        First-principles analysis of the absorption and luminescence properties of Cr2+-doped ZnSe crystal

        The electronic band structure, absorption and luminescence properties of Cr2+-doped ZnSe crystal have been investigated by first-principles calculations on the basis of density functional theory. Firstprinciples calculations were carried out using the Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP). It is shown that isolated impurity bands that mainly made up of Cr(d) orbitals are created in the band gap with the doping of Cr2+ ions. The Cr(d) orbitals are split into e and t2 groups because of the potential of the crystal. Theoretical absorption and luminescence spectra are calculated and compared with experimental data. An appropriate explanation of the experimental spectra is presented.

        Study of upfront surgery versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery for patients with stage IIIC and IV ovarian cancer, SGOG SUNNY (SOC-2) trial concept

        Background: Two randomized phase III trials (EORTC55971 and CHORUS) showed similarprogression-free and overall survival in primary or interval debulking surgery in ovariancancer, however both studies had limitations with lower rate of complete resection and lack ofsurgical qualifications for participating centers. There is no consensus on whether neoadjuvantchemotherapy followed by interval debulking surgery (NACT-IDS) could be a preferred approachin the management of advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) in the clinical practice. Methods: The Asian SUNNY study is an open-label, multicenter, randomized controlled,phase III trial to compare the effect of primary debulking surgery (PDS) to NACT-IDS instages IIIC and IV EOC, fallopian tube cancer (FTC) or primary peritoneal carcinoma (PPC). The hypothesis is that PDS enhances the survivorship when compared with NACT-IDS inadvanced ovarian cancer. The primary objective is to clarify the role of PDS and NACT-IDS inthe treatment of advanced ovarian cancer. Surgical quality assures include at least 50% of nogross residual (NGR) in PDS group in all centers and participating centers should be nationalcancer centers or designed ovarian cancer section or those with the experience participatingsurgical trials of ovarian cancer. Any participating center should be monitored evaluatingthe proportions of NGR by a training set. The aim of the surgery in both arms is maximalcytoreduction. Tumor burden of the disease is evaluated by diagnostic laparoscopy orpositron emission tomography/computed tomography scan. Patients assigned to PDS groupwill undergo upfront maximal cytoreductive surgery within 3 weeks after biopsy, followed by6 cycles of standard adjuvant chemotherapy. Patients assigned to NACT group will undergo 3cycles of NACT-IDS, and subsequently 3 cycles of adjuvant chemotherapy. The maximal timeinterval between IDS and the initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy is 8 weeks. Major inclusioncriteria are pathologic confirmed stage IIIC and IV EOC, FTC or PPC; ECOG performancestatus of 0 to 2; ASA score of 1 to 2. Major exclusion criteria are non-epithelial tumors as wellas borderline tumors; low-grade carcinoma; mucinous ovarian cancer. The sample size is 456subjects. Primary endpoint is overall survival.         Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate induced oxidative damage involving FasL-associated apoptotic pathway in mouse spermatogenic GC-2spd cells

        Di-2-ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) which belongs to phthalatic-acid esters, is a kind of harmful, global environmental pollutants. It is a known endocrine disrupting chemical and male reproductive toxicant. However, the mechanism by which DEHP exposure result in male reproductive toxicity is still unclear. To elucidate the productive toxicity mechanism of DEHP, we attemptted to investigate oxidative stress, apoptotic effects, mRNA and protein expression of apoptosis-associated genes including FasL, caspase-3, and caspase-8 in GC-2spd (mouse spermatogenic cells). The results showed that, with the increase of DEHP concentration, cell apoptosis rate increased; the activities of relation index of oxidative stress such as malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutatione peroxidase (GSH-PX) changed significantly; the mRNA and protein expression levels of FasL, caspase-3, -8, altered obviously. These results suggested that DEHP could induce apoptosis of GC-2spd cells through oxidative stress and FasL-dependent pathway.

        Research on the Multi-Objective Optimization Design of Connecting Claw Jig

        The connection claw jig is a common point support device for glass curtain wall, which meets the requirements of high permeability of glass curtain wall. It is widely used in the structural form of point support glass curtain wall with large grid and large plate. With the continuous development of curtain wall technology, the requirements for the mechanical properties of the connecting claw jig are becoming higher and higher. It is diffi cult to ensure the best mechanical properties of the product under the traditional design methods. In order to study the optimal structure design method of the claw, based on the multi-objective optimization theory, this paper takes the quality, the maximum equivalent stress, the minimum safety factor and the maximum deformation of the claw as the optimization objectives, carries out the structural optimization design of the claw, analyzes the sensitivity of the main structural parameters of the claw, and studies the infl uence of the design variables within the optimization interval on the maximum equivalent stress the results show that the mechanical properties are improved and the quality of the jig is reduced by 9.6%.

