Radical surgical management of perianal giant condyloma acuminatum of Buschke and Löwenstein: long-term results of 11 cases

        Yildiz, Alp,Leventoglu, Sezai,Yildiz, Aybala,Inan, Arda,Mentes, Bedrettin Bulent 대한대장항문학회 2023 Annals of Coloproctolgy Vol.39 No.3

Purpose: Perianal Buschke-Löwenstein tumor (BLT) is characterized by an exophytic cauliflower-like mass surrounding the perianal region. Its tendency to infiltrate the adjacent tissues, its massiveness, and its high recurrence rate cause difficulties in treatment. The aim of this study is to report our strategy with wide local excision and flap reconstruction for BLT.Methods: From November 2002 to June 2019, 11 patients (9 men) with a mean age of 33.45 years (range, 19–54 years) were operated on for BLT. All patients underwent wide local excision and V-Y flap reconstruction, supplemented with other flaps whenever needed. No additional modalities were used. Results: Two patients had a history of anal intercourse while all patients were human immunodeficiency virus-negative. The mean tumor length was 15.54 ± 1.34 cm (range, 10–26 cm). Human papillomavirus 6 was the most common type identified. Partial wound dehiscence developed in 3 patients, while anal stenosis, mucosal ectropion, or local recurrence was not observed during the mean follow-up period of 50.45 ± 1.75 months (range, 10–196 months). Conclusion: In patients with perianal BLT, wide local excision and flap reconstruction result in a high healing rate without significant complications.

Cytoplasmic Effects on Gliadin Composition in Winter Durum Wheat (Triticum durum Desf.)

        Yildiz, Mustafa,Yildiz, Ayse Varol,O¨zgen, Murat 한국유전학회 2003 Genes & Genomics Vol.25 No.3

Four winter durum wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) cvs. 'Cakmak 79', 'Kirmizi 5132', 'S.Bursa 7113' and line '104', and their 12 reciprocal hybrids were assessed to characterize cytoplamic effect on gliadin compositon. The number and the position of gladin bands on a gel were varied according to the cultivar used as a maternal parent. Cytoplasm-originated gliadin bands were only observed in the crosses of 'Cakmak 79' x 'S.Bursa 7113', 'S.Bursa 7113' x '104', 'Cakmak 79' x '104' and '104' x 'Cakmak 79'. It was observed that male parent affected the composition and the occurrence of gliadin bands originated from cytoplasm of maternal parent.

METALLIC INTERFACES IN HARSH CHEMO-MECHANICAL ENVIRONMENTS

Yildiz, Bilge,Nikiforova, Anna,Yip, Sidney Korean Nuclear Society 2009 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.41 No.1

The use of multi scale modeling concepts and simulation techniques to study the destabilization of an ultrathin layer of oxide interface between a metal substrate and the surrounding environment is considered. Of particular interest are chemo-mechanical behavior of this interface in the context of a molecular-level description of stress corrosion cracking. Motivated by our previous molecular dynamics simulations of unit processes in materials strength and toughness, we examine the challenges of dealing with chemical reactivity on an equal footing with mechanical deformation, (a) understanding electron transfer processes using first-principles methods, (b) modeling cation transport and associated charged defect migration kinetics, and (c) simulation of pit nucleation and intergranular deformation to initiate the breakdown of the oxide interlayer. These problems illustrate a level of multi-scale complexity that would be practically impossible to attack by other means; they also point to a perspective framework that could guide future research in the broad computational science community.

Serum galactomannan levels in the diagnosis of invasive aspergillosis

( Yildiz Okuturlar ),( Fahir Ozkalemkas ),( Beyza Ener ),( Sibel Ocak Serin ),( Esra Kazak ),( Tulay Ozcelik ),( Vildan Ozkocaman ),( Hasan Atilla Ozkan ),( Halis Akalin ),( Meral Gunaldi ),( Ridvan A 대한내과학회 2015 The Korean Journal of Internal Medicine Vol.30 No.6

Background/Aims: In this study, the sensitivity-specificity of galactomannan-enzyme immunoassay (GM-EIA) with a cut-off value of 0.5 for a single, two, or three consecutive positivity in the diagnosis of invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA) in neutropenic patients with hematological malignancy was investigated. Methods: IPA was classified as “proven,” “probable,” or “possible” as described in the guidelines prepared by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer and Mycoses Study Group.” Serum samples were collected from the patients twice a week throughout their hospitalization. A total of 1,385 serum samples, with an average of 8.3 samples per episode, were examined. Results: Based on the 165 febrile episodes in 106 patients, 80 (48.5%) were classified as IPA (4 proven, 11 probable, 65 possible) and 85 (51.5%) as non-IPA. The sensitivity/ specificity was 100%/27.1% for a single proven/probable IPA with the cut of value of GM-EIA ≥ 0.5, 86.7%/71.8% for two consecutive positive results, and 73.3%/85.9% for three consecutive positive results. Conclusions: With the galactomannan levels measured twice a week, consecutive sensitivity decreased and specificity increased. Therefore, an increase may be obtained in sensitivity-specificity by more frequent monitoring of GM-EIA starting from the first day of positivity is detected.

