        Sciatic nerve leachate of cattle causes neuronal differentiation of PC12 cells via ERK1/2 signaling pathway

        Previous studies have shown that the sciatic nerve has neurotrophic activity, and nerve regeneration, differentiation, and axon outgrowth can be modulated by different sciatic nerve preparations. However, numerous animals may have to be sacrificed to obtain enough sciatic nerves to make a sciatic nerve preparation. Some studies have demonstrated that the role of sciatic nerve preparations in neural differentiation depends on the neurotrophins that Schwann cells secrete, and these factors are highly conserved among different species. To reduce the use of experimental animals, in this study, we made a leachate by using the sciatic nerve of cattle and explored its effect on neuronal differentiation of rat PC12 cells (a useful model for studying neuronal differentiation). Results showed the neurite outgrowth of PC12 cells treated with the cattle sciatic nerve leachate for 3, 6, and 9 days was significantly improved, and the expressions of β3-tubulin and microtubule-associated protein 2 (two neuron-specific proteins) were increased. Moreover, the ERK1/2 signaling pathway was activated after PC12 cells were incubated with cattle sciatic nerve leachate for 9 days. Thus, a sciatic nerve leachate obtained from cattle can effectively induce neuronal differentiation of rat PC12 cells via ERK1/2 signaling pathway.

        A Robust Video Fingerprinting Algorithm Based on Centroid of Spatio-temporal Gradient Orientations

        Video fingerprints generated from global features are usually vulnerable against general geometric transformations. In this paper, a novel video fingerprinting algorithm is proposed, in which a new spatio-temporal gradient is designed to represent the spatial and temporal information for each frame, and a new partition scheme, based on concentric circle and rings, is developed to resist the attacks efficiently. The centroids of spatio-temporal gradient orientations (CSTGO) within the circle and rings are then calculated to generate a robust fingerprint. Our experiments with different attacks have demonstrated that the proposed approach outperforms the state-of-the-art methods in terms of robustness and discrimination.

        Effects of epigallocatechin-3-gallate on bovine oocytes matured in vitro

        Objective: Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is a major ingredient of catechin polyphenols and is considered one of the most promising bioactive compounds in green tea because of its strong antioxidant properties. However, the protective role of EGCG in bovine oocyte in vitro maturation (IVM) has not been investigated. Therefore, we aimed to study the effects of EGCG on IVM of bovine oocytes. Methods: Bovine oocytes were treated with different concentrations of EGCG (0, 25, 50, 100, and $200{\mu}M$), and the nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation, cumulus cell expansion, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, total antioxidant capacity, the early apoptosis and the developmental competence of in vitro fertilized embryos were measured. The mRNA abundances of antioxidant genes (nuclear factor erythriod-2 related factor 2 [NRF2], superoxide dismutase 1 [SOD1], catalase [CAT], and glutathione peroxidase 4 [GPX4]) in matured bovine oocytes were also quantified. Results: Nuclear maturation which is characterized by first polar body extrusion, and cytoplasmic maturation characterized by peripheral and cortical distribution of cortical granules and homogeneous mitochondrial distribution were significantly improved in the $50{\mu}M$ EGCG-treated group compared with the control group. Adding $50{\mu}M$ EGCG to the maturation medium significantly increased the cumulus cell expansion index and upregulated the mRNA levels of cumulus cell expansion-related genes (hyaluronan synthase 2, tumor necrosis factor alpha induced protein 6, pentraxin 3, and prostaglandin 2). Both the intracellular ROS level and the early apoptotic rate of matured oocytes were significantly decreased in the $50{\mu}M$ EGCG group, and the total antioxidant ability was markedly enhanced. Additionally, both the cleavage and blastocyst rates were significantly higher in the $50{\mu}M$ EGCG-treated oocytes after in vitro fertilization than in the control oocytes. The mRNA abundance of NRF2, SOD1, CAT, and GPX4 were significantly increased in the $50{\mu}M$ EGCG-treated oocytes. Conclusion: In conclusion, $50{\mu}M$ EGCG can improve the bovine oocyte maturation, and the protective role of EGCG may be correlated with its antioxidative property.

        A Novel Perceptual Hashing for Color Images Using a Full Quaternion Representation

        Quaternions have been commonly employed in color image processing, but when the existing pure quaternion representation for color images is used in perceptual hashing, it would degrade the robustness performance since it is sensitive to image manipulations. To improve the robustness in color image perceptual hashing, in this paper a full quaternion representation for color images is proposed by introducing the local image luminance variances. Based on this new representation, a novel Full Quaternion Discrete Cosine Transform (FQDCT)-based hashing is proposed, in which the Quaternion Discrete Cosine Transform (QDCT) is applied to the pseudo-randomly selected regions of the novel full quaternion image to construct two feature matrices. A new hash value in binary is generated from these two matrices. Our experimental results have validated the robustness improvement brought by the proposed full quaternion representation and demonstrated that better performance can be achieved in the proposed FQDCT-based hashing than that in other notable quaternion-based hashing schemes in terms of robustness and discriminability.

        Research on Process Parameters for Recycling CF/EP Composites by Thermal Excitation of Oxide Semiconductor

        There has a great economic and environmental significance for recycling high performances carbon fibers fromthe waste carbon fiber reinforced polymers. This paper presented a novel method for recycling carbon fiber (CF)/epoxy resin(EP) composites by thermal excitation oxide semiconductor; the effects of process parameters including the temperature,processing time, concentration and flow of O2 on decomposition rate of resin matrix was analyzed; through some methods ofanalysis and testing such as micro-morphology, monofilament tensile strength, Raman spectra, the effects of processparameters on morphology, mechanical property and surface chemistry of the recycle carbon fibers were investigated; thecomponents of the gas products were investigated by gas chromatography. The research findings provided theoreticalfoundations for estimating the process parameters and understanding the general law of resin matrix decomposition.

        Synthesis and field emission of patterned ZnO nanorods

        a low temperature of 500.C. The patterned ZnO nanorod arrays, a unit area is of. 400 · 100 l m2, are synthesized via vapor phase trans-port method. The surface morphology and composition of the as-synthesized ZnO nanorods are characterized by means of scanningelectron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). The mechanism of formation of ZnO nanorods is alsol m at the current density of 0.1l A/cm2 and a low threshold eld of 6.2 V/l m at the current density of 1 mA/cm2. So this approach musthave a potential application of fabricating micropatterned oxide thin lms used in FE-based at panel displays.

        Synthesis and field emission of novel ZnO nanorod chains

        A new aqueous chemical growth method for generation of ZnO nanorod chains, transformed from ZnO micro dumbbell, has been developed. The novel structure and morphology of the as-synthesized ZnO micro dumbbell and ZnO nanorod chains are characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopies. Field emission characterization shows that the turn-on fields for the ZnO nanorod chains and micro dumbbell are 2.7 and 5.0 V/㎛, respectively. The field enhancement factor β was estimated to be about 2194 for ZnO nanorod chains. The findings imply that ZnO nanorod chains may be suitable for cold-cathode electron source applications.         Patterned zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorods were fabricated on the different patterned silicon nanocrystallite (SiNC) substrates via a simple thermal evaporation method without any catalyst. The as-synthesized products were examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), respectively. The efficient field emission with low turn-on and threshold field, 3.5 V/㎛ and 8.1 V/㎛, was obtained. The experimental results demonstrate that these products could be one of the promising candidates for field emission displays.
