김석봉,강영철,이필재,백상호,박영준,우즈 폴,Kim, Suk-Bong,Kang, Young-Chul,Lee, Pil-Jae,Baek, Sang-Ho,Park, Young-Jun,Woods, Paul The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2009 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.12 No.5
In terms of protective engineering, there are no noticeable researches regarding covered-positions for smaller units in South Korea. So, standards to maintain and build protective facilities for larger units have been applied in ones for smaller units without any adjustment. The previous study was to calculate penetration depth of the concrete walls because the experiment performed indoor. In this outdoor experiment, velocity of projectile impact as one of the other important factors was considered to prove the validity of 30cm concrete wall thickness as effective protective level of the covered-position. Random effects and extraneous variables which could be occurred in outdoors experiment were controlled with statistical techniques. As a result, velocity of projectile impact was significant variable and the given standard, 30cm thickness of concrete walls was as valid as ever.

In war time, minimizing the logistics response time for supporting military operations is strongly needed. In this paper, i propose the mathematical formulation for minimizing the maximal acquisition completion time in wartime or during a state of emergency. The main structure of this formulation is based on the traveling purchaser problem (TPP), which is a generalized form of the well-known traveling salesman problem (TSP). In the case of the general TPP, an objective function is to minimize the sum of the traveling cost and the purchase cost. However, in this study, the objective function is to minimize the traveling cost only. That's why it's more important to minimize the traveling cost (time or distance) than the purchase cost in wartime or in a state of emergency. I generate a specific instance and find out the optimal solution of this instance by using ILOG OPL STUDIO (CPLEX version 11.1).

이호주,이영일,박용운,Lee, Ho-Joo,Lee, Young-Il,Park, Yong-Woon The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2009 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.12 No.6
In this paper, a new user interface for unmanned combat vehicle(UCV) is developed based on the mission planning and global path planning. In order to complete a tactical mission given to an UCV, it is essential to design an effective interface scheme between human and UCV considering changing combat environment and characteristics of the mission. The user interface is mainly composed of two parts, mission planning and global path planning, since they are important factors to accomplish combat missions. First of all, mission types of UCV are identified. Based on mission types, the concept of mission planning for UCVs is presented. Then a new method for global path planning is devised. It is capable of dealing with multiple grid maps to consider various combat factors so that paths suitable for the mission be generated. By combining these two, a user interface method is suggested. It is partially implemented in the Dog-horse Robot of ADD and its effectiveness is verified.
A Data Hiding Method of Binary Images Using Pixel-value Weighting
정기현,Jung, Ki-Hyun The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2008 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.11 No.4
This paper proposes a new data hiding method for binary images using the weighting value of pixel-value differencing. The binary cover image is partitioned into non-overlapping sub-blocks and find the most suitable position to embed a secret bit for each sub-block. The proposed method calculates the weighted value for a sub-block to pivot a pixel to be changed. This improves the image quality of the stego-image. The experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good visual quality and high capacity.
Characteristics of Supersonic Nozzle and Jet Impingement
Hong, Seung-Kyu,Lee, Kwang-Seop,Sung, Woong-Je The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2001 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.4 No.2
Viscous solutions of supersonic side jet nozzle and supersonic jet impinging on a flat plate are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. For rapid and abrupt control of a missile in supersonic flight, side jet on a missile body is found to be a useful devise as evidenced by recent missile development at several nations. The magnitude of the side jet and the duration of it decide the level of control of such a missile system. The aerodynamic characteristics of the side jet devise itself are examined in terms of key parameters such as the side jet nozzle geometry, the chamber pressure and temperature. On the other hand, the jet impinging flow structure exhibits such complex nature as shock shell, plate shock and Mach disk depending on the flow parameters. Among others, the dominant parameters are the ratio of the nozzle exit pressure to the ambient pressure and the distance between the nozzle exit plane and the impinging plane. As the plate is placed close to the nozzle, the computed wall pressure at or near the jet center oscillates with large amplitude with respect to the mean value. The amplitude of wall pressure fluctuations subsides as the plate/nozzle distance increases, and the frequency of the wall pressure is estimated on the order of 10.0 KHz. Objectives of this paper are to show accurate simulation of nozzle flow itself and to demonstrate the jet flow structure when the jet interacts with a wall at a close range.

