        Acetalization of glycerol over sulfated UiO-66 under mild condition

        Sulfated metal–organic framework has attracted much attention as a versatile heterogeneous acid for itsstrong acid strength, large surface area and regular pore channels. In this work, sulfated UiO-66 (UiOSO3H-x) was prepared via the direct oxidation of 2-mercaptobenzoic acid substituted UiO-66. The structureand property of the synthesized UiO-SO3H-x were characterized via XRD, FTIR, static water contactangles, XPS, TG-DTA, N2 adsorption–desorption, SEM and TEM in detail. It was found that sulfonic acidgroups dispersed homogenously in the framework of UiO-SO3H-x. And UiO-SO3H-0.2 exhibited excellentperformance and stability for the synthesis of solketal from surplus glycerol among the tested solid acids(H3PW12O40, Amberlyst-45, HY, HBEA, HZSM-5 and ZrHP). The detected conversion of glycerol reached70.3% with a 99.8% selectivity toward solketal at 60 C, and it could maintain its initial activity in fiverecycles. The highest TOF of each acid site in UiO-SO3H-0.2 reached 676.0 h1. Moreover, it was versatilefor the acetalization of glycerol with other ketones/aldehydes.

        Contribution of Urine and Dung Patches from Grazing Sheep to Methane and Carbon Dioxide Fluxes in an Inner Mongolian Desert Grassland

        The effects of sheep urine and dung patches on methane ($CH_4$) and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) fluxes were investigated during the summer-autumn in 2010, to evaluate their contribution to climate change in a desert grassland in Inner Mongolia, China. Results indicate that the cumulative $CH_4$ emissions for dung patches, urine patches and control plots were -0.076, -0.084, and -0.114 g/$m^2$ and these were net $CH_4$ sinks during the measured period. The level of $CH_4$ intake from urine and dung plots decreased 25.7%, and 33.3%, respectively, compared with a control plot. $CO_2$ fluxes differed (p<0.01) in urine plots, with an average of 569.20 mg/$m^2$/h compared with control plots (357.62 mg/$m^2$/h) across all sampling days. Dung patches have cumulative $CO_2$ emissions that were 15.9% higher compared with the control during the 55-d period. Overall, sheep excrement weakened $CH_4$ intake and increased $CO_2$ emissions.

        Synthesis and Gas Adsorption Properties of Carbide-Derived Carbons from Titanium Tin Carbide

        Here we reported the synthesis of nanoporous carbide-derived carbons (CDCs) from a new precursor, titanium tin carbides (Ti2SnC), via chlorination at 400–1100℃. At low chlorination temperature (400–500℃), as-synthesized CDCs mainly consisted of amorphous carbon and chlorides. As the chlorination temperature increased up to 600℃, chlorides disappeared, and the main composition of CDCs was amorphous carbon. At high chlorination temperature, there was a trend of graphitization. The microstructure of CDCs was observed and characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Some graphite-like sheet structures in CDCs were found. Specific surface area (SSA) and pore volume of CDCs increased with chlorination temperature, except an abnormal decrease of the CDC chlorinated at 900℃. CDC chlorinated at 1100℃ had the largest SSA, 1580 m2 /g. In order to apply these materials as novel hydrogen/methane storage media in the area of energy efficient transport, gas adsorption properties of CDCs were measured. For CDC chlorinated at 1100℃, pore volume uptakes are 206 cm3 /g at 60 bar (25℃) for methane, and ~442 cm3 /g at 35 bar (-196℃) for hydrogen, respectively. It was suggested that CDCs from Ti2SnC are promising materials for hydrogen/ methane adsorptive storage.

