Nonlocal-integro-vibro analysis of vertically aligned monolayered nonuniform FGM nanorods

        Yuan Yuan,Ke Zhao,Yafei Zhao,Keivan Kiani 국제구조공학회 2020 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.37 No.5

Vibration of vertically aligned-monolayered-nonuniform nanorods consist of functionally graded materials with elastic supports has not been investigated yet. To fill this gap, the problem is examined using the elasticity theories of Eringen and Gurtin-Murdoch. The geometrical and mechanical properties of the surface layer and the bulk are allowed to vary arbitrarily across the length. The nonlocal-surface energy-based governing equations are established using differential-type and integro-type formulations, and solved by employing the Galerkin method by exploiting admissible modes approach and element-free Galerkin (EFG). Through various comparison studies, the effectiveness of the EFG in capturing both nonlocal-differential/integro-based frequencies is proved. A constructive parametric study is also conducted, and the roles of nanorods’ diameter, length, stiffness of both inter-rod’s elastic layer and elastic supports, power-law index of both constituent materials and geometry, nonlocal and surface effects on the dominant frequencies are revealed.

      • High Expression of Bcl-2 Protein Predicts Favorable Outcome in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer: Evidence from a Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Zhao, Xian-Da,He, Yu-Yu,Gao, Jun,Zhao, Chen,Zhang, Ling-Lin,Tian, Jing-Yuan,Chen, Hong-Lei Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.20

Background: The prognostic value of Bcl-2 protein expression in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is under debate. We therefore systematically reviewed the evidence for Bcl-2 protein effects on NSCLC survival to elucidate this issue. Materials and Methods: An electronic search in Pubmed and Embase complemented by manual searches in article references were conducted to identify eligible studies to evaluate the association between Bcl-2 protein expression and overall survival (OS) as well as disease free survival (DFS) of NSCLC patients. Combined hazard ratios (HRs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95%CIs) were pooled using the random-effects model. Results: A total of 50 trials (including 52 cohorts) encompassing 7,765 patients were pooled in the meta-analysis regarding Bcl-2 expression and OS of NSCLC patients. High expression of Bcl-2 protein had a favorable impact (HR=0.76, 95%CI=0.67-0.86). In the group of Bcl-2 expression and DFS, 11 studies including 2,634 patients were included. The synthesized result indicated high expression of Bcl-2 protein might predict good DFS (HR=0.85, 95%CI=0.75-0.95). Conclusions: Our present meta-analysis demonstrated favorable prognostic values of Bcl-2 expression in patients with NSCLC. Further prospective trails are welcomed to validate the utility of assessing Bcl-2 in NSCLC patient management.

      • TIAM2 Enhances Non-small Cell Lung Cancer Cell Invasion and Motility

        Zhao, Zheng-Yuan,Han, Chen-Guang,Liu, Jun-Tao,Wang, Chang-Lei,Wang, Yi,Cheng, Li-Ya Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.11

Background: TIAM2, a Rac guanine nucleotide exchange factor, is closely associated with cell adherence and migration. Here, we aimed to investigate the role of TIAM2 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cells. Materials and Methods: A small interference RNA (siRNA) was introduced to silence the expression of TIAM2. Invasion and motility assays were then performed to assess the invasion and motility potential of NSCLC cells. GST-pull down assays were used to detect activation of Rac1. Results: TIAM2 was highly expressed in NSCLC cells. Knockdown of TIAM2 inhibited the invasion and motility, and suppressed activation of Rac1. Further experiments demonstrated that knockdown of TIAM2 could up-regulate the expression of E-cadherin, and down-regulate the expression of MMP-3, Twist and Snail. Conclusions: Our data suggest that TIAM2 can promote invasion and motility of NSCLC cells. Activation of Rac1 and regulation of some EMT/invasion-related genes may be involved in the underlying processes.

