In this paper, we propose the bandpass form of discrete prolate spheroidal sequences(DPSS) which have the maximal energy concentration in a given passband and as such are very appropriate to obtain a projection of signals. The basic properties of the bandpass DPSS are also presented. Assuming a signal satisfies the finite time support and the essential band-limitedness conditions with a known center frequency, signal representation and interpolation techniques for band-limited signals using the bandpass DPSS are introduced where the reconstructed signal has minimal out-of-band energy. Simulation results are given to present the usefulness of the bandpass DPSS for efficient representation of band-limited signal.
Design of Tree Architecture of Fuzzy Controller based on Genetic Optimization

As the number of input and fuzzy set of a fuzzy system increase, the size of the rule base increases exponentially and becomes unmanageable (curse of dimensionality). In this paper, tree architectures of fuzzy controller (TAFC) is proposed to overcome the curse of dimensionality problem occurring in the design of fuzzy controller. TAFC is constructed with the aid of AND and OR fuzzy neurons. TAFC can guarantee reduced size of rule base with reasonable performance. For the development of TAFC, genetic algorithm constructs the binary tree structure by optimally selecting the nodes and leaves, and then random signal-based learning further refines the binary connections (two-step optimization). An inverted pendulum system is considered to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method by simulation.

Connected component labeling (CCL) is a mandatory step in image segmentation where objects are extracted and uniquely labeled. CCL is a computationally expensive operation and thus is often done in parallel processing framework to reduce execution time. Various parallel CCL methods have been proposed in the literature. Among them are NSZ label equivalence (NSZ-LE) method, modified 8 directional label selection (M8DLS) method, HYBRID1 method, and HYBRID2 method. Soh et al. showed that HYBRID2 outperforms the others and is the best so far. In this paper we propose a new hybrid parallel CCL algorithm termed as HYBRID3 that combines selective four directional label search (S4DLS) with label backtracking (LB). We show that the average percentage speedup of the proposed over M8DLS is around 60% more than that of HYBRID2 over M8DLS for various kinds of images.
Fast Outlier Removal for Image Registration based on Modified K-means Clustering

Outlier detection and removal is a crucial step needed for various image processing applications such as image registration. Random Sample Consensus (RANSAC) is known to be the best algorithm so far for the outlier detection and removal. However RANSAC requires a cosiderable computation time. To drastically reduce the computation time while preserving the comparable quality, a outlier detection and removal method based on modified K-means is proposed. The original K-means was conducted first for matching point pairs and then cluster merging and member exclusion step are performed in the modification step. We applied the methods to various images with highly repetitive patterns under several geometric distortions and obtained successful results. We compared the proposed method with RANSAC and showed that the proposed method runs 3~10 times faster than RANSAC.

본 논문은 혼합 $H_2/H_{\infty}$ 제어를 이용한 강인한 서보시스템의 설계법을 제안하고 이것을 3관성 벤치마크문제에 적용하여 이 방법의 유용성을 확인한다. 먼저 내부모델의 원리를 이용하여 혼합 $H_2/H_{\infty}$ 제어기법을 적용할 수 있는 구조를 제안하고 이 구조의 타당성을 검토한다. 다음에 강인한 서보시스템의 설계조건을 각각 $H_2$ 및 $H_{\infty}$의 설계사양으로 분리한 뒤 제안된 혼합 $H_2/H_{\infty}$ 설계법에 적용하여 설계를 LMI이론에 의하여 실행한다. 마지막으로 3관성벤치마크 문제에서 부가된 몇 가지의 사양을 제안된 혼합 $H_2/H_{\infty}$법에 맞도록 수정한 뒤 제어기의 설계를 통한 설계사양의 만족도를 확인한다. The purpose of this paper is to propose an approach to design a robust servo controller based on the mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ theory, and confirm its validity by applying to a benchmark problem. First, the existing $H_{\infty}$ servo problem is modified to a structure for the mixed $H_2/H_{\infty}$ control problem by virtue of the internal model principle. By making use of proposed structure, we can divide specifications required in the robust servo system design into $H_2$ and $H_{\infty}$ performance criteria, respectively. It is shown that the proposed design approach is quite effective through an application to a three inertia benchmark problem.
VLSI Implementation for the MPDSAP Adaptive Filter

A new implementation method for MPDSAP(Maximally Polyphase Decomposed Subband Affine Projection) adaptive filter is proposed. The affine projection(AP) adaptive filter achieves fast convergence speed, however, its implementation is so expensive because of the matrix inversion for a weight-updating of adaptive filter. The maximally polyphase decomposed subband filtering allows the AP adaptive filter to avoid the matrix inversion, moreover, by using a pipelining technique, the simple subband structured AP is suitable for VLSI implementations concerning throughput, power dissipation and area. Computer simulations are presented to verify the performance of the proposed algorithm.
Interactive Rehabilitation Support System for Dementia Patients

This paper presents the preliminary study of an interactive rehabilitation support system for both dementia patients and their caregivers, the goal of which is to improve the quality of life(QOL) of the patients suffering from dementia through virtual interaction. To achieve the virtual interaction, three kinds of recognition modules for speech, facial image and pen-mouse gesture are studied. The results of both practical tests and questionnaire surveys show that the proposed system had to be further improved, especially in both speech recognition and user interface for real-world applications. The surveys also revealed that the pen-mouse gesture recognition, as one of possible interactive aids, show us a probability to support weakness of speech recognition.
A 10-Lead Long Duration Ambulatory ECG Design -Minimizing power consumption-

The ECG(Electrocardiograph) ambulatory test as called Holter is performed usually to diagnose several heart diseases causing different arrhythmias. This paper exposes the insights of the design of a 10-lead ambulatory ECG recorder. Reducing the size and minimizing the power consumption of the ECG recorder are crucial to allow long recording time without causing discomfort to the patient. This paper proposes lower hardware design and differential compression algorithm to extend the maximum 72 hours recording time in consideration of smaller and light-weighted recorder size. The performance results by newly introduced compression algorithm are shown and discussed.
An Improved Hybrid Approach to Parallel Connected Component Labeling using CUDA

In many image processing tasks, connected component labeling (CCL) is performed to extract regions of interest. CCL was usually done in a sequential fashion when image resolution was relatively low and there are small number of input channels. As image resolution gets higher up to HD or Full HD and as the number of input channels increases, sequential CCL is too time-consuming to be used in real time applications. To cope with this situation, parallel CCL framework was introduced where multiple cores are utilized simultaneously. Several parallel CCL methods have been proposed in the literature. Among them are NSZ label equivalence (NSZ-LE) method[1], modified 8 directional label selection (M8DLS) method[2], and HYBRID1 method[3]. Soh [3] showed that HYBRID1 outperforms NSZ-LE and M8DLS, and argued that HYBRID1 is by far the best. In this paper we propose an improved hybrid parallel CCL algorithm termed as HYBRID2 that hybridizes M8DLS with label backtracking (LB) and show that it runs around 20% faster than HYBRID1 for various kinds of images.
Fast short length running FIR structure in discrete wavelet adaptive algorithm

An adaptive system is a well-known method for removing noise from noise-corrupted speech. In this paper, we perform a least mean square (LMS) based on wavelet adaptive algorithm. It establishes the faster convergence rate of as compared to time domain because of eigenvalue distribution width. And this paper provides the basic tool required for the FIR algorithm whose algorithm reduces the arithmetic complexity. We consider a new fast short-length running FIR structure in discrete wavelet adaptive algorithm. We compare FIR algorithm and short-length fast running FIR algorithm (SFIR) to the proposed fast short-length running FIR algorithm(FSFIR) for arithmetic complexities.