        Primary Breast Small Cell Carcinoma With Merkel Cell Features: A Case Report and Literature Review

        Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the breast is a rare malignant tumor which, with the features of Merkel cells is even rarer. Herein, we report a case of small cell carcinoma with Merkel cell features in a 52-year-old female. Microscopically, the tumor was characterized by diffuse and consistent small round cells that were de-adherent. The tumor cells had round or oval nuclei with delicate chromatin and small nucleoli, the cytoplasm was sparse and eosinophilic. Additionally, the tumor was accompanied by high-grade ductal carcinoma in situ. Immunohistochemical staining showed that infiltrating tumor cells were positive for neuroendocrine markers, and punctately positive for CK20. The patient underwent modified radical mastectomy, axillary lymph node dissection, and postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. No recurrence or metastasis was observed during follow-up period. Primary breast small cell carcinoma with Merkel cell features is rare and easily misdiagnosed as Merkel cell carcinoma. Early diagnosis and treatment may improve patient prognosis.

        Peroxopolyoxotungsten-based Ionic Hybrid as a Highly Efficient Recyclable Catalyst for Epoxidation of Vegetable oil with H<sub>2</sub>O<sub>2</sub>

        A peroxopolyoxotungsten-based ionic hybrid was synthesized by anion-change of peroxopolyoxometalate (POM) $PW_4O{_{24}}^{3-}$ with dicationic long-chain alkyl imidazolium ionic liquids. The characterization was conducted by FT-IR, TGA, $^1H$-NMR and CHN Elemental analyses. Its catalytic performance was evaluated by the epoxidation of soybean oil with $H_2O_2$ under solvent-free condition, including testing of organic cations influence, catalytic reusability and reaction conditions. The catalyst was proved to be a highly efficient recyclable catalyst for epoxidation of various vegetable oils with $H_2O_2$, showing high $H_2O_2$ utilization efficiency, high catalytic activity, convenient recovery and good reuse ability.

        Preparation of highly dispersed Cu catalysts from hydrotalcite precursor for the dehydrogenation of 1,4-butanediol

        Copper-based catalysts are widely used in methanol synthesis, selective catalytic reduction of NOx,hydrogenation, dehydrogenation and hydrogenolysis reactions. In this work, a series of Cux/Zn3 0.5xMg3 0.5xAl2O9 x catalysts were prepared via the controlled calcination and reduction ofhydrotalcite-like structured CuxZn3 0.5xMg3 0.5xAl2(OH)16CO3 precursors. The formation process of Cu2/Zn2Mg2Al2O7 from Cu2Zn2Mg2Al2(OH)16CO3 was characterized via several techniques. Characterizationsresults indicated that the dispersion of Cu in reduced Cu2/Zn2Mg2Al2O7 reached 79.3%, and it exhibitedexcellent activity for the dehydrogenation of 1,4-butanediol (1,4-BDO) to c-butyrolactone (GBL). Thedetected conversion of 1,4-BDO reached 99.2% with a 99.5% selectivity of GBL at 240 C, 0.1 MPa andLHSV 1 = 0.13 h, and the calculated productivity of GBL was 7.07 g-GBL/g-cat/h. And Cu2/Zn2Mg2Al2O7could maintain its activity within 50 h on stream.

        Robotic Path Planning Based on a Triangular Mesh Map

        Aiming at the problem of robot path planning in complex maps, an algorithm of robot path planning based on a triangular grid graph is proposed. Firstly, a weighted undirected loop graph and a feasible domain of nodes are obtained by discretizing the triangular mesh map. Next, the Dijkstra search algorithm is applied to find the feasible shortest path from an initial to a final configuration. Finally, The Douglas-Peucker algorithm is applied to remove duplicate and redundant nodes in the feasible path, and the waypoint is extracted. The final path is a curve that is obtained by connecting the several extracted waypoint. The proposed algorithm is tested for various maps. Compared with the probabilistic roadmap method, the experimental results show that the proposed method can overcome the shortcomings of the random sampling method. Furthermore, the experimental result of triangular mesh map method used in two labyrinth maps show that the triangular mesh map method can solve the robot path planning problem in complex map very well, and it is an excellent algorithm for robot path planning.

