      • A CROSS VALIDATION OF CONSUMER-BASED BRAND EQUITY (CBBE) SCALES IN FASHION RETAIL INDUSTRY

        Serta? ?ifci,Y?ksel Ekinci,Georgina Whyatt 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2014 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2014 No.7

The Consumer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE) literature has, in recent years, introduced various CBBE models and measurement scales. This study aims to compare the external validity of the two prominent CBBE models in the fashion retail industry; those introduced by Yoo and Donthu (2011) based on Aaker (1991)’s CBBE concept and Nam et al. (2011). In order to make this comparison, the study collected data from 285 respondents in Turkey. Research findings show that Nam et al.’s (2011) CBBE model is, in the fashion industry context, the more reliable and valid. When the concept of “brand awareness” is included in this model, the psychometric properties of the model are improved.

Confident Diagnosis of Bronchobiliary Fistula Using Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Cholangiography

        Nevzat Karabulut,Vefa Çakmak,Go ¨ksel Kiter 대한영상의학회 2010 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.11 No.4

We report the utility of contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance cholangiography (MRC) using gadoxetic acid (Gd-EOB-DTPA) in the diagnosis of bronchobiliary fistula associated with liver hydatid cyst. Contrast-enhanced MRC clearly delineated the leakage of contrast agent from the biliary duct and its communication with the bronchial tree. Providing functional information about physiologic or pathologic biliary flow in addition to the display of biliary anatomy, contrastenhanced MRC stands as a robust technique in confidently detecting bronchobiliary fistula and bile leaks.

Physicochemical and Microbiological Characterization of Protected Designation of Origin Ezine Cheese: Assessment of Non-starter Lactic Acid Bacterial Diversity with Antimicrobial Activity

        Baş,ar Uymaz,Nefise Akç,elik,Zerrin Yü,ksel 한국축산식품학회 2019 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.39 No.5

Ezine cheese is a non-starter and long-ripened cheese produced in the Mount of Ida region of Çanakkale, Turkey, with a protected designation of origin status. Nonstarter lactic acid bacteria (NSLAB) have a substantial effect on the quality and final sensorial characteristics of long-ripened cheeses. The dominance of NSLAB can be attributed to their high tolerance to the hostile environment in cheese during ripening relative to many other microbial groups and to its ability to inhibit undesired microorganisms. These qualities promote the microbiological stability of long-ripened cheeses. In this study, 144 samples were collected from three dairies during the ripening period of Ezine cheese. Physicochemical composition and NSLAB identification analyses were performed using both conventional and molecular methods. According to the results of a 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, 13 different species belonging to seven genera were identified. Enterococcus faecium (38.42%) and E. faecalis (18.94%) were dominant species during the cheese manufacturing process, surviving 12 months of ripening together with Lactobacillus paracasei (13.68%) and Lb. plantarum (11.05%). The results indicate that NSLAB contributes to the microbiological stability of Ezine cheese over 12 months of ripening. The isolation of NSLAB with antimicrobial activity, potential bacteriocin producers, yielded defined collections of natural NSLAB isolates from Ezine cheese that can be used to generate specific starter cultures for the production of Ezine cheese (PDO).

      • Selection of quorum quenching (QQ) bacteria for membrane biofouling control: effect of different Gram-staining QQ bacteria, <i>Bacillus</i> sp<i>.</i> T5 and <i>Delftia</i> sp<i>.</i> T6, on microbial population in membrane bioreactors

        ,l, Bahar Yavuztü,rk,Imer, Derya Yü,ksel,Park, Pyung-Kyu,Koyuncu, Ismail IWA Publishing 2018 Water Science & Technology Vol.78 No.2

<P>This study aimed to address the gap in understanding how the microbial community present within quorum quenching-membrane bioreactor (QQ-MBRs) changes during the operations by investigating the behavior of two different types of QQ bacteria, <I>Bacillus</I> sp. T5 and <I>Delftia</I> sp. T6. The anti-biofouling effects of T5 and T6 in the QQ-MBR were 85% and 76%, respectively. According to the Illumina HiSeq results, when the QQ-MBR was operated with Gram-positive bacteria, T5, in the mixed liquor a reduction was observed in Gram-positive bacteria and Gram-negative bacteria population increased. In contrast, when the QQ-MBR was operated with Gram-negative bacteria, T6, Gram-negative bacteria population reduced and an increase in Gram-positive bacteria observed. As such, the outputs of the Illumina analysis revealed that use of Gram-negative QQ bacteria in the reactor induced a Gram-positive microbial community and vice versa. This indicates that a close interaction occurs between indigenous Gram-negative and positive bacterial phyla, and <I>Bacillus</I> sp. T5/<I>Delftia</I> sp. T6 is fundamental to the performance of MBRs. This is the first study demonstrating such a relationship and assistance selecting QQ bacteria/strategy in an effective way.</P>