        Polymorphism of Exon 2 of BMP15 Gene and Its Relationship with Litter Size of Two Chinese Goats

        Polymorphisms of BMP15 gene exon 2 and its relationship with prolificacy of goats were detected by PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing methods in Chinese two local goat breeds. The results showed that the product amplified by the primers displayed polymorphisms. Three genotypes (AA, BB and AB) were detected in Funiu white goats, and their frequency was 0.071, 0.715, 0.214, respectively. Two genotypes (AB and BB) were detected in Taihang black goats, and their frequency was 0.342 and 0.658, respectively. Sequencing revealed that four mutations (456T${\rightarrow}$G, 466C${\rightarrow}$G, 510C${\rightarrow}$T, 511T${\rightarrow}$C) occurred in genotype BB of Funiu white goat, which resulted in amino acid substitution of V155G and S171P. No mutation was detected in Taihang black goat. The Funiu white goat with genotype BB had 0.91 or 0.82 kids, more than those with AB or AA, respectively. The difference of the least squares means for litter size between BB and AB was not significant (p>0.05) in Taihang black goat. It is concluded that the BMP15 gene may be a major gene which affects the prolificacy in Funiu white goats. This study could provide basic molecular data on the reproductive characteristics of local breeds of Henan province in China, and a scientific basis for the conservation and utilization of those two goat breeds.

        Enalapril maleate as a green accelerator for zinc phosphating coating on low-carbon steel

        In this study, enalapril maleate (EM), a green ingredient of an antihypertensive drug, was selected as anaccelerator for phosphate coating promoting on low-carbon steel. The scanning electron microscope(SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), 3D morphologies, coating weight, coating thickness and free acidity(FA) as well as total acidity (TA) were characterized to analyze the coating performance. Copper sulfatetitration, potentiodynamic polarization (PDP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) wereperformed to evaluate corrosion resistance of phosphate coatings. The DFT computations were appliedto explore the phosphating promoting mechanism. The results show that the EM optimal concentrationis 1.6 g/L which lowers the operating temperature (form 80 ℃ to 40 ℃), generates the smoothest (Ra = 2. 85 lm), the heaviest (28.35 g/cm2) and the thinnest (21.6 lm) coating, and reduces the corrosion ratefrom 1.099 mpy of blank to 0.0246 mpy. The density functional theory (DFT) results confirm that EMadsorbs on low-carbon steel by electrophilic sites (N10) as well as nucleophilic sites (C10), forms nucleatedparticles preferentially and accelerates the growth of crystals. Therefore, EM is a green organic compoundwith high phosphating promotion efficiency which has potential application prospects inindustrial phosphating.

        GM-CSF augmented the photothermal immunotherapeutic outcome of self-driving gold nanoparticles against colorectal cancer

        Background Hypoxia is a frequent characteristic observed in solid tumors and is strongly associated with tumor metastasis, angiogenesis, and drug resistance. While the vasculature of hypoxic tumor tissues poses obstacles to the efficient administration of conventional drugs, it may prove advantageous in sustaining hyperthermia. Photothermal therapy (PTT) offers a promising treatment strategy that utilizes the activation of photosensitizers to produce heat, thus facilitating the selective ablation of tumor tissues. Method To enhance the accumulation of photothermal agents in tumor tissue and improve the effectiveness of PTT, we developed a self-propelled hybrid called Bif@PAu-NPs. This hybrid consists of polydopamine (PDA)-coated gold nanoparticles (Au-NPs) loaded onto the anaerobic Bifidobacterium infantis (Bif ). Results The Bif@PAu-NPs actively aggregated at the tumor site because the ability of Bif can target hypoxic regions, and PAu-NPs achieved precise PTT due to their high photothermal conversion efficiency (η = 67.8%). The tumor tissues were ablated by PTT, resulting in the release of antigens through immunogenic cell death (ICD), which stimulates an immune response. The inclusion of GM-CSF enhanced the immune response by recruiting dendritic cells and initiating long-term anti-tumor immunity. Conclusion The Bif@PAu-NPs hybrid effectively suppressed the growth of both primary tumors and re-challenged tumors. The utilization Bif@PAu-NPs in conjunction with GM-SCF exhibits great potential as a photothermal-immunotherapeutic strategy for precisely treating solid tumors.

      • Folate intake, Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Polymorphisms in Association with the Prognosis of Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Aim: An epidemiological study was conducted based on an esophageal cancer patient's cohort to investigate the association of folate intake and MTHFR C677T polymorphism with the prognosis of esophageal cancer in a Chinese population. Methods: 167 patients aged 37-75 years who had histological confirmed diagnosis of esophageal squamous cell cancer were collected from Jan. 2006 to Jan. 2008. MTHFR genotypes at the C677T site were analyzed by PCR-based RFLP methods, and the folate intake was computed by multiplying the food intake (in grams) and the folate content (per gram) of food in our questionnaire. Results: We found associations between the prognosis of esophageal cancer and smoking status, T and N stages. Individuals carrying the MTHFR 677CT and TT genotypes showed a shorter survival time than with the CC genotype, with adjusted HRs (95% CI) of 1.20 (0.56-2.15) and 2.29 (1.30-4.28), respectively. Similarly, those carrying MTHFR 677T allele had a 1.86-fold risk of death. A higher folate concentration showed a significant decreased risk of death, with an HR (95% CI) of 0.45 (0.18-0.87). Individuals with high folate intake and the MTHFR 677CC genotype showed a significant decreased risk of esophageal cancer (0.43, 0.25-0.89).Conclusion: Our findings supports the hypothesis that high folate intake and active MTHFR C677T polymorphism may exert protective roles in the prognosis of esophageal cancer in the Chinese population.