      • 8q24 rs4242382 Polymorphism is a Risk Factor for Prostate Cancer among Multi-Ethnic Populations: Evidence from Clinical Detection in China and a Meta-analysis

        Zhao, Cheng-Xiao,Liu, Ming,Xu, Yong,Yang, Kuo,Wei, Dong,Shi, Xiao-Hong,Yang, Fan,Zhang, Yao-Guang,Wang, Xin,Liang, Si-Ying,Zhao, Fan,Zhang, Yu-Rong,Wang, Na-Na,Chen, Xin,Sun, Liang,Zhu, Xiao-Quan,Yuan Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.19

Background: Evidence supporting an association between the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and prostate cancer (PCa) risk has been reported in North American and Europe populations, though data from Asian populations remain limited. We therefore investigated this association by clinical detection in China, and meta-analysis in Asian, Caucasian and African-American populations. Materials and Methods: Blood samples and clinical information were collected from ethnically Chinese men from Northern China with histologically-confirmed PCa (n=335) and from age-matched normal controls (n=347). The 8q24 (rs4242382) gene polymorphism was genotyped by polymerase chain reaction-high-resolution melting analysis. We initially analyzed the associations between the risk allele and PCa and clinical covariates. A meta-analysis was then performed using genotyping data from a total of 1,793 PCa cases and 1,864 controls from our study and previously published studies in American and European populations, to determine the association between PCa and risk genotype. Results: The incidence of the risk allele was higher in PCa cases than controls (0.222 vs 0.140, $P=7.3{\times}10^{-5}$), suggesting that the 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism was associated with PCa risk in Chinese men. The genotypes in subjects were in accordance with a dominant genetic model (ORadj=2.03, 95%CI: 1.42-2.91, $Padj=1.1{\times}10^{-4}$). Presence of the risk allele rs4242382-A at 8q24 was also associated with clinical covariates including age at diagnosis ${\geq}65$ years, prostate specific antigen >10 ng/ml, Gleason score <8, tumor stage and aggressive PCa, compared with the non-risk genotype ($P=4.6{\times}10^{-5}-3.0{\times}10^{-2}$). Meta-analysis confirmed the association between 8q24 rs4242382-A polymorphism and PCa risk (OR=1.62, 95%CI: 1.39-1.88, $P=1.0{\times}10^{-5}$) across Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. Conclusions: The replicated data suggest that the 8q24 rs4242382-A variation might be associated with increased PCa susceptibility in Asian, Caucasian and African American populations. These results imply that this polymorphism may be a useful risk biomarker for PCa in multi-ethnic populations.

Novel fuzzy direct torque control based on constructed functional transformed grey model

Zhao, Wei,Li, Zhizhong,Xu, Jiheng,Zhang, Haitao,Yuan, Yuan The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2021 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.21 No.6

To reduce the ripple of the magnetic flux and torque of motors and the reduce the hysteresis in motor speed control, an improved grey model predictive fuzzy direct torque control (DTC) method based on function transformation is proposed. First, a function transformation is used to transform the sampled sequences to nonnegative values. This overcomes the disadvantages caused by fluctuant and random sampling of the motor torque and stator flux linkage. Second, an equal dimensional new information model is used to keep the dimensions unchanged, which reduces the time to predict the motor parameters through the model. Moreover, the voltage space vector plane is divided into six sectors, which simplifies the fuzzy control system rules. Simulation results show that the proposed fuzzy direct torque control based on the improved grey model method reduces the influence of hysteresis on the control system, decreases the motor flux chain and torque ripple, improves the response speed of the torque and rotational speed, reduces overshoot, achieves good effects in terms of anti-interference capability and dynamic response, and improves the real-time performance and accuracy of the fuzzy control system.

The role of discoid domain receptor 1 on renal tubular epithelial pyroptosis in diabetic nephropathy

        Zhao Weichen,He Chunyuan,Jiang Junjie,Zhao Zongbiao,Yuan Hongzhong,Wang Facai,Shen Bingxiang 대한약리학회 2022 The Korean Journal of Physiology & Pharmacology Vol.26 No.6