      • Evaluation of a novel anti-biofouling microorganism (<i>Bacillus</i> sp. T5) for control of membrane biofouling and its effect on bacterial community structure in membrane bioreactors

        Yavuztü,rk Gü,l, Bahar,Imer, Derya Yü,ksel,Park, Pyung-Kyu,Koyuncu, Ismail IWA Publishing 2018 Water Science & Technology Vol.77 No.4

<P>The effects of a newly isolated quorum quenching (QQ) bacteria (<I>Bacillus</I> sp. T5) on the microbial community has been evaluated via the Illumina sequencing method. Membrane bioreactors (MBRs) operated with this novel QQ bacterium to evaluate the improvement in the performance of MBR. Anti-biofouling effect of T5 was enhanced as 71% compared to the control reactor. Also, QQ bacteria did not have any negative effect on the removal of organics during the process. Gram-negative bacteria were found to be dominant over Gram-positive bacteria. <I>Proteobacteria</I>, <I>Actinobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Acidobacteria, Firmicutes,</I> and <I>Chloroflexi</I> were dominant phyla in the control and QQ reactors. The proportion of <I>Alphaproteobacteria</I> was most significant among <I>Proteobacteria</I>. The relative abundances of <I>Actinobacteri</I>a, <I>Acidobacteria</I>, and <I>Firmicutes</I> were significantly affected by Quorum quenching mechanism. On the other hand, QQ activity of <I>Bacillus</I> sp. T5 significantly influenced the relative abundance of <I>Proteobacteria</I>, <I>Bacteroidetes</I>, and <I>Chloroflexi</I>. The QQ process appeared to generate variations in the structure of the microbial community. According to the results of the molecular analyses, the syntrophic interaction of <I>Bacillus</I> sp. T5 and indigenous Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial community is critical to the performance of MBRs.</P>

Evaluation of Cholinesterase Inhibitory and Antioxidant Activities of Wild and Cultivated Samples of Sage (Salvia fruticosa) by Activity-Guided Fractionation

        Fatma Sezer Şenol,Ilkay Erdogan Orhan,Sinem Aslan Erdem,Murat Kartal,Bilge Şener,Yu¨ksel Kan,Ferhat Celep,Ahmet Kahraman,Musa Dogan 한국식품영양과학회 2011 Journal of medicinal food Vol.14 No.11

In European folk medicine, Salvia species have traditionally been used to enhance memory. In our previous study of 55 Salvia taxa, we explored significant anticholinesterase activity of cultivated S. fruticosa. In this study, we compared the inhibitory activity of dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and ethanol extracts of 3 wild-grown samples and 1 cultivated sample of S. fruticosa against acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase enzymes (which are associated with pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease) by using the spectrophotometric Ellman method. Antioxidant activities were assessed by determining 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical–scavenging activity, iron-chelating capacity, and ferric-reducing antioxidant power. The dichloromethane extract of the cultivated sample was then subjected to fractionation by using open column chromatography and medium-pressure liquid chromatography to obtain the most active fraction by activity-guided fractionation. All fractions and subfractions were tested in the same manner, and inactive subfractions were discarded. The essential oil of the cultivated sample was analyzed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.

Effect of high-fat diet on the various morphological parameters of the ovary

        ,ren Hilal,Topal Fatma,,cel Ferruh,,ler Sabire,Aydar Yü,ksel 대한해부학회 2020 Anatomy & Cell Biology Vol.53 No.1

