        To investigate the prognostic factors for the survival of transplanted kidney in patients with end-stage renal failure, 59 cases of renal transplantation from September 1986 to Feburary 1997 in Chungnam National University Hospital were analyzed retrospectively. The results were as follows: 1)The mean age of recipients was 33.8 years and that of doners was 38.9 years. The male to female ratio of recipients was 2.5:1, and that of donors was 1.03:1 2) Living related donore(LRD) were 79.6% and living non-related donors were 20.3%. The HLA-identical donors(ID) in LRD were 18.7% and HLA-haploidentical donors(HID) were 61.0%. In living non-related donors(LNRD), mean matched HLA-AB antigens were 1.56 and mean matched HLA-DR antigens were 0.56. 3) The average 5-year patient survival fate was 94%, and average 5-year graft survival rate was 70%. The 5-year graft survival fate of HLA-ID was 100%, and those HLA-HID and LNR were 70% and 36% respectively. 4) Total 33 episodes of acute rejection were found in 45.8% of transplanted patients. The number of acute rejection episode did not show significant difference between LRD and LNRD(P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in MLC between two groups(p > 0.05). 5) In comparison between the 18 patients who lost their graft function in 5 years and 17 patients who are maintaining graft function for more than 5 years, MLC was significantly lower in patients with functioning graft than of patients with non-functioning graft (p < 0.05). The number of rejection episode was also lower in patients with functioning graft than that of the patients with non-functioning graft(p < 0.05). However, there were no significant difference in recepient and donor age and history of pre-transplantation donor specific transfusion between two groups. With the results above, we can speculate that adequate donor selection according to good matched HLA typing and low MLC is very important for graft survival in renal transplantation. Prevention and treatment of acute rejection in renal transplantation is also na important factor for graft survival.

        교과과정의 조직은 체계적이고 뜻이 있는 순서로 학생들을 가르치기 위해 지식을 어떻게 조직화할 것인지와, 과목들 사이에서 공통된 내용은 통합시켜 중첩되는 일이 없도록 조정할 필요가 있다. 이에 현재 본 대학 간호과에서 운영되었던 97학년도의 17개 전공과목들의 교과과정의 내용을 비교, 분석하여 중복을 줄이며 순차적 지식의 습득을 도모하는 새로운 통합교과과정의 틀을 개발, 제시함으로써 보다 나은 전문직 간호교육이 이루어지도록 하고자 하였다. Most curricula are considered how to teach the student in systematic and meaningful orders. And it is necessary to coordinate the duplicate contents in major subjects in nursing. So this study was designed to set up a new comprehensive curriculum through comparing and ananlyzing each seventeen major subjects in Nursing Department of Kyung-Bok College. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present the new comprehensive curricula for promoting the efficiency and effectiveness in diploma degree course of nursing education.

      • 간호조직에서의 MBO(Management By Objectives: 목표관리) 적용

        MBO defines a system for making organizational structure work, to bring about vitality and personal involvement in the hierachy by means of statements of what is expected from everyone involved and measurement of what is actually achieved. It stresses ability and achievement rather than personalty. MBO allows the individual nurse to contribute to the common goal of the enterprise while nurse managers focus on the business goals. It promotes high standards, focusing on the job and not on the manager or the worker. The MBO concept implies that evert person or group in a work setting has specific, attainable, and measurable objectives that are in harmony with those of the organization. MBO requires managers and workers to meet to establish specific objectives, develop alternative means of reaching them, and periodically review progress toward those objectives. MBO spells out the results expected of the clinical nursing unit and of the unit in relation to other units. It emphasizes teamwork and team results. MBO is needed for organizational development and vice versa. It allows the organization to be managed against goals and for results. MBO is not panacea for all management problems, but the system works well in managing nurse activities. Nurse managers need to take the lead in using and guiding MBO, because it is the managers themselves who most influence the organizational climate, employee morale, and motivation.

        열공형과 비열공형 피질하 혈관성 치매에서 위험인자의 차이에 관한 비교 연구

        Backgrounds and Objectives: Vascular dementia is a group of dementing disoders arising from various stroke syndrome. Among these. subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is regarded as a relatively distinct clinical entity. However, MRI patterns of SIVD are not homogenous. In some patients, lacunes are dominant, and in others, subcortical white matter changes are. This study was designed to compare risk factor profiles between SIVD with and without multiple lacunes. Methods: We divided 47 subjects (22 males, mean age. 68 years) recruited from VADAPET (Multicenter Trial For Evaluation Of The Changes In the PET Images Of Subcortical Vascular Dementia Patient) study into two groups one with more than 5 lacunes in deep gray matter (lacune group) and the other with 5 or less(non-lacune group) Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of two groups were compared. Results: Nineteen of 47 patients (40%) belonged to the lacune group. The lacune and non-lacune groups d d not differ in the following variables: age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia heart disease, history of stroke or TIA, history of trauma or major surgery, family history of hypertension stroke, or dementia, age at diagnosis of dementia, body mass index, white blood cell count, ESR, CRP, fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol creatinine, proteinuria, glucosuria, and microhematuria. However, male sex, smoking alcohol. hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were possibly associated more with lacune group SIVD than with non-lacune group (p<0 1) Multivariate analyses revealed that smoking, hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of SIVD with multiple lacunes Conclusion: Our study suggests that SIVD with multiple lacunes may be significantly different in smoking habits hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol from SIVD without multiple lacunes.

