Objective: In the treatment of patients with schizophrenia, pro re nata (PRN) drugs are commonly prescribed for medical indications such as agitation, acute psychiatric symptoms, insomnia, and anxiety. However, high-quality evidence supporting the use of PRN medications is lacking, and these drugs are administered on the basis of clinical experience and habits. Therefore, the actual use of psychotropic PRN drugs and its influence on the patients’ outcomes need to be investigated. Methods: This study included 205 patients who underwent inpatient treatment for schizophrenia. We investigated the prescription of psychotropic drugs before admission and at discharge, as well as the dosing frequency of PRN drugs during hospitalization. We also examined the influence of psychotropic PRN drug use on hospitalization days, antipsychotic polypharmacy, and readmission rates. Results: Patients who used psychotropic PRN drugs during hospitalization had significantly longer hospitalization days (p = 7.5 × 10−4) and significantly higher rates of antipsychotic polypharmacy (p = 2.4 × 10−4) at discharge than those who did not use psychotropic PRN drugs. Moreover, a higher number of psychotropic PRN drugs used per day was associated with higher readmission rates within 3 months of discharge (p = 4.4 × 10−3). Conclusion: Psychotropic PRN drug use is associated with prolonged hospitalization, antipsychotic polypharmacy, and increased readmission rates in inpatients with schizophrenia. Therefore, psychiatric symptoms should be stabilized with regularly prescribed medications without the extensive use of psychotropic PRN drugs. Moreover, a system for monitoring and reexamining PRN drug use needs to be established.

Auto-transplantation of adipose tissue is commonly used for the treatment of tissue defects in plastic surgery. The survival of the transplanted adipose tissue is not always constant, and one of reasons is the accelerated apoptosis of the implanted preadipocytes. We have recently established highly homogeneous preadipocytes, named ccdPAs. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the regulation of the potency of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on the apoptosis of ccdPAs in vitro. PRP stimulated the proliferation of the preadipocytes in a dose-dependent manner, and the stimulatory activity of 2% PRP was significantly higher than that of 2% FBS or 2% platelet-poor plasma (PPP). The presence of 2% PRP significantly inhibited serum starvation-or TNF-α/cycloheximide-induced apoptosis in comparison to 2% FBS or 2% PPP. DAPK1 and Bcl-2-interacting mediator of cell death (BIM) mRNAs were reduced in the preadipocytes cultured with 2% PRP in comparison to those cultured in 2% FBS. The gene expression levels were significantly higher in cells cultured without serum in comparison to cells cultured with 2% FBS, and the levels in the cells with 2% PRP were reduced to 5-10% of those in the cells without serum. These results indicated that ccdPAs exhibit anti-apoptotic activities, in addition to increased proliferation,when cultured in 2% PRP in comparison to the same concentration of FBS, and that this was accompanied with reduced levels of DAPK1 and BIM mRNA expression in in vitro culture. PRP may improve the outcome of transplantation of adipose tissue by enhancing the anti-apoptotic activities of the implanted preadipocytes.
A Study on Effects of Artificial Structures on Bryophyte Diversity in Urban Greenery

It is important to consider urban parks and greenery not only from the viewpoint of amenity or aesthetics but also from the viewpoint of biodiversity. In this study, we focused on bryophytes (mosses), and analyzed how existence of artificial structures in urban greeney, such as concrete curbs and stone walls, affect species diversity of bryophytes. Kyoto Gyoen in Kyoto City, western Japan, was selected as the study site. In consideration of kinds of substrates on which bryophytes grow, microhabitats of Kyoto Gyoen were divided into ten types including concrete curbs and stone walls. In each type of microhabitats, we selected the area where bryophyte diversity was highest, and established a quadrat for bryophyte flora survey. Our results showed that the number of bryophyte species and growth forms and the value of diversity indices on concrete curbs or stone walls were higher than the averages of those. The bryophyte species were divided into the four groups by TWINSPAN as follows: Group A (epiphyte species), Group B (rocky species), Group C (roadsides, grassland or forest species), and Group D (waterside species). Bryophytes classified into Group B (rocky species) were mainly recorded on concrete curbs or stone walls. It was considered that the existence of artificial structures (concrete curbs and stone walls) provided favorite habitats for the bryophytes classified into Group B (rocky species), which mainly grows on concrete or rocks, and enhanced species diversity of bryophytes in Kyoto Gyoen.
A Proposal of Korean Conjugation System and its Application to Morphological Analysis

This paper presents a new Korean verb conjugation system, which enables an easy treatment of Korean morphological phenomena such as contraction. This makes the size of the dictionary for ending forms to be small. We also introduce a Korean morphological analysis system. Korean morphological analysis system generally analyzes sentences within the segments(a part between spaces). We propose a system that considers the information beyond segmentation.
Evaluation of a Fine-coarse Mechanism

A new positioning system has been developed to realize both the fine motion and the coarse motion independently and/or simultaneously to reduce the positioning time under the limitation of guaranteeing the positioning accuracy. To cope with this problem, the conventional reducer unit driven by AC servomotor is utilized. The fine-coarse motion of the developed mechanism is realized by only mechanical parts consisted of two servomotors and a harmonic drive speed reducer aligned in an axis. The main characteristic is that there are no stroke limitations in the fine and coarse motions with respect to the conventional fine-coarse motion stage by usage of the PZT device. The basic performances of angular positioning are evaluated by the feedback positioning system. The paper reports the fine and coarse positioning performances of the developed system.
