        Evaluation on the Performance of Deep Excavation by Using PIV Technique

        The concern study, present the results of experimental study on the performance of deep excavation by using image processing technique particle image velocimetry (PIV). The purpose of present study is to check the application of PIV for the successive ground deformation during deep excavation. To meet the objectives of concern study, a series of reduce scale model test box experiments are performed by considering the wall stiffness, ground water table effect and ground relative density. The results are presented in form of contour and vector plots and further based on PIV analysis wall and ground displacement profile are drawn. The results of present study, indicate that, the PIV technique is useful to demonstrate the ground deformation zone during the successive ground excavation as the degree of accuracy in PIV analysis and measured results with LVDT are within 1%. Further the vector and contours plot effectively demonstrate the ground behavior under different conditions and the PIV analysis results fully support the measured results.

        Performance Assessment of PVA Geotextile/HDPE Geomembrane Composites

        폐기물 매립지 관련 특성을 조사하기 위하여 PVA 지오텍스타일/HDPE 지오멤브레인 복합재료를 제조하였다. PVA 지오텍스타일의 인장특성, 인열 및 파열강도, 유효구멍크기와 투수성 등을 각각 측정하였다. 또한 침출수에 대한 화학저항성과 자외선 안정성도 측정하였으며, 하중조건에 따른 크리프 변형거동과 마찰특성도 측정하였다. 이들 결과로부터 PVA 지오텍스타일/HDPE 지오멤브레인 복합재료는 일반적으로 폐기물 매립지에 적용되는 폴리프로필렌이나 폴리에스테르 지오텍스타일에 비해 우수한 특성을 나타내었다. 끝으로, 감소인자 분석으로부터 PVA 지오텍스타일/HDPE 지오멤브레인 복합재료의 크리프 변형거동도 폴리프로필렌이나 폴리에스테르 지오텍스타일에 비해 안정함을 알 수 있었다. PVA geotextile/HDPE geomembrane composites were made to examine the waste landfill related properties. Tensile properties, tear and bursting strengths, AOS(apparent opening size) and permittivity of PVA geotextiles were evaluated, respectively. Ultraviolet stability and chemical resistance to the leachate was evaluated also. Friction property and creep deformation were tested at various loading condition. From this, it was seen that PVA geotextile/HDPE geomembrane composites have more excellent properties than the typically used polypropylene and polyester geotextiles in waste landfill. Finally, creep deformation behaviours of PVA geotextile/HDPE geomembrane composites were more stable than polypropylene and polyester geotextiles through the reduction factor analysis.

        EPS 회복탄성계수 모델을 이용한 연성포장설계의 해석적 연구

        본 연구의 연성포장설계의 해석적 연구를 위해 연성포장설계에 이용되는 EPS 지오폼 회복탄성계수 모델이 고안되어 노상층이 EPS 블럭인 연성포장의 수직방향 변형크기를 예측하기위한 프로그램인 RMEG 에 이용되었다. RMEG 프로그램은 EPS 지오폼의 노상층이 설계된 기한동안 얼마나 침하 하는지와 AASHTO 연성포장설계방정식에 의해 평가된 신뢰도 70%로 주어진 교통하중에 도로구조체가 얼마나 오랫동안 심각한 도로파손 없이 지탱하는지를 보여주었다. 그 결과, EPS 노상층의 예측 수직변형은 20.6년 동안 5mm 이하로 EPS 지오폼은 일반토사의 대체물로써 하자가 없음을 나타냈다. The resilient modulus model of EPS geofoam to be used for a flexible pavement design was developed. In this study, the model was applied to design the flexible pavement and to predict the magnitude of the deformation of EPS geofoam blocks as a subgrade in the flexible pavement structure by using the resilient modulus model of EPS geofoam (RMEG) program. The RMEG program presented how much the EPS geofoam subgrade settled over the designed duration and the AASHTO flexible pavement design equation with the resilient modulus of EPS geofoam noted that how long the flexible pavement endured under traffic loads with 70% reliability for the estimated duration with less than 5mm vertical deformation during 20.6 years without the significant pavement distress as a substitute material for the natural soils.

        Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based Deep Excavation Designed Program

        This paper presents the development and implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based deep excavation induced wall and ground displacements and wall support member forces prediction program (ANN-EXCAV). The program has been developed in a C# environment by using the well-known AI technique artificial neural network (ANN). Program used ANN to predict the induced displacement, groundwater drawdown and wall and support member forces parameters for deep excavation project and run the stability check by comparing predict values to the calculated allowable values. Generalised ANNs were trained to predict the said parameters through databases generated by numerical analysis for cases that represented real field conditions. A practical example to run the ANN-EXCAV is illustrated in this paper. Results indicate that the program efficiently performed the calculations with a considerable accuracy, so it can be handy and robust tool for preliminary design of wall and support members for deep excavation project.

        Development of AI-based Prediction and Assessment Program for Tunnelling Impact

        In this paper the development and implementation of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based Tunnelling Impact prediction and assessment program (SKKU-iTunnel) is presented. Program predicts tunnelling induced surface settlement and groundwater drawdown by utilizing well trained ANNs and uses these predicted values to perform the damage assessment likely to occur in nearby structures and pipelines/utilities for a given tunnel problem. Generalised artificial neural networks (ANNs) were trained, to predict the induced parameters, through databases generated by combining real field data and numerical analysis for cases that represented real field conditions. It is shown that program equipped with carefully trained ANN can predict tunnel impact assessments and perform damage assessments quiet efficiently and comparable accuracy to that of numerical analysis. This paper describes the idea and implementation details of the SKKU-iTunnel with an example for demonstration.

        Mechanical Mechanism of Main Tunnels and Cross Passage Construction - A 3D Numerical Investigation

        This paper presents the results of a three-dimensional numerical investigation into the mechanical mechanism of main tunnels and cross passage construction. Aimed at the complex space structure composed of two main tunnels and cross passage, 3D numerical model of the structure and surrounding rock was built to analyze the influence. Comparative analysis of different buried depths were carried out. The results of the study indicate that the stress concentration was occurred in the intersecting linings, especially in the opening side lining, which leads to an unfavorable form of force that is pulled up by the upper and lower sections in the intersecting linings due to the construction of the cross passage. The excavation of the cross passage also destroys the stability of the original soil layer and causes settlement of the surface and main tunnels. Practical implications of the findings are discussed.
