Lactobacillus casei Zhang Prevents Jejunal Epithelial Damage to Early-Weaned Piglets Induced by Escherichia coli K88 via Regulation of Intestinal Mucosal Integrity, Tight Junction Proteins and Immune Factor Expression

( Yuying Wang ),( Xue Yan ),( Weiwei Zhang ),( Yuanyuan Liu ),( Deping Han ),( Kedao Teng ),( Yunfei Ma ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2019 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.29 No.6

Farm animals such as piglets are often affected by environmental stress, which can disturb the gut ecosystem. Antibiotics were commonly used to prevent diarrhea in weaned piglets, but this was banned by the European Union due to the development of antibiotic resistance. However, the use of probiotics instead of antibiotics may reduce the risk posed by pathogenic microorganisms and reduce the incidence of gastrointestinal diseases. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the effects of Lactobacillus casei Zhang on the mechanical barrier and immune function of early-weaned piglets infected using Escherichia coli K88 based on histomorphology and immunology. Fourteen-day-old weaned piglets were divided into a control group and experimental groups that were fed L. casei Zhang and infected with E. coli K88 with or without prefeeding and/or postfeeding of L. casei Zhang. The L. casei Zhang dose used was 107 CFU/g diet. Jejunum segments were obtained before histological, immunohistochemical, and western blot analyses were performed. In addition, the relative mRNA expression of toll receptors and cytokines was measured. Piglets fed L. casei Zhang showed significantly increased jejunum villus height, villus height-crypt depth ratio, muscle thickness, and expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen and tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin. The use of L. casei Zhang effectively reduced intestinal inflammation after infection. We found that L. casei Zhang feeding prevented the jejunum damage induced by E. coli K88, suggesting that it may be a potential alternative to antibiotics for preventing diarrhea in early-weaned piglets.

The Inhibitory Effect of Ginseng Pectin on L-929 Cell Migration

        Yuying Fan,Hairong Cheng,Dan Liu,Xu Zhang,Bo Wang,Lin Sun,Guihua Tai,Yifa Zhou 대한약학회 2010 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.33 No.5

We tested the effects of ginseng pectin prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis of ginseng polysaccharides on cell migration. Ginseng pectin impaired the migration of L-929 cells and reduced their migration speed by up to 50% of control in the presence or absence of serum, suggesting it worked on both serum-dependent and serum-independent migration pathways. Ginseng pectin impaired cell migration via decreased cell spreading. These findings represent a significant contribution towards understanding the bioactivities of ginseng polysaccharides and applying them to health food and medicine.

The effective mechanism of the polysaccharides from Panax ginseng on chronic fatigue syndrome

        Wang, Jia,Sun, Chengxin,Zheng, Yan,Pan, Hongling,Zhou, Yifa,Fan, Yuying 대한약학회 2014 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.37 No.4

Ginseng acidic polysaccharide WGPA isolated from the root of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer was fractionated into WGPA-A and WGPA-N by anion-exchange chromatography. The antifatigue activity of ginseng acidic polysaccharide WGPA has been reported in our previous research. This present study was designed to identify its active component and elucidate the mechanism for preventing chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). WGPA, WGPA-A and WGPA-N were orally administered to mice once daily for 15 days. The effects of these compounds on physiological biomarkers of oxidative stress and on the morphology of the mitochondria in striated skeletal muscle were assessed. The results of forced swimming test-induced indicated that WGPA and WGPA-A could lengthen the swimming time, while WGPA-N could not. In addition, malondialdehyde and lactate dehydrogenase levels in serum were enhanced; while those of superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase were lowered. Interestingly, the structural degeneration of mitochondria were all ameliorated. These findings suggested that WGPA-A is the active component of WGPA, it might have potential therapeutic effects for CFS and the oxidative stress might be involved in the pathogenesis. Our results also provided essential data for a better understanding of the antifatigue effects of P. ginseng extracts.