Increased food consumption rich in fat and carbohydrate and sedentary lifestyle have seriously increased the rates of obesity and obesity-associated diseases in developed countries. Female mice with diet-induced obesity exhibit infertility and thus can serve as a model for human polycystic ovary syndrome. The aim of the present study was to examine how ovary is affected by diet-induced obesity. The effects of high-fat diet (HFD) on ovary morphology in mice fed with HFD were investigated using unbiased stereological methods. The ovary of mice fed with HFD (n=8, C1090-60, Altromine) for 9 weeks, were compared with that of mice fed with standard chow diet (n=8, C1090-10, Altromine). Stereological parameters were obtained in diestrus cycle. The samples were processed through routine and standard paraffin embedding and were serially sectioned in 5-μm thickness then, every 10th section was saved, stained with Crossman’s triple stain for counting and measuring. In all sampled sections mean follicle numbers, diameters, total ovarian volume cortex to medulla ratio (Vv), ovum to cell ratio in secondary follicle were examined in all sampled sections. The present results showed that weight of ovarian and amount of intraperitoneal adipose tissue and the body weight markedly increased in obese mice when compared with control groups. Moreover, follicle numbers (except primordial follicles) and diameters were significantly increased in obese mice. Cortex to medulla ratio (Vv) and ovum to cell ratio in secondary follicle were also considerably different between experimental and the control groups. The present findings indicate that obesity adversely affects overall ovarian morphology.

Association of Neutrophil/Lymphocyte Ratio with Plaque Morphology in Patients with Asymptomatic Intermediate Carotid Artery Stenosis

        İsa Öner Yüksel,Erkan Köklü,,Şakir Arslan,ksel Çağırcı,Eylem Özaydın Göksu,Pınar Koç,Serkan Çay,Filiz Kızılırmak 대한심장학회 2016 Korean Circulation Journal Vol.46 No.5

Background and Objectives: Non-calcified carotid plaques are more unstable than calcified plaques, and they are associated with a higher risk of rupture, thromboembolism, and consequently, stroke. The purpose of the present study is to compare calcified and non-calcified plaques that cause intermediate carotid artery stenosis with respect to neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR). Subjects and Methods: A total number of 139 asymptomatic patients with 50-70% stenosis of the carotid artery were included in this study. Carotid Doppler ultrasound imaging and computed tomography angiography were performed to divide the carotid artery plaques into two groups as calcified and non-calcified. Patients included in the calcified (n=73) and non-calcified (n=66) plaque groups were compared with respect to total neutrophil count, lymphocyte count and NLR. Results: Total lymphocyte count was statistically significantly lower in the non-calcified plaque group compared to the calcified plaque group (total lymphocyte count in non-calcified/calcified plaque groups [103/mm3]: 2.1/2.3, respectively) (p=0.002). NLR was statistically significantly higher in the non-calcified plaque group compared to the calcified plaque group (NLR in non-calcified/calcified plaque groups: 2.6/2.1, respectively) (p<0.001). The cut-off value for NLR was found to be >2.54. Multivariate regression analysis showed that NLR was independently associated with non-calcified carotid artery plaques (odds ratio 5.686, 95% CI 2.498-12.944, p<0.001). Conclusions: NLR is increased in the presence of non-calcified carotid artery plaques that cause asymptomatic intermediate stenosis. Increased NLR can be used as a marker to assess the risk of rupture of non-calcified carotid artery plaques.

Can tumor recurrence be reduced with plasma-kinetic vaporization of the area around the tumor in nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer?

        ksel Yılmaz,Mehmet Cemal Kahya,Fatma Hüsniye Dilek,Osman Köse,Serkan Özcan,Ertan Can,Yiğit Akın,Batuhan Ergani,Ahmet Selçuk Dindar 대한비뇨의학회 2018 Investigative and Clinical Urology Vol.59 No.4

Purpose: To investigate the effect on recurrence of vaporization of the tumor surroundings and suspicious areas with a plasma-kinetic (PK) system after transurethral resection (TUR) of nonmuscle invasive bladder cancer. Materials and Methods: The study included 121 patients with a primary superficial bladder tumor who were randomized as those who underwent TUR with the PK system (Group 1, n=62) and those who underwent TUR with the monopolar system (Group 2, n=59). The vaporization procedure was performed by suppressing the cutting option of the PK system for a period, which would accumulate energy sufficient to make swelling-waves on the mucosa very close to the area of the loop to be vaporized. Results: A total of 121 patients who met the study criteria were included for evaluation. Recurrence was determined in 21 patients in Group 1 (33.87%) and in 29 patients in Group 2 (49.15%) (p=0.088). Recurrence was close to the old resection site in 6 of 21 patients in Group 1, and in 13 patients in Group 2 (p=0.028); the difference was statistically significant. No statistically significant difference was determined between the two groups with respect to age, gender, number of tumor foci, rate or range of additional treatments applied, cigarette smoking rate, repeat TUR rate and rate of tumor en- countered in repeat TUR, T-stage, and tumor grade. Conclusions: The effect of vaporization on recurrence by the PK system may seem similar to the effect of standard TUR, the recurrence- lowering effect surrounding nonmuscle invasive bladder cancers is better.