Current paper investigates the dynamic behavior and stability of an infrared search and track subjected to external disturbance having gimbal structure with three rotating axes keeping constant angular velocity in the azimuth direction. Euler-Lagrange equation is applied to derive the coupled nonlinear dynamic equation of motion of infrared search and track and the characteristics of dynamic coupling are investigated. Two equilibrium points with small variations from the nonlinear coupling system are derived and the specific condition from which a coupled equation can be three independent equations is derived. Finally, to examine the stability of system, Lyapunov direct method was used and system stability and stability boundaries are investigated.

허길환,이원,권기상,Heo, Gilhwan,Lee, Won,Kwon, Kisang The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2015 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.18 No.5
The purpose of this research is to propose a maintenance support system for deciding assembly sequence of the product and appropriate tools that are used to assembly and disassembly of parts in the product when geometric properties of the product. The digital maintenance system (DMS) is developed to generate the maintenance guideline and the initial experiment is conducted especially for an underwater weapon system with cylindrical structure. DMS considers four factors to find the efficient assembly and disassembly procedure automatically: (1) assembly tree, (2) properties of each part, (3) distance from the center of the product, and (4) volume. Based on the factors, DMS simulate the movement of each tool virtually and the properties of tools are investigated to find an appropriate tool for using assembly and disassembly of each part in the product. The proposed approach integrates modeling, simulation, data configuration, and virtual reality to allow a development of preliminary maintenance guidance.
A New Analytical Method for Location Estimation Using the Directional Data
이호주,김영대,박철순,Lee Ho-Joo,Kim Yeong-Dae,Park Cheol-Sun The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2004 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.7 No.4
This paper presents a new analytical method for estimating the location of a target using directional data. Based on a nonlinear programming (NLP) problem formulated for the line method, which is a well known algorithm for two-dimensional location estimation, we present a method to find an optimal solution for the problem. Then we present a two-stage method for better location estimation based on the NLP problem. In addition, another two-stage method is presented for location estimation problems in which different types of observers are used to obtain directional data based on the analysis of the maximum likelihood estimate of the target location. The performance of the suggested method is evaluated through simulation experiments, and results show that the two-stage method is computationally efficient and highly accurate.
A Study on a New Carrier Recovery Algorithm for Coherent Burst-mode Communication Systems
박성복,Park, Sung-Bok The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2011 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.14 No.6
In this paper, a newsynchronization technique applied to burst-mode communication is proposed. A synchronization technique is to estimate carrier frequency and phase offsets in a noisy channel environment. A fundamental problem for estimating the parameters(carrier phase and frequency offsets) in burst-mode transmission is that the ways of pursuing estimation accuracy and transmission efficiency are always trade-off. To solve this problem, a new carrier recovery technique is proposed to improve the transmission efficiency with reliable performance especially at low S/N. In the proposed technique, the synchronization parameters are first estimated based on a data-aided feed-forward estimation scheme. Then, a phase tracker using decision-directed DPLL estimates the phase offset for the data portion of the burst data. From simulation results, it shows fast synchronization with shorter preamble maintaining reasonable BER performance at low S/N.
Image Steganographic Method using Variable Length for Data Embedding
정기현,Jung, Ki-Hyun The Korea Institute of Military Science and Techno 2008 한국군사과학기술학회지 Vol.11 No.3
Wu and Tsai's pixel-value differencing method and Chang and Tseng's side-match method are based on the theory that the number of bits which can be embedded is determined by the degree of the pixel's smoothness, or its proximity to the edge of the image. If pixels are located in the edge area, they may tolerate larger changes than those in smooth areas. However, both methods are subject to the fall off the boundary problem(FOBP). This study proposes a new scheme that can solve the FOBP. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method resolves the problem, and achieves a higher image quality index value than other methods.
