Suspension Footbridge Form-Finding with Laplacian Smoothing Algorithm
Zhuo-ju Huang,Jie-min Ding,Sheng-yi Xiang 한국강구조학회 2020 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.20 No.6
In this paper, Laplacian smoothing, which is an algorithm originally used to smooth polygon meshes in computer graphics (CG), is applied to solve a structural form-fi nding problem with the proof that the result of such algorithm is equivalent to force density method. Such CG algorithm is used on the design of a new-built suspension footbridge in Shaoxing, China and the algorithm works well. Since Laplacian smoothing is a pure geometric algorithm without any mechanical concept, the algorithm shows the inner relationship between force and shape, more structural applicable CG algorithms are expected to be found in the future.
Examining Stock Volatility in the Segmented Chinese Stock Markets: A SWARCH Approach
ZHUO QIAO,WEIWEI QIAO,Wing-Keung Wong 연세대학교 동서문제연구원 2010 Global economic review Vol.39 No.3
This study adopts the SWARCH model to examine the volatile behavior and volatility linkages among the four major segmented Chinese stock indices. We find strong evidence of a regime shift in the volatility of the four markets, and the SWARCH model appears to outperform standard generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (GARCH) family models. The evidence suggests that, compared with the A-share markets, B-share markets stay in a high-volatility state longer and are more volatile and shift more frequently between high- and low-volatility states. In addition, the relative magnitude of the high-volatility compared with that of the low-volatility state in the B-share markets is much greater than the case in the two A-share markets. B-share markets are found to be more sensitive to international shocks, while A-share markets seem immune to international spillovers of volatility. Finally, analyses of the volatility spillover effect among the four stock markets indicate that the A-share markets play a dominant role in volatility in Chinese stock markets.
How High School Mathematics Teachers Use New Textbook : A Case Study from China
( Zhuo Li ),( Jiansheng Bao ) 한국수학교육학회 2023 수학교육연구 Vol.26 No.4
In this paper, we propose a theoretical framework for Chinese high school mathematics teachers use new textbooks based on the work of Remillard (1999) and Chau (2014). Based on this framework, a multiple case approach was used to investigate how two high school mathematics teachers from Shanghai use new textbooks. The results suggest that in the curriculum mapping arena, both the novice teacher and the expert teacher often planned to appropriate the unit content, and sometimes planned to add supplemental content. When organizing the unit content, novice teacher always planned to follow the new textbook in sequence, while expert teacher often would follow the new textbook in sequence, but sometimes planned to rearrange the unit content. In the design arena, both the novice teacher and the expert teacher tended to appropriate the introduced tasks and definitions. The novice teacher often planned to appropriate the example problems and exercise problems, while the expert teacher often intended to flexibly use the example problems and exercise problems. In the construction arena, the novice teacher seldom adjusted the planned tasks; in contrast, the expert teacher adjusted the planned tasks more frequently. In the reflection arena, the novice teacher often thought she should improve the mathematics tasks, while the expert teacher almost always thought he needed to improve the mathematics tasks. The framework shown in this paper provides a tool to investigate how mathematics teachers use textbooks.
Structure-Preserving Mesh Simplification
( Zhuo Chen ),( Xiaobin Zheng ),( Tao Guan ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2020 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.14 No.11
Mesh model generated from 3D reconstruction usually comes with lots of noise, which challenges the performance and robustness of mesh simplification approaches. To overcome this problem, we present a novel method for mesh simplification which could preserve structure and improve the accuracy. Our algorithm considers both the planar structures and linear features. In the preprocessing step, it automatically detects a set of planar structures through an iterative diffusion approach based on Region Seed Growing algorithm; then robust linear features of the mesh model are extracted by exploiting image information and planar structures jointly; finally we simplify the mesh model with plane constraint QEM and linear feature preserving strategies. The proposed method can overcome the known problem that current simplification methods usually degrade the structural characteristics, especially when the decimation is extreme. Our experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method, compared to other simplification algorithms, can effectively improve the quality of mesh and yield an increased robustness on noisy input mesh.
Water temperature and salinity tolerance of embryos and spat of the mussel, Musculista senhousia
Zhuo Liang Liang,김영훈,임상민,강경호,Zhi-Fang Zhang 한국패류학회 2009 The Korean Journal of Malacology Vol.25 No.3
The effects of water temperature and salinity on embryonic development and spat survival of mussel Musculista senhousia were investigated. Embryos were incubated in water ranging from 0 to 35℃ and with salinity from 5‰ to 40‰. Mussel spat were tested in water from 0 to 40℃ and with salinity from 0‰ to 100‰. The optimal conditions for mussel embryos were 20-25℃ and salinity from 25‰ to 35‰, based on Within this temperature range, higher temperatures correponded to a shorter duration of the embryonic period. Optimisation of mussel spat survival was at 25-35℃ and salinity from 30‰ to 40‰; both values are higher than those for embryo, which hinted M. senhousia embryos are more vulnerable than spat. Temperatures below 15℃ were lethal for embryos, making temperature a feasible method with which to control the large population of M. senhousia in ark-shell farm during its spawning period.
Effects of aspect ratio on laboratory simulation of tornado-like vortices
Zhuo Tang,Delong Zuo,Darryl James,Yuzuru Eguchi,Yasuo Hattori 한국풍공학회 2018 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.27 No.2
Experiments were conducted in a large-scale Ward-type tornado simulator to study tornado-like vortices. Both flow velocities and the pressures at the surface beneath the vortices were measured. An interpretation of these measurements enabled an assessment of the mean flow field as well as the mean and fluctuating characteristics of the surface pressure deficit, which is a manifestation of the flow fluctuation aloft. An emphasis was placed on the effect of the aspect ratio of the tornado simulator on the characteristics of the simulated flow and the corresponding surface pressure deficit, especially the evolution of these characteristics due to the transition of the flow from a single-celled vortex to a two-celled vortex with increasing swirl ratio.

The SINEs are short interspersed repetitive elements that propagate in eukaryotic genomes via transcription followed by reverse transcription. Recent genomic surveys have demonstrated that SINEs are active in shaping the architecture of genomes and therefore are powerful markers for studies of phylogeny and population biology. In the present study, a new protocol was developed to apply nonradioactive digoxigeninlabeling system into isolation of SINEs rapidly, safely, and efficiently. The application of this approach is illustrated with discovery of thirteen informative SINEs and a novel member of the t‐SINE family in the Omura’s whale (Balaenoptera omurai) and sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), which is the first record of t‐SINE in cetacean. Analysis of subfamilyspecific genetic variability and insertions/deletions strongly suggested the existence of some novel CHR‐2 SINE subfamilies in the cetacean genomes.
Antidumping case in the China's textile industry: A model building approach
Zhuo, Jun,Park, Yong H. Kyung Hee University Management Research Institute 2019 Asia pacific journal of business review Vol.3 No.2
Anti-dumping instruments among trading partners have been the subject of research by both academicians and practitioners. This study attempts to establish an early-warning model of anti-dumping against Chinese textile exporting companies, which have suffered from anti-dumping regulations and got arbitration awards. After reviewing theories of anti-dumping arbitration, early-warning and relationship marketing, the measuring items and relationship marketing model of Chinese textiles exporters are investigated. Empirical methods are selected based on early-warning theories of companies. Eighty percent of 156 valid questionnaires by surveys and interviews are used as training data via Binary-Logistic regression while the other twenty percent are validated in the model. As a result, a proper early-warning model has been established.