A Novel Approach of Feature Extraction for Analog Circuit Fault Diagnosis Based on WPD-LLE-CSA

Wang, Yuehai,Ma, Yuying,Cui, Shiming,Yan, Yongzheng The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2018 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.13 No.6

The rapid development of large-scale integrated circuits has brought great challenges to the circuit testing and diagnosis, and due to the lack of exact fault models, inaccurate analog components tolerance, and some nonlinear factors, the analog circuit fault diagnosis is still regarded as an extremely difficult problem. To cope with the problem that it's difficult to extract fault features effectively from masses of original data of the nonlinear continuous analog circuit output signal, a novel approach of feature extraction and dimension reduction for analog circuit fault diagnosis based on wavelet packet decomposition, local linear embedding algorithm, and clone selection algorithm (WPD-LLE-CSA) is proposed. The proposed method can identify faulty components in complicated analog circuits with a high accuracy above 99%. Compared with the existing feature extraction methods, the proposed method can significantly reduce the quantity of features with less time spent under the premise of maintaining a high level of diagnosing rate, and also the ratio of dimensionality reduction was discussed. Several groups of experiments are conducted to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Nanostructures and nanomechanical properties of ion-irradiated HOPG

        Zhou Yuying,Wang Ying,Lei Qiantao,Huang Qing,Zhang Wei,Yan Long 한국탄소학회 2021 Carbon Letters Vol.31 No.4

Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite (HOPG) was half covered using aluminum foil and exposed to irradiation with 70 keV C+ ions at room temperature (~25 ℃). The surface layer (height=178.3±4.7 nm) of the irradiated area was destroyed, many nano-sized dendritic protrusions were observed and smooth inner layer was exposed. The peak area ratio (ID/IG) in Raman spectra increased after ion irradiation, indicating that a change in atomic structure and transformation from the sp2 to sp3 phase. The mechanical properties were explored using atomic force microscopy in peakforce mode, which revealed that the Young’s modulus of the exposed inner layer was similar to unirradiated area, while the Young’s modulus of the dendritic protrusions was higher. Thermo-optic Characteristics of Micro-structured Optical Fiber Infiltrated with Mixture Liquids

        Ran Wang,Yuye Wang,Yinping Miao,Ying Lu,Nannan Luan,Congjing Hao,Liangcheng Duan,Cai Yuan,Jianquan Yao 한국광학회 2013 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.17 No.3

We present both theoretically and experimentally the thermo-optic characteristics of micro-structured optical fiber (MOF) filled with mixed liquid. The performance of MOF depends on the efficient interaction between the fundamental mode of the transmitted light wave and the tunable thermo-optic materials in the cladding. The numerical simulation indicates that the confinement loss of MOF presents higher temperature dependence with higher air-filling ratios d/Λ, longer incident wavelength and fewer air holes in the cladding. For the 4cm liquid-filled grapefruit MOF, we demonstrate from experiments that different proportions of solutions lead to tunable temperature sensitive ranges. The insertion loss and the extinction ratio are 3~4 dB and approximate 20 dB, respectively. The proposed liquid-filling MOF will be developed as thermo-optic sensor, attenuator or optical switch with the advantages of simple structure, compact configuration and easy fabrication.

Morphological and ultrastructural characterization of the alimentary canal in larvae of Streltzoviella insularis (Staudinger) (Lepidoptera: Cossidae)

        Xiuji Wang,Hao LU,Yuying SHAO,Shixiang ZONG 한국곤충학회 2018 Entomological Research Vol.48 No.4

Streltzoviella insularis (Staudinger) is an important tree‐boring pest, that primarily damages Sophora japonica (Linnaeus) and Ginkgo biloba (Linnaeus), as well as other common species, at great economic cost to the urban landscape construction industry in China. In the present study, the alimentary canal morphology of S. insularis was observed using light microscopy, and its ultrastructure was investigated by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The foregut of S. insularis can be divided into the pharynx, esophagus, crop, proventriculus, and cardiac valve. The well‐developed crop forms the longest section of the foregut. It is able to store large amounts of food and is lined with a monolayer of epithelial cells. Many sclerotized microspines occur on the surface of the anterior intima and there are dense spines on the posterior intima of the proventriculus. Epithelial cells of the midgut include columnar cells, goblet cells, and regenerative cells, but endocrine cells are absent. The hindgut consists of the pyloric valve, ileum, and rectum. There is no clear distinction between the ileum and colon. The intima surface of the pyloric valve carries many microspines, whereas the intestinal wall of the rectum is thin with well‐developed rectal pads. The rectal epithelial cells form a squamous monolayer. A cryptonephric excretory system is located in the hindgut. There are six spiral Malpighian tubules, in which a cellular layer on a basement membrane encloses a lumen. These results will provide the basis for further studies of the structure and function in S. insularis larvae.
