technology and my experiences for the designed Composite Combat Mission Planning Simulation Control System (CCMPSCS) are explained. Moreover, This paper also conducts a case study with EADSIM, SADM, and the CCMPSCS. Finally, this paper provides lesson learned from the case study.
