        To regulate and exploit the metabolic activities of micorbes in fermentation or waste treatment processes, the change of metabolic patterns due to environmental effects should be investigated and analyzed in terms of the enzymic activities within cells. The present paper proposes the metabolic signal fhow diagram which enables the functional treatment of metabolic maps to estimate the pathways where the metabolic conversion of materials are very active. The proposed method is tested using some experimental data by the author and others.

        Methane production was experimented from heat-treated chicken manure added by extra carbon sources. The results showed that optimum heat treatment temperature and time were 170℃ and 2 h. The treated manure resulted in increase both in the gas production rate and the content. As additive carbon sources, the alkali-treated rice straw gave more gas production than the the natural one or alkali-treated rice husk.

      • 술폰화 폴리스티렌-디비닐벤젠 혼성중합막을 이용한 유기산의 이동 특성에 관한 연구

        Abstract Initial fluxes of organic acids through a sulfonated polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer membrane (K-102, Asahi Kasei) were investigated by varying pH and initial concentration. In case of carboxylic acid such as formic acid and acetic acid, fluxes were higher when pH was lower than pKa and in case of amino acid such as L-alanine, flux was minimum when pH was isoelectic value. Initial fluxes have been found to vary in the range of 10-8-10-6mol/cm2 ㆍ s, depending on the kind of the acids, pH and initial concentrations. The relation between initial fluxes and initial concentrations has been expressed by Michaelis-Menten equation. For L-alanine when pH is 4.5, saturation constant, Km is 1.32 mol/L and maximum initial flux, Vmax is 2.31 mol/cm2 ㆍs

        A synthetic waste water was treated by the biological method in a continuous- stirred-tank reactor under aerobic conditions to study the response of mixed organisms to the change of dilution rate. Glucose was used as the growth-limiting substrate. Five steady states were obtained at various dilution rates. Three unsteady states were also observed by stepwise change of dilution rates. Under this experimental conditions, 1) most of the substrate was removed until the dilution rate was increased up to 0.4 h-¹, 2) the growth yield of cells was maximum at 0.3 h-¹ of dilution rate but the production rate of cells was maximum at 0.4 h-¹of dilution rate. and 3) the mixed organisms adapted themselves well to the stepwise change of dilution rate to establish a new steady state within 14 hours at most.

        Chemicals such as phenol inhibit the microbial metabolism. In this study, the effect of phenol on the methane generation and yield during anaerobic fermentation of organic synthetic wastewater was investigated. Experimental results obtained by changing the phenol concentration showed that the gas yield was decreased as the inhibitor concentration was increased. Methane generation rate was found to be expressed by a Monod-type equation in which a inhition factor was introduced as a function of the phenol concentration.

        The transport characteristics of alkali metal ions, ?? and ??, through a cation exchange membrane was investigated. The membrane used in this experiment was ?? type sulfonated polystyrene-co-divinylbenzene membrane (K-102, Asahi Kasei Co.). The initial flux of the ion was increased with the increase of both ?? ion concentration and temperature. In this experimental range (pH 0.5∼3.0, temperature 15∼60℃), the initial flux of ?? was found to be from ?? to ?? and that of ?? from ??, ??. The membrane was selective for ?? and the flux ratio of ?? to ?? was about 1.10.

      • 고정화 미생물을 이용한 에너지 생산(I): Zymomonas mobilis 에 의한 에탄올 생산

        Batch and continuous ethanol fermentation by Zymomonas mobilis was studied using free and Ca alginate-immobilized cells, respectively. The growth of free cells was affected by higher concentration of ethanol, and a product-inhibited kinetic model was developed as follows; μ=23.05 S/(0.22+S)(86.0+P). The maximum ethanol concentration was 90.7g/L and the yield was 0.482g/g with initial glucose concentration of 200g/L. The continuous fermentation was performed in packed-reactors to investigate the effects of inlet glucose concentration. dilution rate, and bed height on the ethanol productivity. The maximum specific ethanol production rates were 1.63 and 1.06g/g. h with inlet glucose concentration of 100 and 200g/l, respectively. The ethanol yield was around 0.44g/g.

      • 중금속이온이 메탄 발생에 미치는 영향

        The effect of several heavy metal ions on the generation of methane in anaerobic digestion was studied using synthetic wastewater with variable conenctrations of the ions. The experimental results showed that the amount and the yield of methane production as well as the specific growth rate of cells were decreased as the concentration of the ions were increased. The specific growth rate of exponential growth phase was found to be expressed by a modified Monod equation containing an inhivition factor, a junction of the ions. And the lag time increment due to heavy metal ions was also expressed as a function of the concentration.

        전해중합법에 의한 폴리피롤 전극 제조 및 전기화학적 특성

        본 연구에서는 도펀트를 달리하여 정전류법으로 폴리피롤 막을 ITO 전극위에 제조하였다. 4단자법으로 전도도를 측정한 결과, BDS를 도핑물질로 하는 폴리피롤 필름의 전도도가 0.3S/㎝로 가장 우수하였다. BDS를 도펀트로 사용한 폴리피롤 제조 조건으로 BDS 농도, 전류 밀도, 전기량에 대한 영향을 고찰하였다. 또한 양이온 교환 특성을 향상시키기위해 BDS를 도펀트로 사용한 폴리피롤 위에 거대 음이온 PVS를 도펀트로 적층 중합한 복합체 필름을 제조하였으며, 양이온에 대한 교환 특성이 향상되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. In the present study, the polypyrrole films were prepared by constant current method on indium tin oxide electrode with doping materials. From the results of measurements by the four-point probe method, the maximum electrical conductivity of polypyrrole doped with 1, 3-benzenedisulfonic acid(BDS) was 0.3S/㎝. In the case of BDS, the effects of polymerization variable were examined with respect to BDS concentration, current density, and electricity. In order to improve the cation exchange property, the layered polypyrrole composite films were fabricated by electrochemical oxidation of pyrrole in BDS solutions as dopant material followed by electropolymerization in polyvinylsulfonic acid(PVS) solutions. The resulting composite films showed higher redox behaviors for cation transfer than polypyrrole film doped with PVS.

      • 술폰화 폴리스티렌-디비닐벤젠 혼성중합막의 제조와 특성에 관한 연구

        Sulfonated polystyrene-divinylbenzene (PS-DVB) copolymer membranes were prepared using different diluents and varying diluent volume and DVB contents. All membranes were reinforced with Teviron (PVC) cloth. Three different diluents (toluene, cyclohexane, cyclohexanol) were used in the polymerization system. The membranes have been characterized by their swelling ratio, water content, ion-exchange capacity and mechanical strength. The volume as well as kind of diluents, and DVB content influenced these properties. As a result, water content and ion-exchange capacity decreased with increasing DVB concentration. Among diluents, cyclohexanol was the most efficient for building up the highest water content and ion-exchange capacity.