      • Slide Session : OS-END-45 ; Endocrinology : Effect of Business Life on Obesity in Women

( Yildiz Okuturlar ),( Gulseren Gunduz ),( Nilgul Akalin ),( Meral Mert ),( Didem Acarer ),( Ozlem Soyluk ),( Ozlem Harmankaya ),( Abaki Kumbasar ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: The most important factor in the fight against obesity is thought to be change in lifestyle. Business life can effect weight and body fat distribution through its effects on levels of eating, sleeping, exercise and stress. In our study the relation between BMI, body fat distribution, 25-hydroxycholecalciferol (25-OH-D3), homeostasis model assessment (HOMA-R) and A1c levels were evaluated in working and non-working obese patients having a BMI of 30. Methods: Total number of 122 patients (62 of working and 60 of non-working) were enrolled in to the study. Medical history, weight-height-BMI- body fat ratio measurements and A1c- insulin- glucose- cortisol- 25-OH-D3- HOMA-R levels of all patients were recorded. Results: Between the working and non-working groups there were significant differences in average age (35.30±11.96 and 44.51±11.84 respectively, p=0.0001), weight (89.18±11.90 kg and 94.34±13.45 kg respectively, p=0.029), BMI (34.47±4.167 kg/ m2 and 37.39±5.65 kg/m2 respectively, p=0.002), body fat ratio (41.23±5.447% and 43.53±6.077% respectively, p= 0.029) and cortisol level (11.66±4.441 μg/dL and 14.12±5.402 μg/dL, respectively, p=0.029). Unlikely there were no significant differences in insulin, A1c, glucose, 25-OH-D3 and HOMA-R values. There were positive correlations between age and Alc and between BMI and age. Conclusions: Business life may lead to increase in weight and BMI. But in our study weight and BMI was significantly lower in the working group. This finding may be related to certain meal times, sleeping regime and physical activity of the working life which are effective on fat distribution and weight management.

Peroxidase gene markers revealed genetic diversity and population structure in okra germplasm

        Yildiz Mehtap,Furan Mehmet Alp,Koçak Metin,Sadık Gökhan,Kuzğun Cansu,Al-Khafaji Mahdi,Bahjat Noor Maiwan 한국식물생명공학회 2022 Plant biotechnology reports Vol.16 No.2

Okra is a widely grown vegetable crop in various regions of the world and provides significant amounts of vitamins and minerals. Numerous researchers have documented the efficacy of phenotypic and molecular classification of the diverse okra germplasm collections found throughout the world. The genetic variation of Turkish okra germplasm, which included 39 genotypes, was characterized using 14 POGP (peroxidase gene polymorphism) primer pairs in comparison to other world okra genotypes and accessions, which contained 27 genotypes. A total of 84 bands were generated using 14 POGP primer pairs, with 43 (51%) of them being polymorphic between okra accessions. The values of polymorphism information content ranged from 0.03 to 0.99, with an average of 0.48. The range and mean values for gene diversity (h) were 0.03–0.42 and 0.25, respectively. Shannon’s information index (I) varied between 0.07 and 0.62 for each POGP marker, with a mean of 0.40. The most divergent genotypes were found to have a GS value of 0.23, with IN-7 and TR20-3 being the genetically most distant. The STRUCTURE, PCoA and Neighbor-joining analysis separated the okra germplasm into three populations. AMOVA revealed 23 and 77% variance across and within populations, respectively. Although the germplasm of okra is generally homogenous, the influence of shared genes is more significant. For the first time, the genetic composition of okra was determined using peroxidase gene markers.

Physiological Profile of Growing Rats: Effects of Cage Type and Cage Density

        Yildiz, A.,Hayirli, A.,Okumus, Z.,Kaynar, O.,Kisa, F. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.2

This experiment was conducted to examine the effects of cage type (CT) and cage density (CD) on physiological variables in growing rats. Sprague Dawley rats (n=108) weighing an average of 46 g were housed in metallic cage with woodchip bedding (MCWB), metallic cage with wire mesh (MCWM), and plastic shoebox with woodchip bedding (PCWB) separately by sex at normal ($160-cm^2/rat$, ND) and high ($80-cm^2/rat$, HD) CD from 3 to 10 wks of age. All cages were in dimension of $24{\times}40{\times}20$ cm ($W{\times}D{\times}H$). At the end of the experiment, blood samples were collected and 6 rats from each cage were sacrificed. No death was observed among rats at ND, whereas mortality rate at HD was 22.3% for males and 13.9% for females. Heart weight was affected by CT. Doubling CD caused 23, 11.8, 17.9, 8.6, 6.9, and 16.4% decreases in BW and weights of heart, liver, kidney, testis, and ovary, respectively. Except for adrenal gland, other organs for males were heavier than for females. Liver weight of males and females responded differently to CT and CD. Comparing with females, males had 7.3 and 5.2% heavier and 9.9% lighter liver weights in MCWB, MCWM, and PCWB, respectively. As CD doubled, liver weight for males and females decreased by 22.4 and 13.1%, respectively. Mean adrenal gland weight increased by 8.4% and decreased by 9.7% for males and females, respectively, with doubling CD. CT affected glucose, TG, Ca, and ALP levels. However, CD did not alter blood chemistry. Rats housed in metallic cages had greater neutrophil count and neutrophil:lymphocyte ratio than rats housed in plastic cages. Doubling CD caused a 24.2% increase in lymphocyte count. There were CT by CD, CT by sex, and CD by sex interaction effects on lymphocyte count. Doubling CD caused 0.1% decrease and 49.8 and 26.7% increases in lymphocyte count for rats housed in MCWB, MCWM, and PCWB, respectively. Comparing with females, lymphocyte count for males housed in MCWB, MCWM, and PCWB had 8.9 and 12.9% greater and 30.3% less lymphocyte counts, respectively. Lymphocyte count decreased by 4.12% for males, whereas it increased by 61.0% for females as CD doubled. Doubling CD resulted in 2.5 and 2.3% increases in erythrocyte count and hematocrit value. These data suggest that animals perform better in metallic cages than in plastic cages and that cage density had pronounceable effects on physiological parameters in a cage type and sex dependent-manner.