        Label-free Detection of the Transcription Initiation Factor Assembly and Specific Inhibition by Aptamers

        The binding of TATA-binding protein (TBP) to the TATA-box containing promoter region is aided by many other transcriptional factors including TFIIA and TFIIB. The mechanistic insight into the assembly of RNA polymerase II preinitation complex (PIC) has been gained by either directly altering a function of target protein or perturbing molecular interactions using drugs, RNAi, or aptamers. Aptamers have been found particularly useful for studying a role of a subset of PIC on transcription for their ability to inhibit specific molecular interactions. One major hurdle to the wide use of aptamers as specific inhibitors arises from the difficulty with traditional assays to validate and determine specificity, affinity, and binding epitopes for aptamers against targets. Here, using a technique called the bio-layer interferometry (BLI) designed for a label-free, real-time, and multiplexed detection of molecular interactions, we studied the assembly of a subset of PIC, TBP binding to TATA DNA, and two distinct classes of aptamers against TPB in regard to their ability to inhibit TBP binding to TFIIA or TATA DNA. Using BLI, we measured not only equilibrium binding constants ($K_D$), which were overall in close agreement with those obtained by electrophoretic mobility shift assay, but also kinetic constants of binding ($k_{on}$ and $k_{off}$), differentiating aptamers of comparable KDs by their difference in binding kinetics. The assay developed in this study can readily be adopted for high throughput validation of candidate aptamers for specificity, affinity, and epitopes, providing both equilibrium and kinetic information for aptamer interaction with targets.

        Hydrophilic Finishing of PET Fabrics by Applying Chitosan and the Periodate Oxidized β-cyclodextrin for Wash Resistance Improvement

        β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) was oxidized by sodium periodate to yield a mixture of dialdehyde oligosaccharides. Theperiodate-oxidized β-CD (O-β-CD) together with chitosan (CTS) was firstly used to finish poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) fabrics by immersion-padding method, in which O-β-CD acted as a hydrophilic finishing agent plus a cross-linker. Theprocesses including the periodate oxidization of β-CD and the CTS/O-β-CD hydrophilic finishing of PET fabrics were ecofriendly. The results from the hydroxylamine hydrochloride titration showed that the aldehyde content in O-β-CD was3.0 mmol/g. With increasing the CTS/O-β-CD mass ratio, the finished fabric had better hydrophilic properties. When theCTS/O-β-CD mass ratio was 1:1, the moisture regain and water drops wetting time of the finished fabric reached 1.85 % and5.06 s, respectively. They became 1.50 % and 5.70 s, respectively after 25 times of laundering cycle. The occurrence of crosslinkingbetween O-β-CD and CTS was confirmed by the gel test and FT-IR characterization. The cross-linking networkdeposited on the fiber surface brought on excellent wash resistance of the CTS/O-β-CD finished PET fabrics.

        Modification of Wool via Grafting β-cyclodextrin Oxidized by Sodium Periodate

        The modification of wool fabrics is significant in preparation of functional textiles. Sodium periodate oxidized β-cyclodextrin was grafted onto wool fabric through Schiff base reaction to obtain fabric with controlled release property. β-cyclodextrin was oxidized to aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin, and the results show that the inclusion constant and aldehyde contentof aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin are varied with the reaction parameters such as molar ratio of reaction agents and the reactiontemperature. The degree of oxidation was confirmed by ion chromatography. The drug loading test shows that the oxidizedcyclodextrin still had inclusion ability towards phenolphthalein, while the inclusion constant was only 50 % of the original β-CD. The ATR-FTIR spectra proved the occurrence of grafting reaction between the aldehyde groups of aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin and the amino groups on wool fiber. The aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin grafted wool fabric show great washingdurability even after 5 washing cycles. Compared with the aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin power, the inclusion ability of aldehyde-β-cyclodextrin fixed on the wool fiber decreased by 60 %.