        First Hydrogelation of Discrete Metal Complexes. Structures and Fluxional Behavior of Cyclopalladium(II) Complexes

        The reaction of (en)Pd(NO3)2 (en = ethylenediamine) with 1,4-bis(dimethyl-4-pyridylsilyl)benzene (L) affords cyclodimer, [(en)Pd(L)]2(NO3)4, whereas the reaction of (tmeda)Pd(NO3)2 (tmeda = N,N,N’,N’-tetramethylethylenediamine) with L gives cyclotrimer, [(tmeda)Pd(L)]3(NO3)6. Both complexes exist as catenane in water. The catenated cyclodimer is rigid whereas the catenated cyclotrimer is dynamic in water. The catenated cyclotrimers afford hydrogel containing 98.5% water below 2 °C . The hydrogel changes to its sol around 38 oC, and to its clear solution at 78 °C . Such a notable difference between [(en)Pd(L)]2(NO3)4 and [(tmeda)Pd(L)]3(NO3)6 might be explained by their different dynamic behavior via ring size effects.

        Study on Characteristic Changes of Contact Lenses According to Interpenetrating Polymer Network Time and Method Using Seaweed Polysaccharide

        본 연구는 하이드로겔 콘택트렌즈에 알지네이트와 카라기난과 같은 해조다당류를 상호침투 고분자 네트워크를 진행하여 interpenetrating polymer network(IPN) 시간에 따른 콘택트렌즈의 특성 변화를 살펴보았다. IPN은 알지네이트와 카라기난을 이용하여 semi-IPN과 full-IPN으로 4주 동안 진행하였다. 콘택트렌즈의 기능은 함수율, 산소투과율, 접촉각, 단백질 흡착, 그리고 항균성 등을 측정하여 평가하였다. IPN 시간이 증가함에 따라 콘택트렌즈의 모든 물리·화학적 성질이 향상되었다. 산소과율과 습윤성은 카라기난보다 알지네이트를 사용했을 때가 더 높았다. 함수율과 산소투과율은 semi-IPN 방법이 full-IPN 방법보다 좋았으며 습윤성은 full-IPN 방법이 더 많이 향상되었다. 해조다당류는 하이드로겔 콘택트렌즈의 기능 향상에 도움이 되며 IPN 시간이 길수록 성능이 더욱 증가함을 확인하였다. We investigated the change in the characteristics of contact lenses according to the interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) time and method when a contact lens was dual-networked with alginate and carrageenan. The IPN was formed for four weeks using semi-IPN and full-IPN. The functions of contact lenses were assessed based on the measurement of water content, oxygen permeability, contact angle, protein adsorption, and antimicrobial. With the increase in IPN time, all physical and chemical properties of contact lenses were improved. The oxygen permeability and wettability were better when using alginate than using carrageenan. The water content and oxygen permeability were better when using the semi-IPN method than using the full-IPN method, whereas wettability was further improved when using the full-IPN method. The result of this study verified that seaweed polysaccharides were helpful in the functional improvement of hydrogel contact lenses, and performance was better in a longer IPN time.

      • Clearly Canadaian: How Canada’s Unique Diversity Education Structure can Represent an Ideal Learning Environment for South Korean Students

        Globalization has made the national borders less significant than in the past. Continuous efforts to enhance diversity education are necessary to prepare for the future. Korea, which has experienced rapid and compressed industrialization, attracts tourists from all over the world and many migrant workers from developing countries. However, it seems that Koreans are not yet prepared to welcome these people due to the low levels of English proficiencyprejudice towards foreigners. Canada is known to have a well-established diversity education system. Korean students who are in need of English education can greatly benefit from Canada’s learning environment. This paper explores issues in Korean and Canadian education in order to explore whether Canada can offer Korean students a suitable venue for study abroad opportunities. Considering Canada’s many advantages, including its multicultural atmosphere, low cost of education, and multilingual educational history, this paper found that Korean students Clearly Canadian: How Canada’s Unique Diversity Education Structure can Represent an Ideal Learning Environment for South Korean Students 81 would greatly benefit from choosing to study abroad in Canada. Canada could also take advantage from accepting Korean students to study overseas by further diversifying their classrooms with Korean students, and boosting its economy through an increase in Korean investment into Canadian education. Therefore, Canada’s efforts to enhance exchange programs are needed. These can be accomplished by lowering costs, improving its transitional programs, and more advertising on Korean websites.