Pyroptosis, a form of cell death associated with inflammation, is known to be involved in diabetic nephropathy (DN), and discoid domain receptor 1 (DDR1), an inflammatory regulatory protein, is reported to be associated with diabetes. However, the mechanism underlying DDR1 regulation and pyroptosis in DN remains unknown. We aimed to investigate the effect of DDR1 on renal tubular epithelial cell pyroptosis and the mechanism underlying DN. In this study, we used high glucose (HG)-treated HK-2 cells and rats with a single intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin as DN models. Subsequently, the expression of pyroptosis-related proteins (cleaved caspase-1, GSDMD-N, Interleukin-1β [IL-1β], and interleukin-18 [IL-18]), DDR1, phosphorylated NF-κB (p-NF-κB), and NLR family pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasomes were determined through Western blotting. IL-1β and IL-18 levels were determined using ELISA. The rate of pyroptosis was assessed by propidium iodide (PI) staining. The results revealed upregulated expression of pyroptosisrelated proteins and increased concentration of IL-1β and IL-18, accompanied by DDR1, p-NF-κB, and NLRP3 upregulation in DN rat kidney tissues and HG-treated HK-2 cells. Moreover, DDR1 knockdown in the background of HG treatment resulted in inhibited expression of pyroptosis-related proteins and attenuation of IL-1β and IL-18 production and PI-positive cell frequency via the NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway in HK-2 cells. However, NLRP3 overexpression reversed the effect of DDR1 knockdown on pyroptosis. In conclusion, we demonstrated that DDR1 may be associated with pyroptosis, and DDR1 knockdown inhibited HG-induced renal tubular epithelial cell pyroptosis. The NF-κB/NLRP3 pathway is probably involved in the underlying mechanism of these findings.

Enhancing the static behavior of laminated composite plates using a porous layer

Yuan Yuan,Ke Zhao,Kuo Xu 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.72 No.6

The main aim of this paper is enhancing design of traditional laminated composite plates subjected to static loads. In this regard, this paper suggests embedding a lightweight porous layer in the middle of laminated composite as the core layer of the resulted sandwich plate. The static responses of the suggested structures with uniform, symmetric and non-symmetric porosity distributions are compared to optimize their design. Using the first order shear deformation theories, the static governing equations of the suggested laminated composite plates with a porous layer (LCPPL) rested on two-parameter foundation are obtained. A finite element method is also utilized to solve the governing equations of LCPPLs. Effects of laminated composite and porosity characteristics as well as geometry dimension, edges’ boundary conditions and foundation coefficients on the static deflection and stress distribution of the suggested composite plates have been investigated. The results reveal that the use of core between the layers of laminated composites leads to a sharp reduction in the static deflections of LCPPLs. Furthermore, in compare with perfect cores, the use of porous core between the layers of laminated composite plates can offer a considerable reduction in structural weight without a significant difference in their static responses.

A Novel Spectrum Access Strategy with α-Retry Policy in Cognitive Radio Networks: A Queueing-Based Analysis

Yuan Zhao,Shunfu Jin,Wuyi Yue 한국통신학회 2014 Journal of communications and networks Vol.16 No.2

In cognitive radio networks, the packet transmissions ofthe secondary users (SUs) can be interrupted randomly by the primaryusers (PUs). That is to say, the PU packets have preemptivepriority over the SU packets. In order to enhance the quality ofservice (QoS) for the SUs, we propose a spectrum access strategywith an -Retry policy. A buffer is deployed for the SU packets. Aninterrupted SU packet will return to the buffer with probabilityfor later retrial, or leave the system with probability (1 − ). Formathematical analysis, we build a preemptive priority queue andmodel the spectrum access strategy with an -Retry policy as atwo-dimensional discrete-timeMarkov chain (DTMC).We give thetransition probability matrix of the Markov chain and obtain thesteady-state distribution. Accordingly, we derive the formulas forthe blocked rate, the forced dropping rate, the throughput and theaverage delay of the SU packets. With numerical results, we showthe influence of the retrial probability for the strategy proposed inthis paper on different performancemeasures. Finally, based on thetrade-off between different performance measures, we construct acost function and optimize the retrial probabilities with respect todifferent system parameters by employing an iterative algorithm.

      • Experimental Study and Analysis of Insulator Breakdown Characteristics with Short-tail Lightning Impulse

Zhao, Yuan,Li, Yu,Deng, Chun,Yuan, Yi-Chao,He, Jin-Liang,Wang, Xi The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2014 The Journal of International Council on Electrical Vol.4 No.3

The voltage waveform on the insulator by a direct lightning stroke is a short-tail lightning impulse. Experimental study and analysis of insulator breakdown characteristics under short-tail lightning impulses are given in this paper with the contrast of standard lightning impulse. The impacts of crossarm and transmission lines are also considered. The experimental results indicate that the insulator 50% breakdown voltage under short-tail impulse is significantly higher than that of standard wave with both positive and negative polarities, about 25~30%. The 50% breakdown voltage of insulator with negative-polarity short-tail impulse is about 5% higher than with positive-polarity one. The insulator voltage-time characteristics are also given with short-tail and standard lightning impulses.
