FPGA implementation of overhead reduction algorithm for interspersed redundancy bits using EEDC
Kim, Hi-Seok Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2017 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.16 No.4
Normally, in data transmission, extra parity bits are added to the input message which were derived from its input and a pre-defined algorithm. The same algorithm is used by the receiver to check the consistency of the delivered information, to determine if it is corrupted or not. It recovers and compares the received information, to provide matching and correcting the corrupted transmitted bits if there is any. This paper aims the following objectives: to use an alternative error detection-correction method, to lessens both the fixed number of the required redundancy bits 'r' in cyclic redundancy checking (CRC) because of the required polynomial generator and the overhead of interspersing the r in Hamming code. The experimental results were synthesized using Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA and showed a significant increase in both the transmission rate and detection of random errors. Moreover, this proposal can be a better option for detecting and correcting errors.
Implementation of Wireless Power Transfer Circuit by Using Magnetic Resonant Coupling Method
Lho, Young-Hwan Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2019 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.23 No.1
Wireless charging is a technology of transmitting power through an air gap to an electrical load for the purpose of energy dissemination. Compared to traditional charging with code, wireless power charging has many benefits of avoiding the hassle from connecting cables, rendering the design and fabrication of much smaller devices without the attachment of batteries, providing flexibility for devices, and enhancing energy efficiency, etc. A transmitting coil and a receiving coil for inductive coupling or magnetic resonant coupling methods are available for the near field techniques, but are not for the far field one. In this paper, the wireless power transfer (WPT) circuit by using magnetic resonant coupling method with a resonant frequency of 13.45 Mhz for the low power system is implemented to measure the power transmission efficiency in terms of mutual distance and omnidirectional angles of receiver.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) has been considered for the fifth generation (5G) mobile networks to provide high system capacity and low latency. We calculate the channel capacity for the weak channel user in NOMA and the channel capacity region for NOMA. In this paper, Gaussian mixture channel is compared to the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Gaussian mixture channel is modeled when we assume the practical signal modulation for the inter user interference, such as the binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation. It is shown that the channel capacity with BPSK inter user interference is better than that with Gaussian inter user interference. We also show that the channel capacity region with BPSK inter user interference is larger than that with Gaussian inter user interference. As a result, NOMA could perform better in the practical environments.
A Novel Negative-Output High Step-up Ratio DC-DC Converter Based on Switched-Inductor Cell
Kim, Ho-Yeon,Moon, Eun-A,Nguyen, Minh-Khai Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2019 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.23 No.1
A high boost dc-dc converter based on the switched-inductor cell (SL-cell) is suggested in this paper. The suggested converter can provide a high voltage gain that is more than 6. Moreover, the voltage gain can be easily increased by extending a SL cell or a modular voltage boost stage. This paper shows the key waveforms, the operating principles at the continuous conduction mode (CCM), and a comparison between the suggested converter and the other non-isolated converters. In addition, the extension of the suggested converter is presented. The simulation results were shown to reconfirm the theoretical analysis.

Lee, Bok-Hyung,Park, Byung-Jun,Choi, Sun-Youl,Lim, Byeong-Ok,Go, Joo-Seoc,Kim, Sung-Chan Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2019 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.23 No.1
In this paper, we demonstrated a power amplifier monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) for X-band radar applications. It utilizes commercial $0.25{\mu}m$ GaN-based high electron mobility transistor (HEMT) technology and delivers more than 20 W of output power. The developed GaN-based power amplifier MMIC has small signal gain of over 22 dB and saturated output power of over 43.3 dBm (21.38 W) in a pulse operation mode with pulse width of $200{\mu}s$ and duty cycle of 4% over the entire band of 9 to 10 GHz. The chip dimensions are $3.5mm{\times}2.3mm$, generating the output power density of $2.71W/mm^2$. Its power added efficiency (PAE) is 42.6-50.7% in the frequency bandwidth from 9 to 10 GHz. The developed GaN-based power amplifier MMIC is expected to be applied in a variety of X-band radar applications.
Performance Analysis of NOMA with Symmetric Superposition Coding
Chung, Kyuhyuk Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2019 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.23 No.1
Recently, the symmetric superposition coding (SSC) [3] is proposed for a solution for the error propagation (EP) due to the non-perfect successive interference cancelation (SIC) in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA). We analyze the performance of NOMA with the SSC. It is shown that the performance of the SSC NOMA is the same as that of NOMA with the normal superposition coding (NSC) for the power allocation factor less than 20%, the SSC NOMA performance is better than the NSC NOMA performance up to the power allocation factor 80%, and the SSC NOMA performs worse than the NSC NOMA for the power allocation factor greater than 80%. As a result, the SSC should be used with consideration of the power allocation.
A Study on the Enhanced Filtering for the Removal of BEMF in BLDC Motors
Moon, Yu-Sung,Choi, Jae-Hyun,Kim, Jung-Won Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2019 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.23 No.1
This paper used the majority function to digitally filter back-electromotive force as an explanation of the Brushless DC MOTOR control algorithm. The cause and improvement of motor noise, which are operating in close proximity to high frequency sources, did not use conventional low pass filter and comparator elements. Also, they repeatedly output a noise-free BEMF signal for the input value of the majority detection filtering. These filtering steps can help reduce costs and minimize the area of a PCB by requiring relatively little hardware.

Kim, Young-Gi,Hwang, Jae-Yeon Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2016 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.20 No.3
This paper presents a two stage L-band power amplifier realized with a $0.32{\mu}m$ Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology. To overcome a low breakdown voltage limit of MOSFET, stacked-FET structures are employed, where three transistors in the first stage amplifier and four transistors in the second stage amplifier are connected in series so that their output voltage swings are added in phase. The stacked-FET structures enable the proposed amplifier to achieve a 21.5 dB small-signal gain and 15.7 dBm output 1-dB compression power at 1.9 GHz with a 122 mA DC current from a 4 V supply. The amplifier delivers a 19.7 dBm. This paper presents a two stage L-band power amplifier realized with a $0.32{\mu}m$ Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) CMOS technology. We use the open verification methodology(OVM) developed by standard body. We show that our testbench can use random input for test. And also we show that reusability of block level testbench for the integration level testbench, which is very efficient for large scale system like nuclear reactor protection system.
Application of Multi-Class AdaBoost Algorithm to Terrain Classification of Satellite Images
Nguyen, Ngoc-Hoa,Woo, Dong-Min Institute of Korean Electrical and Electronics Eng 2014 전기전자학회논문지 Vol.18 No.4
Terrain classification is still a challenging issue in image processing, especially with high resolution satellite images. The well-known obstacles include low accuracy in the detection of targets, especially for the case of man-made structures, such as buildings and roads. In this paper, we present an efficient approach to classify and detect building footprints, foliage, grass and road from high resolution grayscale satellite images. Our contribution is to build a strong classifier using AdaBoost based on a combination of co-occurrence and Haar-like features. We expect that the inclusion of Harr-like feature improves the classification performance of the man-made structures, since Haar-like feature is extracted from corner features and rectangle features. Also, the AdaBoost algorithm selects only critical features and generates an extremely efficient classifier. Experimental result indicates that the classification accuracy of AdaBoost classifier is much higher than that of the conventional classifier using back propagation algorithm. Also, the inclusion of Harr-like feature significantly improves the classification accuracy. The accuracy of the proposed method is 98.4% for the target detection and 92.8% for the classification on high resolution satellite images.
